With this one I was inspired by some old classics like Marvin Gaye’s ‘Let’s Get It On’. I just felt like, man, I’ve never written a ‘bedroom song’ (👀), so this is my swing at that. Something that sounds like her skin against mine. Something that sounds like a vibrating cell phone unanswered at the bedside. I hope you can get into it.
Also, thanks so much to everyone who’s been here with me. I’ve been dropping music the last Friday of every month since May (and I’m still going; next one’s dropping on November 27th), and you all have been so supportive, so kind, so inspiring, and I cannot thank you enough for that. Since I lost my job earlier this year, my whole fanbase has grown tremendously and I just feel blessed. You’re all a gift. Every message I’ve read from you, every comment, everything, it all just makes me feel like, man, I think I’m actually doing this.
And here’s some encouragement for you, because I owe you for all the fuel you’ve provided me by being part of this. I hope you and everyone who engages in my world can summon the courage to seek and claim your own joy in this life. We’re here briefly. Our light shines for a moment; we’re more like fireworks than we are the sun. And even so, if we own it, our glow can be as powerful as it is brief. There is no wound in your mind that cannot be healed. There is no pit you cannot pull yourself out of. There is no darkness that cannot be illuminated by your own glow. You’re a few difficult decisions away from claiming your joy - make them and see afterward your scars undone.
I used to hate myself. I used to drink until I couldn’t recognize myself in the mirror. I used to dwell constantly on all that I wasn’t, and all I felt I’d never be. I say all that just so you know from how deep my own sun had to rise from behind my own horizon.
