My Dad was a "Cracker jack" trans builder from the 50's thru the 80's, he was analytical just like you! I was always intimidated to delve into building until recently after watching your videos. I'm on my second 46re in a couple months. Second one wasn't quite as scary, lol. So much to remember! I'm 60 years old now, so I guess you Sir did teach an old dog new tricks!!!! Your videos are "Just SUPERB", thank you, J in NM!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make these educational videos and most importantly, for talking slowly and showing every step in detail! Some of us are not native english speakers, so your way of describing the process allows us to understand perfectly and at the same time focus on what you are doing, rather than reading subtitles and not being able to see the process... THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Excellent . Clear, calm, nice pace. I admit I fast forwarded through 12 of the 14 pan bolt removal as can anyone who wants to. This video is great. It can be used if you can't remember which way is up on parts. Thanks so much. Amazing how you can show what you are doing while others merely show a video of their hands,
Outstanding!!! This video is so well thought out; so well conceived. The pacing, lighting, dialogue, process is inspirational. Transmission repair is such an intimidating prospect, I've avoided it all my life. This video got me thinking, maybe I can do this. Thank you TB!!
My front small end band adjuster was jarred off in a wreck. Watch this video and saw what I needed to do. Took me about 3 hrs and saved myself 500 bucks that the local shop wanted to fix it. thanks for this.
This is an excellent video great lighting going slow and most importantly, no background noise, wow this should be the standard for automotive how to videos, i noticed a lot of this trans still shares some parts of the original 727 which i have rebuilt along with the turbo 350 trans looking forward to the next one great job thank you!
Agree! While (yes) "everybody has to eat" ... always wondered why some shops insist dining on top-shelf champagne and caviar (at the Ritz Carlton) every night of the week ;)
Really I rebuilt my 46re using these videos now it is eating itself so much massive peices of clutches in the pan I know it is from first or second gear any suggestions on wht I have messed up
Exccelent teacher, thank you. Eventough I have a question. I have to remove the valve body without removing the transmission from the truck. To release the parking rod, in which gear should I put th selector previous to removal? (P, R, N, D, 2 OR 1) I asume that to change the master kit solenoids I have to reach thar point? or there is another way? Thanks Domingo
Son was given a 93 dakota by neighbor. Last 5 years was only driven back and forth hauling limbs to a burn pile. Son drove it for 2 days, Transmission lost power in neighborhood due about 25mph. the gear shifter moves. however seems stuck in park. the drive shaft doesnt move. Any suggestions?
What do you do when the low reverse roller cage blows up inside the case and wedges the roller bearings? That Is what I have going on right now. They are all wedged and bunched up on one side with another on the other side wedged and holding it all together.
What happens if I installed accumulator piston upside down? I couldn’t get it in so I flipped it over, Is that the reason why don’t have reverse Before I worked on it had reverse
I have a 03 dodge ram 1500 that will not go into park. I removed the linkage from trans and tried putting in park from under the truck and nothing. I have r, n, d, 1, and 2 just in park. Drive it home everying seem fine. Just no park. What could it be?
Hi. Thank you for these videos. I had a 46re rebuilt 10 months ago. Now I’m doing a hemi swap into a 02 durango. The problem I’m coming across is there isn’t a stand-alone tcm. Is there anyway to get a stand-alone tcm or is there anyway around it? Thank you
So what causes a 46re to whurrrrrrrrr.. whine loudely in gear only when moving in 1st-3rd gear.. does it when rolling in neutral as well.. even with engine off when rolling.. and transfercase in neutral. When its in overdrive. Its completetly gone. Park or braked in gear.. gone. Only does it in the first foward 3 gears when rolling.
7:34 "[The case connector is] somewhat fragile ... " HANDLE THE VALVE BODY WITH CARE if you're not replacing the solenoid and harness assembly! Otherwise you may break the mount hole off the connector! (Ask me how I know ... )
I am wanting to rebuild my 46re transmission on my 4wd Dodge Ram 1500 would the procedure be essentially the same with the transfer case removed? And would the kits still work or would I need something extra?
My 2001 durango with the 46re had a spring pop out from somewhere when i was removing the valve body . now when i go to move selector to park it moves freely with no click . i would guess the spring was retained by a ball bearing and the selector but i am not sure . any idea ?
Is there anyone that can tell me the difference between a 10/11T as opposed to the 1 1/12T gears that goes between the stator shaft & pump housing??🤔...is there pump pressure release difference & or can the 10/11T be used??
I was doing some brief searching on dodge forums for my own rebuild; and you can swap the gears out depending on the intention of your rebuild.. the dodge forum is the place to get the definite answer for this question.
My lord , if I took so long to remove the pan My customers would die of old age and I would never get paid !,,,,,rebuilding automatic transmissions 44 years at least use a speed wrench .
This man was nice enough to make these videos so people could learn from them, and i am finding them very valuable, why come on here with that hate crap, if you aren't greatfull, don't be a prick, just move on.
i thought the same thing but then i used common sense and realized this is an instructional video--a good one at that-- sooooo..... you might want to use a little common sense or if you don't have any... FYI ... this is an instructional video and the instructor is taking his time
I know, if you don't know what a bolt is, you probably shouldn't tear into a transmission. He probably doesn't know how to edit, but it is a good instructional video.

I would never rebuild my auto trans, but I really enjoyed living vicariously through this video.
Thanks very much!

This is the bob ross of automotive videos
Underrated comment my good man.
cleanest transmission I've ever seen great educational video
You sir, are a genius. You are an inspiration, as well.
awesome , thanks, your helping alot of people tired of getting the shaft from the transmission repair mafia.

Cheapos
Feel like I just took a class.....OUTSTANDING
Thank you for these videos

I thought the yellow shirt was a mistake to wear until I realized the transmission was steam cleaned and turtle waxed
It's a great video series but things would be totally different tearing down a trans from a 20+ yrld crusty work truck!

Excellent video. Any links to get a 46re transmission that's been rebuilt? Thanks
I have to replace my kickdown lever. How would I remove the pin that holds it in place?

Hi, please, could you let me know what happend if the acumulator fails?
the valve body and hydraulic pressure rise is the most critical part of a transmission, but usually gets the least attention.
excellent presentation
What happens if I installed accumulator piston upside down?
I couldn’t get it in so I flipped it over,
Is that the reason why don’t have reverse
Before I worked on it had reverse
Is this the same way you would rebuild a 42re trans?

Well if i ever need a rest this video will put me to sleep

How many qts of transmission fluid does the a5 18 take that's with the tork converter
Здравствуйте есть ли разница в запчастях и гидромуфте с акпп 46RH
This is like watching grassy paint dry
What a master mechanic.

ok is there a video of just the 4/4 trans and transfair casety
What happens if I tighten my band adjustments to tight to 72 ft lbs and not 72 inch lbs on a 46re transmission
Made same mistake on my 48re. Like you, never found anyone that knew if this damaged anything or not(?)
are the 46re the same as the 46 rh
Incredible! I'm impressed. Also, no "special" tools. Is the 42re the same or close enough?
I am wanting to rebuild my 46re transmission on my 4wd Dodge Ram 1500 would the procedure be essentially the same with the transfer case removed? And would the kits still work or would I need something extra?

Ya i see it in the video . i guess im looking for that ball now lol
Is the 46re for the 5.3 Durango
Hate when that happens! Totally reminds me of this hilarious "Farside" comic from the 80's...!... images.app.goo.gl/QxXmjfz4k3nsLFKK8
is the a518 a727 good transmission
Thanks for sharing
amazing video thank
Do you have a dodge 727 transmission?
How to know what transmission my dodge 2001 2500 5.9 has?
Is there anyone that can tell me the difference between a 10/11T as opposed to the 1 1/12T gears that goes between the stator shaft & pump housing??🤔...is there pump pressure release difference & or can the 10/11T be used??

I love youtube
ok so what do i do when the forward drum won't fall apart out of the forward shell ??
take the 20 ton press and break the forward drum from behind , it ruins the shell to boot .
Force it out, hammer and pry-bar if you have too, another person or a vise might help but seperate it, if it's stuck it will go...
Or install longer bolts on those slide hammer holes and skrew them in until it comes out
