“Expanded wider and more open” are great adjectives for the image. The best description i have heard to describe the difference and these are exactly the kind of adjectives worth hearing rather than “awesome” or “cinematic” which is so often the preferred adjective of many camera reviews and Red themselves. I just made a feature film using 2 Komodos. Things to be aware of, the fan doesn't turn off, which can be an issue with audio, and if you're running this on your shoulder in the summer in socal, you're going to be sweaaaaating.

I actually wrote Kondor and told them to put the rosette at the top and a bunch of other things. I'm sure I wasn't the only one to feedback. Glad they listen. They baseplate with the adapter brackets is one of the best. Wait until you see my komodo build.
did you ever try the sony f55? having owned red, arri, sony and canon cinema cameras - the red is easily the most expensive based solely on all the extras you need to buy. it’s one thing if you own a bunch of extra items for whatever reason, but if you don’t, red is always going to be the most expensive at this price point to start shooting with.

Been shooting on Sony (FX6/FX3) for years and finally picked up a KOMODO just to try and re-light a fire and get inspired. Sure wished I had done it sooner. Everything I thought about uisng it was wrong. Sure its got its quirks but they are nearly as deal breaking as I thought..

That shot of the eye coming over the log in anamorphic is just the bees knees Cam. Dang. I've got the FX3. I've got 2 lol. Yep, they're tools but I look at them like tools and not much else... - They don't make me want to jump out and have fun, get creative and such. They get the job done. When i look at that intro, that's the kind of stuff i want to shoot raw and gritty in the southwest. Thanks for the vid and the hard work sir!

I could afford fx30 only, but I will try my best with it. Only 2 things I miss from fx line, global shutter and shutter angle. There is 27% tax in my country, so Komodo is a no go for a while haha. I love the style of your videos. Even if its kinda a review "only", it feels like a short film with a story. The very only small thing I would consider is to cut the low/mid freqs from your voice a tiny little bit. Cheers from Hungary
FX line doesn’t need global shutter tho, it was one of the fastest sensors out there in the consumer pricing bracket. I don’t think most need global shutter haha. But it is great to have!
cleanest mf grades compositions and tips in the game.. i had to keep pausing during the whole vid cause some of these shots and colors were just astronomical

Still rocking my BMPCC6k for similar reasons. Obviously a lot of compromises in comparison with the Komodo X body, a tenth the price used tho lol. Braw just goes so much harder than my a74 for the projects that warrant it. Would love to see you play with the braw on the 6k sometime because I still think it goes wayyy hard for the price when you use the highlight recovery feature in resolve. Really wish the komodo X had a sony e mount though, but otherwise an incredible camera for that price!
@@cammackey yes I remember you shooting on it! That was one thing that inspired me to get the 6k! I will say the sensor on the 6k is leaps and bounds better in terms of DR when you shoot at iso 800-1000 and use highlight recovery…I just wish the bodies weren’t so cumbersome 😅

Watch till the end for your answer. And I saw those! I don’t think I’ll be using them anytime soon tho, they’re basically just like any other photo glass. Focus by wire, super clinal and clean. The only thing they would have going for them is if they all matched up in color and sharpness, but I don’t think they do. So I wouldn’t buy into the hype
@@cammackey they're actually not focus by wire, they're linear and have 300 degree focus pull. Also all of them color match each other. I've gotten the 45mm t1.9 and I won't lie, they're pretty sweet Cam! Only reason I was asking if you'd do a review on them is because I genuinely love your work. And yes I did notice the FX3 part after ha ha.

I have the Dulens which give this super clean vintage look. And the Laowa rangers which have a lot of charm to them too, most of the talking head in this video was shot with the Rangers

@@cammackey never tried any RED cameras, but for me, the best colours and image quality from a sensor I've seen is actually out of the Sigma FP. Beats all the Sony cams hands down. But since it's an L mount, I don't have any glassI can use for it. The Z mount has the shortest flange distance of any cameras so there are no mounts for it to be able to put on the Sigma. This video definitely peaked my interest in RED.

Man the vmount makes life way easier. And those two things, if they’re gripes for you.. are in the shadow of all the other upgrades haha. I’ll be use this camera on way more things now. Super pumped about it. I missed my OG Komodo but I just had to walk away from it
@@cammackey you're about the only mf on here i trust when it comes to red recommendations for real. i run mine on a gimbal and do a lot of concert work, almost always electronic minus the ashanti stuff recently. i need those canon batteries for gimbal work cuz i can't tell you how many times i've had to legit hurdle a noob that insists on blocking a shot. it works great for speaker box jumps from the stage to the rail man haha. i can balance it in the dark in under a minute and be moving. i do have some gdu v mounts and i love them, use them for everything else. i like having the versatility to use both for sure.

Simple. Use CST in davinci and convert both to Arri. If you don’t use davinci, switch. Haha.

My dream camera is an Arri in a Komodo/x form factor & under 20k. Something special about their outputs; Red is kind of a stopgap.

Even an m1 can handle red footage now haha. But layers of footage is where it can start getting bogged down. I have an M1 Max so idk

Monitor cage is from Amazon, I don’t recall which brand. There’s a couple of them. I pained it right when I got it so don’t remember the brand 😂

I had my Og Komodo for a while! To be honest, the fashion campaigns were getting old and uninspiring. I traded it in the something more conventional

Man the vmount makes life way easier. And those two things, if they’re gripes for you.. are in the shadow of all the other upgrades haha. I’ll be use this camera on way more things now. Super pumped about it. I missed my OG Komodo but I just had to walk away from it
@@cammackey you're about the only mf on here i trust when it comes to red recommendations for real. i run mine on a gimbal and do a lot of concert work, almost always electronic minus the ashanti stuff recently. i need those canon batteries for gimbal work cuz i can't tell you how many times i've had to legit hurdle a noob that insists on blocking a shot. it works great for speaker box jumps from the stage to the rail man haha. i can balance it in the dark in under a minute and be moving. i do have some gdu v mounts and i love them, use them for everything else. i like having the versatility to use both for sure.
