    I was interested in trying the Via Ferrata before you even made this video, so I was really excited when I first watched it three years ago. I finally got to try it (and the same course as you). I didn't bring a camera with me (my hands and my mind were too busy anyhow) so it was great to watch your video again. It recaptured so many aspects of my adventure that it was like having a video of my trip without me having to be in it :-). (It's also interesting to see little things that have changed in three years).
    I really appreciate all of your videos. The production is always top notch, and the sense of fun and delight that the two of you bring to every adventure is heart warming. You set an inspiring example, not just in being fit and active, but also in how to embrace and enjoy life.

    Great vid Chris and really love your freelance work. So how are you capturing audio with the GX85? Also you mentioned a while back in another vid that you did a "ton" of roto work for a smoother look, are you still doing that or is this just in-cam stabilizer and some minor post stabilization? Thanks ... sub'd ... done deal ;)

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  8 лет назад +1

      Thank you! I'm actually just using the in-camera mics on the GX85, and this was the first video that I added micro-windjammers to them. In the past, I've done a lot of roto work in After Effects to GoPro footage, refining what tracking points were being used frame by frame on the Epic NYC Run video, and the Fast Skiing & Snowboarding at Tremblant video... though the more recent videos with the GX85 / gimbal are predominantly in-camera / onboard stabilization, with just a touch of post stabilization in FCPX in a few places :)

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  8 лет назад

      Thanks Robert! I filmed this particular video with a GX85, 12-60mm Power OIS lens, and a PilotFly H2 gimbal - it's a fair amount of weight to lug around, but I'm really enjoying the process of dialling in all the settings. I hope to do a gear / workflow video at some point in the future :)

      I'm interested in the gx85/80. How was this exposed? I didn't see one shot that wasn't over exposed. Was it in standard? Was it auto exposed? Thanks

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  8 лет назад

      Thanks for watching! This was filmed with the standard picture profile with no modifications to the in-camera colour settings, in auto white balance / exposure while I was still getting used to the camera. I then bumped the exposures up / down in post, and depending on the shot, pulled the shadows down a little to add some contrast, added some saturation, and removed a slightly yellow'ish tint in FCPX :)

  • @PaisleyT
    @PaisleyT 8 лет назад +1

    Any tips for securing a stabilizer while doing this? I took my DS1 hiking the other day and I couldn't figure out the best way to carry it when I wasn't filming and it doesn't fit well in my bag :/

    • @ChrisProuse
      @ChrisProuse  8 лет назад

      I tend to carry it by the arm that curves upwards behind the camera's LCD screen. Definitely feel ya though... it's tricky to transport around. During this climb, I had a camera quick-plate screwed into the quarter-twenty mount on the bottom of the gimbal's handle, then wrapped a rope around the base, and it was hanging from a carabiner on my climbing harness... which definitely smashed into my leg a few times and left some bruises :)

    • @PaisleyT
      @PaisleyT 8 лет назад +1

      Gotcha. I have a black rapid strap that I could screw into the bottom, but I would worry about it swinging around. It would be nice if future iterations of this tech came with a mechanism to keep all the arms locked in to the most compact form when its not in use. Also it'd be nice if bags/cases were the right shape to hold a gimbal with a camera mounted. Anyway, very nice video - the bruises were worth it!
