Thats awesome! I never cared much for the SG, but earlier this year the SG just popped in my mind and just couldn't get my minf out of it. I looked for one that had a good chunkier neck (I dont dig the slim taper) and the standard ticked al lthe boxes, although I agree prefer the smaller pickguard. And Holy damn! The Sg blew my mind. Such a unique guitar, and sounds so unique, different than the les paul. Love both and is just so easy to play and light and the upper access is fantastic. Has everything I dont like from a Les Paul. Glad you are loving it, the SG's are indeed a beast of their own.
I always hated the sg but now I want one.... I just bought my first les paul 50s standard. I've owned washburns, schecters, fenders and so own. Now you've got me really wanting one !
Just got my first SG. An Epiphone SG Modern that I have fallen in love with. Killer neck. Killer ickups. Split coil p90 sounds. Fantastic binding. I am a huge SG fan now
@@Ethesilentkid and Pete Townshend, and Derek Trucks, and Frank Zappa, and Jimi Hendrix, Clapton played one also, so did Carlos Santana. A lot more artists play them than you think.
I have wanted the SG ‘61 standard since they came out , in ‘19 ? , I think . Mine was delivered on Friday 11/15/24 , two days ago and I absolutely love it . I have many reasons why I chose the one I bought but I think the line is fantastic ! I can hear her calling out to me now , gotta go ! Later .
The Epiphone 61 that is 949.00 comes with burst buckers 2 and 3 and a hard case. I had an SG when I was 18 ish. Crown SG copy. It was actually a great guitar for 199.00. Sold it later and bought a Cortez les paul custom which was also a nice guitar with unreal sustain. Both were MIJ of course. When I went Gibson shopping after my attempts to purchase one I liked failed so I went to the back street music store to see what he had. Well the new kid on the block was in town Hamer. So I passed the Gibson step and just went to the top. Lower price and better quality. I still have a 1980 Hamer Standard. It's worth over 5 digits today.
It’s a shame Hamer didn’t last. I had a Slammer Explorer and it wasn’t great but it was a Slammer so it wasn’t supposed to be. Maybe that down market move under the same brand name hurt the brand. Rick Nielsen was one of my favorite Hamer guys. I’m gonna do an Epiphone SG at some point soon
@@GearGasms The Hamer Specials and Sunburst models were just as good if not better than any double cut les paul that Gibson was asking a grand for and the sunburst was like 700. Les Paul Killer for sure. To be fair equal at worse.
If you want a real guitar, GIBSON. There are others. Same with cars, why buy, and bitch,YOU bought it! I don't care for your twinkle sound, can't you do better? @@GearGasms it's been time, my 89 year old Dad broke his neck falling in the garden! He's bouncing back like you wouldn't believe. These old people are something else.
OMG. I went through exactly the same thing. Thought my SG was garbage because it wasn't a Charvel/Jackson with EMGs. Decades later, still have the SG. It's irreplaceable. Nothing like it.
I have this guitar! It's pretty cool! I also have the Gibson SG Special with P90s in Ebony. One of the best guitar ever. What are your thoughts of the P90 pickups?
Aight cuzes I'm bout ti fill ye in on the perfect SG set up! 1. Move strap button the horn, it lessens dive a lil and all of the roll away 2. Add a fine tuner tailpiece 3. Add a roller wheel bridge 4. Add locking tuners 5. Maybe a roller nut too but mine stayed without one 2.
I love the way SG's look (especially with the new colors), but they've always felt oddly balanced to me. Club neck and skinny body. Never tried the 61 Standard, though. Maybe they're better. Good video.
How old are you? Youre pictures of your first guitars and attire closely match mine! Also you're SG story mirrors mine! I have always been a Les Paul guy even in the 80's when everyone was playing Charvels and Jacksons etc etc. Ace was my first guitar hero followed by Joe Perry who obviously both played Les Pauls. I agree I didnt like the look either. But like you I went into my local guitar store and my buddy was selling his 61 reissue. The EXACT same thing happened to me! Sounded great, played great (and I usually favor big necks) I have the vibrola, which I never touch unless it was an accident. I DO like how the small guard looks over the batman guard. It is now one of my GO TO guitars. Enjoy my friend I know I am
I bought one years ago. Had a shitty bridge on that wouldn't sustain a millisecond. I bought a Callaham bridge for it that fixed that problem. I think I got the same pups you have. Probably great in a band to cut, but way too bright for my ears in the house. My next mod was dropping Gibson's humbucker sized P-90s in it. I think the tuners are kind crappy. Hard to keep in tune for long, but I doubt I'll change those. I'm not much of a lead virtuoso, but I will say that tweedling around on the SG is the easiest of my 3 electrics. My one other gripe about it is the fret nubs. They look nice and all, but the high E string want's to fall right off the fret board the string gets anywhere near those things. I do love the lightness of that guitar. It's the one I'm most likely to pickup and noodle around on unplugged as it's very comfortable to hold while I watch a baseball game on TV.
Maaannn I can't wait to finally get a SG!! It's definitely gonna be an Epiphone, because 1. I'm a novice player and 2. I'm only paying for a Gibson SG when I can afford it and truly play it lol

Nice guitar, Alan! I recently bought a used Epiphone SG. It hangs on my wall, looking cool, and I pick it up and play it, and it sounds great (because I upgraded the bridge pickup) but it's a little uncomfy to play sitting down.
