      I accept the secret Christian handshake. 😇 Anyway, I am disappointed that the Red didn't do as well as the Arri. I knew which was which from the first shot because the Red didn't get as much detail in the shadows as the Arri and also the Red was cropped in more because of the S35 sensor. Right now I'm choosing between the FX6 and the Canon C400 for my future career in narrative. Edit: Also it looks like you keep a Promist filter on your Red at all times?

    Yep i could tell immediately ... Arri just has a softer more natural look to it. So nice. The Red looks great though ... I think only camera geeks will realize the difference. Most people wont realize but they might sense that it just looks nicer (even in their subconscious)..

    Yeah, I figured Camera B was the Alexa. The Alexa Cameras are known to have more of a filmic look. Verses the Red which appears more contrasty. All in all, they’re both amazing cameras.

    Main difference is the highlight rolloff and how the Alexa handles shadows. The ALEV 3 sensor is just… It’s special.

    I guessed it right, alexa mini & xt plus owner 😅 glad i didn’t screw that up!
    Couldn’t really tell from the “color” per say, as there was a decently heavy look applied and there wasnt much color in the frames/very neutral tones (black,grey,whites)
    But the biggest give away was the raised shadows in the arri vs the crunchy blacks in the komodo. Usually i have to go out of my way to get that look when colouring my footage

  • @gfilmdawg
    @gfilmdawg Месяц назад +2

    We used my Komodo, because of its global shutter, on a Paramount film with two Arri LF’s. No one could tell we mixed cameras. Footage from the Komodo was in 20% of the film. It’s a great little camera!

    uhhh-- yea, is this even a question? Red's have been used in movies for forever now.

  • @cokebottles6919

    I've shot on both the Komodo and Alexa LF dozens of times. I did liked B more, but wasn't 100% sure which was which. When doing side by sides and uploading to youtube, the differences feel negligible. But in actual practice, ESPECIALLY when shooting in high contrast situations like interiors with natural light out the windows, the difference is huge. Any Alexa is going to provide a better looking image IMO... But, the Komodo is an amazing camera that I love so much. Going from the Komodo to the Alexa isn't going to launch your career forward.
    If I had a choice of a #1 better/larger crew (to a point), #2 better talent, #3 better location, #4 better lighting and grip package, or #5 jumping to the Alexa, the Alexa would be at the bottom of that list.

    The cameras look almost exactly the same in your examples and many others I seen. My advice is to get the Komodo and add the price savings to your production design or an actor with some name recognition. That’s what will matter the most for a low budget film. The audience will never notice the difference between the two cameras.

    Got it wrong - mind you, I’m looking at this on my smartphone. One thing to bear in mind - on Red versus Arri generally - is that it was the Red Company that led the way circa 2009 in the “innovation” of movies capable of being shot digitally - and much of the industry being satisfied that this move away from celluloid was acceptable. So - check out the movies shot on the first Red cameras back then - and ask yourself: In absolute terms - and ignoring the specific issue dealt with in this video - was the Red capable of producing the goods ? Or - to put it another way - did Arri then getting in on the action lead to a quantum leap (with movies shot on their Alexa) over the Red ? The tech specs of most movies shot from 2009/2010 on are available on IMDb - but watch the movie first and then look at tech specs !!!!

    Sigh. I say this to all artists who rely on specific electronic or other gear--musicians, filmmakers, etc... "A poor craftsman blames his tools".
    Do you think one person in history walked out of a Hitchcock film complaining about the lack of a drone shot or not having whip-pans? The story, the song, the depth of thinking put into anything artistic--is where the value is, not the fact you shot it in 16-bit with 18 stops of whatever.

      The GFX is a great still camera. For motion images, you will love the quality if your camera is static however the rolling shutter on the GFX may frustrate you in instances that you pan or have certain types of motion in your imagery. I was highly disappointed in some footage I was really looking forward to reviewing on a project that I did not have the opportunity to reshoot. On the other hand for the cost of the GFX vs the Komodo may enable you to purchase perhaps a new gfx and a used black magic pocket to shoot video with when you want to shoot motion? hmm......

    @Kalimforgetthen Месяц назад +2

    People need to understand one thing about all these comparisons
    ARRI is that expensive, because the construction quality is very high, an ARRI is close to indestructible.
    That's half the price.
    Then you pay a lot for the service you get from ARRI, which is pretty brutally good, but none of this will affect the picture.
    Whether blackmagic or red or arri, in the end it doesn't matter. None at all.
    As long as you're not making a feature film and rely on service and maintenance and indestructibility, there's no reason, by God, to buy an ARRI.
    Even red has now officially reduced its prices by 30% because blackmagic has become so strong.
