    Nirvaan you are a lifesaver. This could be the most helpful comment ever!
    YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE THE DRYER APART to change out this switch. Thank you Nirvaan
    Here are the steps with a bit more detail. First unplug the dryer and then follow this list:
    1) Remove top (three screws)
    2) Remove computer cover (three screws)
    3) Get slack on the door switch wire harness - to do this pop out the grommet at the front of the dryer
    4) Grab the door switch from the front of the dryer with a strong pair of channel lock pliers. You will need channel locks.
    5) Crush the switch while pulling forward. You will likely break chunks of it off as you pull. No problem, keep doing it. You want to crush it to release the lock tabs in behind.
    6) Pull the crushed switch completely through the hole.
    7) Disconnect three wire spades from back of crushed switch
    8) Plug the three wire spades onto the new switch
    9) Push the new switch in the hole and put everything back together. Done with maybe 10% of the labour
    I had to do an additional step that you may have to do as well. My old switch did not have wires that pulled off the back. Here are the additional steps:
    1) Unplug door switch wire harness from top
    2) Pull harness and crushed switch through the front of the dryer
    3) Disconnect three wire spades from back of new switch (Note where the colours go first)
    4) Plug new harness into dryer. No switch, the wires must be free.
    5) Feed a long zap strap through the front hole of the dryer up to the harness (coat hanger works too)
    6) Tape one of the three wire spades around the end of the zap strap
    7) Pull the zap strap back through the switch hole pulling the wire through the hole along with it
    8) Untape the wire and repeat this process for the other two wires. Note that you must do this one wire at a time as there is not room for three wire spades and the zap strap
    9) Plug the three wires onto the new switch and reinstall
    Lots to type. But if I help one person, it will be worth it :)

    You can pry the switch out through the front without dismantling the entire dryer. You will need to take the top off and remove a wire clip to allow for some slack in the wire. Then simply disconnect wires from the switch and re-use the wires.

    This is useful information for anyone who still has one of these dryers here in the future. Switch is long gone from any supplier, so good luck to any fellow vintage dryer users! Still, disassembly video is good information if I have to get... creative.

    Awesome video!! Step by step without skipping a beat on my Kenmore elite HE4. Especially appreciated that you continued through the entire re-assembly process instead of just saying reverse the steps that got you here. Thanks!

    Thanks.
    I just pulled the door switch far enough out to push the locking tabs in with a small flat screwdriver. After that I separated the switch housing enough to squirt some DeOxit in there with a spay can tube nozzle. Exercised the switch a few times, pushed it back in place and it works. 5 minutes and zero dollars.
    BTW an easy way to test the switch is to see if the light goes on when the door is opened. .😁

    I wasn't expecting this to work because I wasn't 100% sure the issue was related to the switch. But, after following the instructions point by point and putting in a new switch. Bingo! The dryer is working again.

    My kenmore dryer model quick pak9 he5 doesn’t have any lights on the access panel, but the light in the dryer’s drum is on. Is it the door switch or the control board? Thank you so much.

  • @rickdeschepper2213
    @rickdeschepper2213 3 года назад

    Hung: I really can’t remember if the control panel lights were on when my door switch failed but I think the panel was still lighted. You may have a bigger problem if you have no lights on the panel.

    I need to replace the power button. How do I get to it?

  • @JV-he3gb
    @JV-he3gb 3 года назад

    I followed your instructions and replaced the switch once. It worked for a few months. Then became sporadic. Working and not working. Now it won’t work at all and there are only slightly dim lights at the high temp light and 2 very faint dashes in the time light window.

    Would be nice to know if the switch is working or not before taking apart the dryer or getting replacement switch.

    • @appliancepartspros
      @appliancepartspros  8 лет назад

      +Phil Rizarri These video are to show the basics on how to change the parts, not in depth troubleshooting. The door switch can be tested for continuity with a meter. Without knowing what you have, I would suggest posting the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem. forum.appliancepartspros.com/

      If the light doesn’t come on when you open the door, the switch may have gone bad

    • @johnmotley8534
      @johnmotley8534 5 лет назад

      With the dryer plugged in, go into diagnostic mode, to put my HE3 into diagnostic mode I press more time-less time-more time-less time, all the lights come on and the timer reads 88. Open the door, if it does not beep or the timer reads any number i.e. 0E, 0G, 1E and so on, the switch may be bad. According to my dryers tech sheet (found under the top panel or inside in the bottom panel) I need to replace the door switch and wires or the control board.

    You don’t have to take everything off like that. It’s completely ridiculous. Why he did that is beyond me.
