  • What do you do once a student has mastered a skill? In Jen's classroom, when a student has reached skill mastery academically, it's time to work on fluency! Being fluent in a skill (i.e. letters, numbers, telling time, etc.) is incredibly important as it is helpful across the board - not just in the classroom, but in the real world! We want to help our students free up brain power by instantly recognizing a word or what time it is simply by looking at a clock. In reading, fluency creates a bridge for comprehension.
In this video, Jen shares how she sets up and runs fluency centers for reading and math goals in her classroom in a low-prep and easy way. She also shares how she adjusts her tasks from expressive to receptive, depending on the student's abilities!

I go for a shorter duration of 15-20 seconds with my son so we can work on different skills on any given day .
