Jessica Curry had never really played a game before until she wrote the music for this game. Instead of thinking videogames are silly, she really tried to understand games as a medium and she put a lot of care, attention and soul into this. The effort is very noticeable and I appreciate her work a lot.

I think from 29:28 Esther's condition is getting worse. From 30:28 the piano music starts to get dramatic. At 31:12, we begin to hear more pure piano music. now at 31:50 you start to hear a new sound and at 32:33 everything is revealed. The music that Esther heard until 32:33 in the form of piano music is actually the sound of the cardiac event monitor. Esther is now on the brink of death and the last sounds she hears in vegetative life belong to this cardiac event monitor. After all, the beginning of nightlife on the island shows that Esther is now brain dead. For those of you who don't know, Esther is on her deathbed from a car accident and her husband is talking to her sadly right next to her bed. This island is actually an imaginary island shaped by what Esther's husband, who is in vegetative life, told her.

All of these are very unique and relaxed. Deus Ex Revolution has an excellent ambient electro track, if you're into that. If you like Metal music, try the new Doom's OST. Just some suggestions.

I actually just recently found a classical composer from the late 1800s who I think has a rather similar sound. The composer is Camille Saint-Saëns. Two of his songs that sound similar to Dear Esther me are "The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Woods" and "Danse Macabre" (to a lesser extent, but still a great piece).

Urban Sprawl The game is beautiful and very thought-producing. It is the equivalent of having a very strange dream, and although it was very scattered and disorganized, you remember it becuase of how it made you feel. The characters are never seen, only described, yet we all relate to them and feel clusters of emotions towards them. We are all Esther; innocently wronged by others. We are all the hermit, scouring our own island for its secret while simultaneously crawling inside our own heads, swimming around in its contents .

I don't think we can be so sure that we play Esther's loved one of any sort; seeing as within about an hour of gameplay we explore the parts of the island visited and painted by whoever came before, hearing the thoughts and possibly diary of her supposed loved one, I like to think the player is but an 'archeologist', discovering the history of the tragedy rather than the person who wrote the diaries. Don't forget that these stretch over several weeks, including the crippling broken femur.

    Dear [REDACTED]
Every night, I dream of that castle. It’s always in the distance, on top of a hill, mountain, island or even the side of a cliff. In the tower, there’s a light. Like a beacon, beckoning me to come closer so I can be caressed by its heavenly glow. It was you, wasn’t it? It’s not just the moon whispering to me.

This gives me so many damn feels. Does anybody know where I can find more music like this?

By buying the game, you actually own the music as well; the songs are just put in their respective directories. Just check your Steam folder and search around in the Dear Esther directory, you'll find them soon enough.

Yeah, like many people stated it was an interactive story, it was too limited to be called a game, but as an environment it worked really well! The story was pretty immersive, I actually had a tear going down my cheek the first time I had the ending.

Postmodern classical / romantic classical is where I'd look. Debussy - Clair de Lune reminds me somewhat of this song.

the cool thing is that the director is planning on a new "stalker-like" title but as always without weapons just with your flashlight. ;D

This music alone urges me to buy the game. The game it self seals the deal.
