Exploring Faroe Islands - Vagar

- Faroe Islands is one of the most unique and remote destinations on the world and an amazing place for landscape photography. We visited Faroes for a week in August and in this video series I invite you to join us on our journey across the islands. We start with the island of Vagar. Vagar is where the airport is located and as such is going to be the first taste of Faroes for most people.

Amazing videos! I watched all four of yours on the Faroe Islands. Taking a trip there very soon and this was so helpful! I will be fairly short on time but definitely planning on going to Drangarnir, Gasadalur, and the Kallur Lighthouse for my main goals. Looks like a landscape photographers paradise! I subscribed as well
Thanks, glad the videos have been helpful! Seems like you got your priorities right. Drangarnir and Kallur lighthouse have definitely been among the highlights of my trip. I'd also suggest Trælanípa if you have time - it's an easy hike and definitely very worth it. Enjoy your trip!

Interesting fact: Trælanípa (the clifftop close to the large lake) is called "thralls clifftop/precipice" in English. It's where the early Viking settlers threw their disobidient thralls/slaves off as a means of execution. :P
Yes, I read/heard about that fact, I even tried to find some proof before putting it into my blog, but couldn't. But then again, it does look like a good place to throw someone into the ocean :)
@@SunsetObsession It's common knowledge on the Faroe Islands, but there isn't any written history from the time of the first Viking settlers, so it could just be a legend. :)
The name's origin is also a mystery, but it's believed to have been named by those same settlers, and if so, then it has something to do with thralls/slaves (as it's literally in the name), and most likely because of executions. :p

Absolutely gorgeous...Great video man!! I visited Faroe Islands thsi summer but so pity that I didn't have enough time to climb to Drangarnir. Hope next time I could make it! I wonder whether it is dangerous? Mads Peter Iversen says it's one of the toughest hiking he has ever done. And It seems the way to the top of the mountain Kviviksskoranova is really steep in your video!
Thanks! I hope you can make it next time! Yes, I too have seen Mads video and was a bit intimidated exactly because he said it's so tough. In my experience it isn't really tough, it's just long. The only steep part is that climb in the end, but otherwise it's simply an endurance game. If you're in good health and have good hiking shoes, you should be good! The hike itself isn't dangerous, just the cliffs at the end, but that's pretty much everywhere on Faroes :)

Dear Aleksandrs, great video! I too am going to the Faroes in August.
I will spend 3 days in Vagar and 4 in Torshavn. Since I'm renting a car in the capital, I thought that it wouldn't be necessary to rent one in Vagar, since I will stay at the small harbour in Sorvágur (practically the beginning of the hike to Drangarnir. So, this one day, no need for a car. Also, to go to the lake, I saw there are buses from Sorvagur to Midvagur.
My doubt is to go to Mulafossur. Do you know if there are buses? Also, do you think a car would get much closer to the beginning of a hike, for example, to the lake?

Hey Pavlos, I would definitely not take the car just to go to the lake hike. The hike starts at Midvagur, and the car will only save you a few hundred meters at most, so not worth it. Unfortunately I'm not sure if any buses go to Mulafossur, since we had the car entire time on the island. What you can do I guess is try to hitchhike there, its a popular place, so surely quite a few cars would be going there and hitchhiking is rather common on the Faroes, I myself gave a ride on at least two occasions.
Other than that, have a great trip, I'm sure you'll absolutely love it there!

You can´t walk the last trip by yourself! It´s private property, you need to hire a guide. There is a sign which says, you have to ask to hike there, and hire a guide. You can call the number on the sign, or use hiking.fo to get a guide. Don´t trespass!! Source, am a part owner of the mountain, and a guide.
Hi Magnus, thanks for the info. I have to say I did not see a sign anywhere on the route. If I did, I would definitely state so in the video. There were a couple of places where there's fences along the way, but they have not been signed, so I assumed they're just there to keep the sheep in place.
