- I opened a 2009 LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader's TIE Fighter set to see how it's aged (and secretly hoping to unbox a RARE Chrome Darth Vader Minifigure)! It's surprisingly good still however not worth the $250 price tag in todays market! Wait for a REMAKE of the LEGO Star Wars Darth Vader's TIE Fighter!

Such a nostalgic set. This was the one that officially got me into LEGO when I got it back in 2009
What a classic! They really don't make em like this anymore.
You’re right, they make them more detailed and accurate now.
But I get the nostalgia. I have both play scale TIE Advanced sets.
@@Linus_Bthere’s 3
Ok grandpa
@@okrainz Oh, right! Forgot about the old blue one.
Yeah the white table and the black shelves background, they really don't make em like this anymore...
Flick fire missiles, sort of blocky shape, and one fig make this a very 2009 set. It’s perfect
Perfect? Lmao. If this came out today, people would be absolutely raging at price per piece and only 1 fig
@@welcometothejungl3 that’s why he said perfect for 2009
I miss 2009.
I miss the old Kanye
What a classic. Still have this set and was the first time I got a Lego Darth Vader.
I can't believe that Lego still hasn't re-released this ship as a standalone set.
It would make for such an easy $60 set.
Don’t give them any ideas. I’d pay $50 max
If a modern darth vader's tie is more than $50 and includes no side builds or special figures that make it worth it, that's just a crime
@@the1andonlyjawa I just imagine that it would cost about the same as the TIE Bomber.
@@villelepoaho4105surely it should be quite a bit less?
Same wings but only one "cockpit" module while the bomber has two
I remember getting this for christmas in 2009. The memories!!
the 2020 tie fighter had a similar connection, plus the older style from those early ties have the added benefit of kids taking the wings off to simulate damaged/destroyed ties
The new tie fighter utilizes a technic pin-technic hole connection instead of a technic pin-back of brick tube connection. Unless you're talking about the sith tie fighter, can't speak on that
@@NintendoConsoleGamer i know it's different, hence why i said it's similar, not the same :)
I displayed this set in my classroom, my students loved it. This is the only TIE ship I have, as I personally believe this is the perfect TIE ship ever made.
Very good review Ryan! I love the 2008 to 2009 sets! I get so much nostalgia watching these reviews!
God the NOSTALGIA!! This was one of the first LEGO sets I ever had in my collection. I received it from my older cousin as a hand-me-down, and I loved playing with it as a kid. Still holds up imo, amazing set!
In 2009 my grandma bought me this for my birthday. She accidentally bought two and I guess she put the other one in storage, but last August when they moved she found it NIB in near flawless condition. Just a funny story and also a reminder of the gold that people who don't know any better may have stuffed in a closet somewhere.
This was my first ever Lego set. The beginning of many memories made building Lego with my dad.
This review must have been saved up for a while, man its weired, yet cool to see a brand new video filmed with the old setup.
I remember when this came out and I found out it existed and was on sale for only $20 at Target on the same day. There was an ad in the Sunday newspaper and I told my mom and dad and asked if they could buy it for me for Christmas. They saw how much I wanted it and I guess still had some Christmas cash, this was a month or two away from Christmas and so we drove to Target and got one before they ran out. The coolest part was that I also got Luke Skywalker's x-wing that Christmas, and later maybe for my birthday or later Christmas got those clone wars sets that were advertised in the instructions for this set.
My dad got me this awhile back and weighed them in the produce section so I could get the one with chrome vader. Rip dad
Nice to still see the old room from time to time
This takes me back 😊 weird to think it’s almost 15 years old…
I remember getting this for my 8th birthday in 2009 after my mom took me to the Lego store. Good times ❤
This was my first ever big Star Wars set. Brings back good memories!
I recently built a MOC of Darth Vader’s Tie, since I missed out on every single set. I love the design of this ship! Thanks for the nostalgic review!
2009 is when I got my first Star Wars Lego set! 😁
I think it was some sort of clone wars set lmao
As a 5 year old, the Darth Vader mini fig was all I needed, I actually got this set back in like 2010 2011
this will always hold a special place in my heart- my aunt and uncle gave me this at their wedding when i was a youngling and i still have it today
This was amazing. I actually own this set and it’s one of my personal favourite Lego sets that I own. It’s so classic and nostalgic and it came with an amazing classic Vader (and still to this day the only Darth Vader figure that I have) and it came with an amazing TIE Advanced for Vader…considering the design itself is 13 years old. As a stand alone Vader’s TIE fighter set…it actually looks great and has stood the test of time; I simple blocky design with one figure that really hits the nostalgia. It’s great that you did a review for this iconic set and it’s awesome that you’re showing it some love. Thanks for an amazing review Ryan and I can’t wait to see what you do next. Keep up the amazing videos.
Wow an old Lego set review, never saw this coming!
I got this for my birthday awhile back, man what a set. I lost the Vader somewhere in my house but he was my flex in daycare, still have the tie built.
I remember this was the first Tie Fighter set I ever built. Now the Tie Advanced is the only Tie ship in the original trilogy I need to get a new one of
Really hoping they come out with a new one soon, it’s such a cool ship
This was my first Lego Star Wars set. Such great memories
1:10 Ryan genuinely sounded really saddened that he didn’t get the chrome Vader lol
Who wouldn't be sad they didn't find a free $400 lmao
He sounds so sad
I love when you review all of the old sets I still have. Nostalgic!
One of my first lego Star Wars sets, I remember getting this and being so excited I actually opened it up on my birthday party in front of my mates and built it. Was so glad I got a lego Darth Vader lol
Imagine if he pulled a sealed chrome vader from a sealed vaders tie
Wait wait I didn’t pay attention that’s the og mandr background!
They should release a Tie Advanced , Tie Defender, and Tie Tank (Crawler) in the coming years to complete the tie collection.
For some reason since 2015 I’ve been trying to collect every tie variant.
I’d LOVE a defender and tank!
@@rustyshackleford234 Absolutely :)
They should make a promo like this for the 20 years of revenge of the sith
I just love those reviews 👌
this is one of the sets i had as a kid and it’s still on my shelf. always seemed like a great set to me
The windshield is so nostalgic... Great review!
You often comment on fragility of things, such as the wings in this set as being a negative, but for me, when I had this set as a kid, it was a killer play feature. I would have battles with it and loved being able to quickly tear a wing off when I would imagine my other set landing a hit. Where as some sets these days are so sturdy, you would have to carefully dissect 10 interlocking pieces to break a chunk free. Don't get me wrong, I dislike fragile sets where small pieces pop off all of the time, but I think that large removable chunks are more of a play feature rather than a problem for kids.
That being said, I love this set for the nostalgia. Thanks for bringing it back for a review!
Thanks for the review Ryan. I agree it's time for new one.
Love the review Ryan, a breath of fresh air with this retro review, I love darth vaders tie fighter
Review filmed in you old room, incredible and nostalgic
I was looking for reviews for this set last week as I’m considering getting one to go with my Gold Leaders Y Wing…perfect timing, set looks great 👍🏻
My first set! Before I even knew what star wars was! “Who’s dark bader?” I remember asking
got that for my birthday when i was like 8... Now its motivated me to buy ties again, such a great set
Got this set used, and I’m happy with my purchase.
Happy to say I got this one for my birthday when it came out and I still have it.
wow this was layers of nostalgia, because as you said, mine fell apart just like that as you said!! all the time
Old Lego Star wars boxes are so beautiful
I still have this set from when i was younger, I remember building it as a kid and it being my favorite set, recently dug it out of storage and now have it on display and it is beautiful, too bad i don’t have the box anymore😕
I recently acquired Moff Gideon's Imperial Cruiser set, I feel as though LEGO has slipped a little bit with some of their designs, while the ship looks really nice, the bridge neck area weakness is evident after just a few attempts to hold it from there. It would require a little handle to pull out similar to the gunship on the back of the bridge neck. I resorted to having to hold the Imperial Cruiser from the underside but it is a heavy ship. I'll probably convert my Imperial Cruiser to a Clone Wars era ship with the parts from the 3 Clone Trooper battle pack.
I swear, for a whole year I thought it included 2 death troopers, and always thought I was missing one.
I finally found out it only includes ONE.
Bought it in 2024 at a local store for $75.00, out of box / used. It was missing a couple easily replaced pieces and had extras. You can easily find parts to make it sturdier. Really good set even now.
Loved this set as a kid. Still have it to this day
I can’t believe I was 7 when this set came out it was one of the most iconic sets for me
the nostalgic bubble in the lightsaber blade lol
I need to get this set again, I got it when I was a kid when it came out. The set has been destroyed for a long time, but I have the vader in a display case. Such a great set
Just bought myself a sealed one! My first "big" star wars lego set as a kid; which I sadly lost all the pieces too. Now I have one that's perfectly sealed!
Personally when I was a kid I used to play with this all the time and because of the shortcomings of the wings attachment I all the time pretended like the wing got shot off, so I think it adds a little bit extra fun play feature that was unintended, something you just don't get nowadays.
This was my first ever Star Wars set when I was 7 or 8, now i am 21 & still collecting :)
I got one of these still bagged but out of the box a couple years ago dirt cheap. Such a fantastic set.
I would rebuild this set over and over as a child. I bought myself a sealed copy recently to keep long-term :)
This was my only star wars lego set until about 2019 when I started collecting again, classic
My first ever Lego set when I was 7. Was fortunate enough to get the chrome Vader. Didn’t realise its rarity until years later. Now 21 and still have it
i remember when my dad got me this & some space police sets for christmas when i was 8. to this day, i would like to get them again. seeing this brings back some really cool memories 😃
Got this set from what was left from my cousins lego collection really need to rebuild it.
I know we are in need of a new Vader's TIE Fighter but I hope to see something outside the OT.
love the videos keep up the amazing work!
This was my very first Lego set I ever got my grandparents got me it for Christmas and it started my Lego collection.
2:18
bombastic side eye
just built this set by buying the bricks from pick a brick, had to get the wing connectors, roof and reproductions of the stickers off the bay of E, but for some reason i had two of the wind-shields in my spare parts cases. once built i made some modifications by swapping out some of the exterior black pieces, added a few more slopes, added some more stuff in the cockpit, added some 2x4 underneath, and added a third peg to each wing connector. there is a lot of dark grey, would have looked better if they swapped out all the dark grey for light grey. just need an interceptor for my OT Tie shelf now.
Nowdays they would give us the same set but 2 times smaller and 4 times more expensive.
Your fan spinning really make it look like the windscreen is glistening 😂
Oldie but a goodie! But it's definitely too rich for me, $200+ is insane for that
Tie advanced x1, a limited quantity prototype advanced tie fighter, with a better target profile and more modern solar panels than a regular tie fighter, more armored, slightly faster, slightly less maneuverable but shielded & had a hyperdrive. Flick fire missiles represent cluster missile launchers it could use to better dogfight (sadly we didn't see it on a big screen). A proper match for rebel x-wings
I actually prefer the classic ties compared to the new ones. Such a classic
Got this from a neighbour recently. Pretty cool. Somehow I now have 2 TIE advanced but 0 normal TIEs.
Big nostalgia buzz - thanks for sharing - wish we’d have a UCS for this vs. a stupid landspeeder soon !
It's nice to be able to store this set by taking off its wings
When I was little, I had this set this one and the droid bomber, both of which I looked in an old toy bin full of Legos and found the mini figures to those sets and I was like well if the mini figures are in here, maybe the sets are. I went through the bin and built both sets. It took me forever to find all the right pieces but they both were in there.
Simply the best version to be honest
Great video Ryan!
Love this set. I have it in my little 2009 collection
This I think was my first lego set. I still have it on display and me and my dad back in the day superglued it because it kept falling apart…I wish we never did but if we didn’t it’d probably never still be around so there’s that.
I would say weigh the sealed box (or box with all contents). There are two different inventories for this set and thus two different instructions depending on which comes. I wonder if sellers weigh the sealed boxes to determine which version and which box has the chrome Vader. If they do - I’m thinking there is even a lower chance of buying a sealed copy with chrome Vader. Just thought about this as you were taking about the set
How long did it take you to realize this was recorded in his old room?
This was my first lego set ever what a throwback oh my god
One of my favourite sets
Omg I had that set as a kid when i came out!
I have this on my shelf next to the new tie bomber, tie interceptor and 2010 tie fighter
Core memory unlocked
Love the video
A classic! One of my very first sets!
I really hope we get a new Vader’s Tie Advanced soon. We desperately need a new one.
Recently rebuilt this one and have it sitting on my shelf, would love a new UCS version of this
Classic classic classiiiiiic... I can't wait for a new awesome version eveeeeeeeeer!🤔😱🤑
We need an adult collectors Darth Vaders Tie Fighter!!
Crazy that this video came out the day I got it sealed 🗣️🦅
I remember getting this set for valentines day as a kid for some reason. first and last time i got anything but candy for that holiday. My vader's helmet never seemed to fit, it would always fall off.
Great one for the box collectors!
