I like the water measuring trick. Thank you very much.
+Richard Yap You're welcome Richard. It's always nice to be able to measure out the exact amount of water out in the field so that you can have a meal that's not too runny and not too thick. - Chris
For the map tip, I'd extend the duck tape beyond the bag and punch the hole further over. It reduces the chance of any water going in if there's no hole in the bag itself
A trick I've used to pack clothes into small spaces for your pack or your carry-on. Put some of your clothes in a large ziplock... zip most of the way closed then sit on the bag. Zip the rest of the way before getting up off the bag. Compact, waterproof.
+FlashGeiger Now that's a great tip right there. Thanks for passing it along brother... much appreciated.
+FlashGeiger I use this trick when I have to change out of my j.r.o.t.c. uniform for practice, its very helpful when you have a small backpack :)
+FlashGeiger We use this technique for packing for vacation. Fold and roll up t-shirts, socks, underwear and place in large ziplock bags. Allows us to pack our suitcases more efficiently and keeps stuff wrinkle free.
indeed
Earlier this year I ran a Ragnar Relay, and used ziplock bags to keep my clothes dry for each separate leg of the race. Worked great. I also use ziplocks for my spare batteries when I'm out on the trail. Amazing, lightweight gear.
Finally, the 2-gallon bags work great as a waterproof bag for my sleep clothes & camp clothes when I'm out on the trail. Great videos, man. Keep up the good work.
endless uses and still always new ideas how to use them - thanks a lot, that paracord spender was new to me ;-)
I carry them for all sorts of purposes as well. You touched on them. Nicely done.
That's very good never thought of that! :) Greetings from Ireland and thumbs up ! :)
+Drone Girl Very glad to hear that you liked it! :) Thanks so much for watching, commenting, and the thumbs up... really appreciate that! :)
Cheers.... -John
IntenseAngler Your'e welcome :) John. Have a lovely Christmas :)
Great info. I use a couple of the large resealable bags to package an "emergency" set of thermal underwear and a wool hat and gloves. The bags pack down small and stay waterproof. If I get drenched or accidentally go for a swim, at least I have a quick backup to help stay warm.
Wow! Those were great tips. Thanks for sharing!
An essential in my pack for sure. Great job!
so glad to have these videos back
+Brian Patterson Thanks Brian... that means alot man. Appreciate the support my friend :)
blow one up, for a makeshift pillow for some comfort while sleeping. nothing worse than a rocky/hard place to lay your head.
Great ideas for use of plastic bags, thanks for the info !!
I always look forward to your vids. Keep up the good work!
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing.
amazing as always !! thanks so much gentlemen!!
I have been waiting so long for this!
Good selection of tips. FWIW, I prefer the Hefty Zipper brand of plastic bags. Zipper makes it easier to know the bag is sealed. And, as was noted, good to cinch up anything that extends from the bag.
Tip: Bag can be used as a glove to protect hand from contamination, if needed.
Tip: Zippered bag - No need to cut off corner with water collection. Just seal 80-90% of opening. Grasp opposite corner in one hand, hold zipper in other to guide water flow.
Tip: To make more heavy duty containers cover bag body with duck, duct, or clear HD packing tape. Cut strips a little longer than width of the bag to overlap the edges. Center bottom strip to overlap each side of bag.
great tips, thank you!
Great tips. I appreciate it. Thanks very much!
Thnx for posting videos this is probably my fav channel
+CoolBricks Hey thanks.. that really means ALOT my friend! :)

Nice vid man
Great Job!!
Thanks Brother!
great tips, thanks
+flon57 Thanks my friend... glad you liked 'em!
in regard to food packs, I often bring a)oatmeal with brown sugar added. just add hot water and you have breakfast. and b) those sidekicks fettuccine pasta packets into a ziplock with some powdered milk, extra Parmesan cheese, and a little margarine. again just add water and eat. in general you can easily make your own meals to go in this fashion by adding all ingredients and adding hot water later.
A pancake tip:
Sprinkle some grated/finely shredded cheese on top of ur pancakes after you pour the batter inside ur pan. It makes 'em cheesy and fluffy.
My buddy came up with the idea on our previous camping trip, made my morning that much better.
+16.5toHeaven Mmm... now that sounds like one I gotta try for sure :) Thanks man
Thumbs up !
ENJOY....THE SIMPLE LIFE
+Wolf Travels2 Thanks Brother!
I take a new resalable bag roll it up starting with the top to put it on the inside. Then take a piece of clear office tape about the same length and seal the end of the roll. It now is a usable straw to get to shallow pools of water that can't be reached any other way. When a bag is needed just peel off the tape and open up the bag. Thanks John for a great channel, with plenty of useful information .....o~*o.....Ride On.....Dude!
Great tips. One use I use is if you use Freezer ziploc, you can put boiling water in them. I use them to make my oatmeal etc in so I don't have a mess to clean up.
I've been using ziplock bags for years. My only tip is that I use the freezer storage bags for most of my applications. They have thicker plastic and are sturdier for protecting my items. And yes I keep some of the regular bags on hand also. Those I use for cooking, funnel work and boots and such.
Great tips right there.........cheers 👍
+Tony Eden Thanks for watching Tony! Glad you enjoyed the info. :) - Chris
Always good man...........and Johns a legend 👍
Agreed! John's a great guy and has amazing info to share. Thanks again.
You are a dork and so am I. I use ziplocks all over the place and don't even have to be in nature to have them be ultra useful....I carry empty ones just in case in at least two sizes in my purse. Long live the brotherhood....
anything saving water is great thanx
You forgot #12 - omelet in a bag. My favorite backpacking breakfast on the trail. Just google omelet in a bag, you'll see.
Should always carry two x 1L bags in your pockets. With puritabs. It goes wrong that's your emergency rehydration covered.
+leighrate Some solid advice right there brother. Doesn't take any room to carry along, and like you mentioned; you'll have an extremely important element taken care of in the event something goes wrong. ATB
well that was some damn fine video
If weight was really a concern, then I would ditch the over-sized aluminum pot and nalgene bottle first. Then replace with a smaller titanium pot + platypus bottle or something similar, but since that isn't the topic of this video, so I think some of the tips are pretty good. :)
this is no big deal, but a one gallon bag holds one t-shirt, one under shorts, and one pair of socks too.
+Ibpn It's a good to know! :-) Thanks.
I love survival tips! I’ll be sure to repack my bug out bag because I don’t have enough of the right kind of food!
I'm glad to hear that you found this useful my friend! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment by the way... it's much appreciated!
Nice tips! Remember to dispose of the bags properly. Burn used bags, or bring back home for recycling - also the cut off corners.
yes!!!!! these again
+R.C. Trail Runners :-)
You need more subs man
For military, use your mess tin as a wash basin
Another great video John #anothermnproduct

Good vid) but I do same stuff with any bags))) till 80's)
awsome
+Goddess1Princess Thanks!
Yeah, I love plastic bags for a lot of things.
+NWIPrepper19113 They are handy little items to carry. They take up very little space and don't weigh much. We love them too. :) - Chris
One item I feel is essential and takes very little space is a heavy duty trash bag. The contractor .9 mil kind.
You forgot to mention how they are very convenient for transporting small amounts of contraband. Oops said to much. Also the pancakes were burnt :)
good
Gorp? you mean trail mix? Personally i use regular plastic grocery bags for the boot covers.. They are bigger and free.
Making pancakes outside in a snowstorm because why not.
+s0nnyburnett Everyone knows pancakes taste better in a snowstorm ;) Seriously.. thanks for taking the time to watch and comment... it's very much appreciated. ATB
love those ziplocks.
another use is take the tube out of a roll of toilet paper, flatten thee t.p.and put in the bag. you can squeeze the air out for space saving as well
+FJ55ironpig They sure do come in handy for a wide variety of uses don't they. Good tip on the T.P. btw... that's one essential item ya definitely gotta protect ;)
+IntenseAngler Pull the TP out from the center, where the tube used to be. Mors tip.
blow one up like a balloon and use it to raise a foot when you strain it. Helps keep swelling down or you can use it as an air pillow. Who knew right? Cell phones work best when in a ziplock and no condensation gets in it.
what kind of bag is it?
They both used the utube required greeting “hello guys “.
If you have little feet (no, not the band) you can use ziplocks + duct tape for an improvised pair of boots.
+Tim M Good one Tim. Thanks for passing that along my friend.
#2 in f'in genius!
Better use really good quality bags.
First, while they make cost a little more, every bag you take should have the slider lock. They're not only easier to use, they're infinitely more secure. The first tip is a horrible, horrible, terrible, awful, ridiculous, worst thing I've ever heard idea. There's a reason they say "never put all your eggs in one basket. If the basket gets dropped, all your eggs get broken. The same is true with meals and zip lock bags. Your meals should be in separate, smaller baggies, or you're likely to be very, very, very hungry before the trip is over. One bag really doesn't even save space. You still have the same bulk. If you want to put your meals in a large bag to avoid clutter, then put the meals in small baggies first. And then guard the large bag with your life because it's still not a great idea. Cutting off the corner before dipping the bag it a stream doesn't make any sense, either. It's just as easy to zip the bag almost all the way close before removing it from the stream. You can then pour from the opening you left, and without ruining a baggie. As for the rain pants, I don't think they make a baggie big enough to pull over my boots. I found a solution, though. I take my boots off before I pull on my rain pants.
+James Ritchie What do you do when your slider locks break. They always break. I'm a double gripper zipper kinda guy. I know they make a two gallon double zipper bag. but you gotta search for them.
I found some at Walmart that is a 10 gallon bag. Holds my sleeping gear and keeps it dry! Plus some other uses as well.
+aureliusva FWIW, I use the Hefty *Freezer* Bags with the slider lock. Prefer freezer bags as they are more durable than storage bags, regardless of brand chosen. Prefer the slider lock for several reasons. Faster, easier than trying to line up portions of a "ziplock", and much more assurance of a good seal. As to a slider lock breaking, simple solution is to carry a couple of spare bags. Extra bags are good to have for a long, long, list of reasons. Can't think of any reason why they can't be stashed in everyones, kits. Including the gram counter folks! :-)
Oldtimer Lee I have never had good luck with sliders, on or off the trail. You carry a big trash bag too? Sometimes I'll use a really thick black garbage bag as a liner for my pack.
aureliusva Yes, I have 2 black 55 gal heavy duty contractor trash bags in each kit/bag/pack in our household, for whatever need arises. Also use white trash compactor bags for pack liners & other uses beyond the scope of food storage zippered bags.
I don't think tip one is saving anything. Maybe a couple of grams on a bag or two, and the space you will need for that extra bandana, lol. Tip two, you can mark/scratch measurements on a water or Nalgene bottle, because sharpie rubs off of plastic bags.
a really good use for them is a place to keep ur weed
Number 12 is you can use the Ziploc bag to put over yer wife's head when she's sleeping then be sure to wrap duct tape around the bottom to ensure no fresh air gets in. Then once she stops kicking be sure to put the bag over your hands and wipe down any prints you might've left then head for the hills
100000000000 things to use resealable bags for, every single one includes putting something inside it
how about when you put the bigger sizes down on a wet surface like a log before sitting in it, so as to keep the seat of your pants dry? :)
AceMcCoy thats actually a good idea, i'll try that one out some time
In Girl Scouts we used to make something we called a "sit-upon" for just that purpose. We generally used woven newspapers for the cushion part, and put them in plastic, I think, and made a tie to tie around one's waist to keep it handy. That was eons ago, back in the 1960s...
make more videos pls!!!! :-) :-) :-)
Is that guy related to Drew Carey?
You should never waste a ziplog bag by cutting the corner of or something like that becouse you could need it later and especially in emegency situations it can be crytical. Reusing bags saves commodities too and is better for the enviroment as wel.
I would need grocery bags to put my feet in. you must have small feet to be able to fit them in a zip lock bag.
Do more angling videos!
happy thanksgiving. :)
+penguin chick Thanks. Hope you had a very happy Thanksgiving yourself :)
Instead of cutting the bags just "roll the sleeve up" of the top rim and be careful from ripping the corners of the zips.
Some good tips there to be fair, however those pancakes looked awful!! another great tip with them assuming you have some good quality air tight ziplocks is to use them as a pillow.
+scorcheo ukpreps The first pancake in a batch always looks bad! lol Takes a couple of them to get the heat, timing, & griddle all in tune. No matter how awful (unless burned to a crispy critter) still tastes good. Specially if there's some budda and gen-u-wine maple syrup handy. :-)
+scorcheo ukpreps Ha, I suppose I have never been the best chef, but on a cold day a hot breakfast always tastes good. I promise I can cook 'em a little better when I'm not filming the process too. Thanks for sharing the pillow idea too. It's always nice to cover the bag in a bandana, buff, or other soft item for added comfort. Thanks for watching. :) - Chris
yea i blow mine up and put it inside my beanie hat like a pillow case, works really well.
How about.. Shock your viewers just once, on the next video, by saying something different then 'john here ofcourse' and 'support is truly appriciated' .. Just once :-) Other then that, good job a nice to see you're back again.
guys, please just be yourselves. you don't need to imitate the style of the soulless monsters that are infomercials.
on the issue of slider bags being undependable. Buy the best there is. You are only using a few so buy the best. You aren't supplying the whole world, just you.
Just curious....do you post anything original or just repost Chris’ ideas and videos?
Those food packs are expensive
You guys think just like me.
