GRACIAS SEÑOR SE LO AGRADEZCO MUCHO SUS VIDEOS ME AN SERVIDO MUCHO SOBRE TODO POR QUÉ TENGO UN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 2001 Y TENIA PROBLEMAS CON LA TRANSMISIÓN Y SIGIENDO TODOS SUS PASOS
I've never taken an automatic transmission apart before, but after watching all your 42re videos over and over again I gave it a shot. I just drove my Jeep for the first time in months tonight and it's shifting beautifully! Thank you so much for covering everything in detail, it gave me the confidence to tackle this. I really appreciate it.
I watch this video for months finally rebuild 46re on my own my revers went out .i work on cars so I’m not that scared to get into some . I like he explains everything and he’s not going so fast
Very informative and I appreciate it very much, I’ve taken transmissions apart and put them together by memory years ago before RUclips, but it would have Sure been nice to have RUclips 30 years ago, I only rebuilt what was mine, then in 2015 I went to work for Fryars Transmission in Hot Springs Arkansas where I only worked for 4 months before I had a crippling car accident and it’s been my dream to get setup in my own shop. I’ve always done mechanic work on just about anything, tractors, trucks, cars, diesel trucks I was a shop mechanic for two years in Pensacola working for a trucking company, mainly servicing brakes your joints, such as that and a when I started rebuilding the transmissions at the shop they were taught me how they did it and they were really kind and a good people but I love it so much working on these. It’s more like play to me. It’s no I’ve never work a day in my life in my shop. I finally I got a lift. I got a transmission jack it’s the sun ex half ton air over hydraulic jack. It makes it so easy to put one in. I wouldn’t have any other transmission jack and I’ve got a small milling machine that I’ve set up and that way if I have to resurface any parts or even make some parts I can do that because I’ve also got experience with that I’m a jack of all trades in the master of none, but I would like to master transmissions. Everyone that I have built so far has been a good build, I research as much as I can and take my time while learning each kind. Praying 🙏 God blesses the work of my hands and I can be a blessing to others as well. I’ve rebuilt a 4L60eE for a friend all I asked is money for parts and supplies, a friend of mine just asked me to rebuild this 97 Dodge Dakota 42RE a couple of months ago so we will see how it turns out. Thank you so much for your instructions. 👍🤗
Thank you very much Gary: Thanks to your videos I have dared to do maintenance on my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Rwd. 150,000 miles. Everything came out quite easy and has worked well. If you have time you could make a video updating the valve body with the sonnax products. Thanks again, excellent videos. Chile, SudAmerica.
Hello, Gary, I finally managed to get all the hard parts I needed, the OD direct reaction plate and the thinner OD pressure plate, got it all together and in the Jeep. However I have a 2-3 shift problem and I'm hoping it's the band adjustment. I'm getting a 2-3 flare up and an immediate shift to third. 1-2 is good but then it flares up. 3-4 is good and lockup seems to work. If I start in manual 2 and allow second to run up, come off the pedal and shift to drive, it will go in with a slight RPM flare. So second is working. When I watched this video it's hard to tell what your starting point is as far as preliminary torque on the adjustment bolt but the manual calls for 72 inch lbs (6 ft lbs and although it's only 6 foot pounds it seems very tight) for both bands. I have no problem with reverse or manual 1st, I backed out 4 turns. The Trans Tech sheet calls for backing off the front band 2-1/4 turns (that's from 72 " lbs) and you did 2 1/2 from your point but the Mitchell manual for my actual vehicle calls for 3 turns! Could it be my band is too tight and not releasing soon enough? It looks like you may have gone down much less than I did so your 2 1/2 is backed off more than my 2 1/4 turn. can another 3/4 turn make the difference? Thanks in advance
Hey Gary its your buddy from Boston 05 Explorer still kicken lol. I am getting ready to pull the engine to attempt a timing job 😁! Thank you for the vids i live to watch and learn pleaee keepem coming ill be in touch!!
thanks again for sharing, excellent job! one pet peeve(of course right?) drilling and sanding in the same area of assembling the valve body would be a big no no for myself, metal shavings and disc debris can get picked up on surfaces or on fingers then in small spaces... petty i know just saying 😂 thanks again!
Had this on in the back ground, you said you normally do not disassemble the really big spring in the O.D. section, the plate that the spring sits on is worn in every 518, 42re that I have seen, take the little snap ring off then see if the plate spins freely, if not it needs the plate....
I'm about to (probably) attempt this myself in the near future. I definitely found this helpful but I would like some input on my issue if you don't mind. 97 Dakota, 44RE. When hot, it doesn't want to shift to 3rd. When cold everything works fine. Pulled the pan yesterday and there's flakes in the pan. Not so much shavings but flakes of material. Pan is clean and ready to go back on. I have new filter, solenoids, pressure sensor and governor solenoid. I'm hoping this is the solution, if not I will have to rebuild.
Hi Gary, regarding ZFs, I know you say you send the solenoids to Ericsson's (spelling?) in CT for flow checks and a place in NC for torque converters but I don't remember who it was. On your next ZF maybe you could put contact info for those places.
Eriksson's get the converters too. I don't really flow check the 6 speed solenoids anymore, they came way down in price so i just change them. The 8 speed solenoids i may send out for flow check. Good to hear from you, hope all is well
Now would it be possible to take an overdrive assembly off of one trans to put into a backwoods jeep...I really miss reverse but I'm bottom dollar cheap on this rig
Ask a question. 6PH21x 4W BMW x3 code 4f85 present. I have overhauled gears, shift discs, clutches and o-rings. When taking the car to drive, drive soft normally When the engine is hot, it accelerates around high. Hot like a slippery clutch Gear position lock freezes.

Have u ever had that or is it possible for that snap ring on the spring break and sill runs fine with out a problem for a week or 2 then won’t start almost like it’s a manual but when u start it it’s like it’s in a bind and can turn over enough to crank the Jeep almost like I have a manual trying to crank with out clutch pushed in is that snap rring a possible cause of the engine not starting
Hello Gary I recently rebuilt 42RE transmission after watching your videos I have a problem with it wanting to up-and-down shift a lot until I really step down on it Then it will drive Fine But when it heats up it's still driving but when you stop And try to put it in reverse it It shakes and does not want to go into reverse unless you idle up gas with foot on break Wondering if you could help me with this problem I'm thinking it is a fluid pressure problem Would really appreciate it if you could Give me a hint on what To try to solve my problem
Yes I tried to adjust the cable 2 or 3 time end up putting it back where it was the main problem I am Having Is the jerking when putting It in reverse does not do it when Cold only when it's hot But when you raise the idol even with it hot it will go in smoothly Wondering if the rear band is too loose Don't know if that could cause the problem I have rebuilt a lot of engines and a few manual transmissions but this is the 1st automatic transmission rebuild I figured I'd give it a shot after watching your videos
That is a special grease for transmissions called Transgel, it melts when it gets hot, other grease that may not melt can cause problems if gets stuck in a filter or orffice
I have issue with 44re , shift between 1-2 , transmission can't decide and shaking several before full engaged 2nd gear, TV cable adjusted , front band adjusted two and a half... Other gears working almost perfect. Any ideas? Maybe 1-2 accumulator? Or governor switch - pressure sensor?

hi gary im getting a problem on my 2008 bmw 535xi when i try to drive or reverse sometimes it get back to park and sometimes popout a message in the screen it said transmission position p may not possible, set parking brake when completely stopped, have the system check by the nearest bmw. how do i fix it?
I'm thinking it's my torque converter but it's not making any noise and out of fluid is good but I changed it out with a new filter spring and solenoid and it still doesn't engage thanks.

No codes. Reverse seems to slip and shudder at first but seems solid after that.
