I love my Gibson SG Standard in the dark cherry color. Such smooth and easy to play guitars. And you can get very cool tones for all kinda sounds you want.
Glad for you man. Sounds great ,white is the best color. I’ve had a couple of SGs. But I never got past the dropsies……the neck always went straight to floor if I let go of it for a split second. Cool axe. Keep em coming brother
I bought a TV yellow SG standard after watching this video. I also love the bigger pickguard and the soft case that comes with these is awesome - I would choose it over a hardshell case! Those 490 pickups rock! I am very happy with this guitar!
Congrats I love SGs. Such easy access to all the frets I find, and sound ferocious. I’m gonna have rewatch your Drop Dead Legs lesson and see what you changed up that sounded awesome.
I own 3 SG’s and they are by far my favorite. My Cherry Standard I purchased as a new husk via Stratosphere and I loaded it with vintage harness / caps and Gibson’s 57’ Classic Underwound pickups. Has an extremely dark fretboard and the action is the lowest of all my guitars, it plays and sounds phenomenal honestly. On a side note I also dig the slightly beefier neck profile on the Standards as well. Good luck with yours Marty, I also own a white Standard too but with the smaller guard ( 2017 Sam Ash run ), which I also dig obviously……. White is my favorite color regarding SG’s, mine’s yellowing considerably now too…. Just more mojo ahah. Thanks for sharing man, cool stuff.
A cool addition to any collection, many hours of fun ahead taming that bad boy! Great SG color, when you unleashed it I thought straight away of the white SG Samantha Fish plays. smashing content as ever. 👍👍
Congrats on the SG. I have a bunch of guitars, but there's just something about how certain guitars make you play a certain way.... my SG and my '65 Firebird III both invite you to play on the upper end of the fret board. Rock On, Guitar Friends! 🤟🍺🥃🍻🎸🧑🌾
I bought one exactly like yours, about 20 20 ,my first was a one p90 white through a super reverb by Fender for amp. That was 1967, still love the feel, the extra cost is the case.If your going to tour, nothing will suffice, except a hard case. I have watched a plane loading crew, and they think its funny to throw handle with care as far in the back as possible. When I went to England I payed for a seat. Those guys that load SOMETIMES get carried away. Good vid, nice guitar, informational as possible, fair assessment, great playing, young guy, carry it on!
I got a SG Standard in heritage cherry two years ago. It looks awsome in white, congratulations! I changed the electronics to better ones and the pickups to Bare Knuckle Riff Raffs. Highly recommended - instant Angus sound! 😎 Neck is really chunky, much bigger compared to the '61. The Standard has much more sustain and a fatter sound than the '61s (even before the changes), maybe because of the bigger neck. This is my favourite guitar now - perfect for classic rock, AC/DC, early Van Halen etc. ❤
Very nice! I may do some modifications down the road m, but for now I'm really happy with the pickups in this SG. I was pleasantly surprised. The intonation this guitar has and resonance are very impressive. I'm really happy with it!
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker The original pickups are also great. No doubt about that, Marty! With the Riff Raffs you get the raw AC/DC sound of the Bon Scott era even more authentically and that's what I was going for. Of course we're also talking about the insatiable, irrational desire to never leave guitars unmodified... 😅
Geez Marty i just got the same thing in cherry red just came today i got it from the Demo shop great price im on a Black Sabbath kick Tony is the godfather of metal awesome man 👍👏🤘
I have a 490 set on an older studio platinum. When I first got it I hated those pups. I just kept messing with them, they are VERY sensitive to string heights. I also had to figure out what pedals and amps they went with. Somewhere along the line they became the favorite pickups I have on a Gibson. Especially for rhythm but they are great for lead too! They are just a little dry and they have this rip like a buzz saw! A real fast clip like easing into a rat pedal. Give them a chance. Edited to say they are neat simply because you usually get a 490 only on the neck and then they give you the 498 t. It could why they are a bit hard to set or sound different. Not nearly as hot in the bridge.
People often dislike the 490s in Les Paul models. I think they sound great in my 2008 SG standard. I put an Angus signature pickup in my guitar. I took in out because the 490t sounded more AC/DC. I think Gibson are an elite pickup maker.
I can agree. I've heard them in an LP studio and was not too fond. First impressions, they sound great to me in this SG. They have a lot of bite and chirp. I agree, Gibson make awesome pickups. I love BB 1/2/3 and classic 57's.
Marty thanks for sharing, I’m jealous. I could have bought an Angus Young SG, but opted for a Les Paul That was my big purchase, although I keep thinking about that SG…… Damn…keep up the the great work
I'm thinking very seriously about buying a SG. I love my Les Paul Classic. With the crush injuries to my body though, it's now too heavy unfortunately.
About a week or so ago at the Guitar Center in Asheville NC I tried one of these in the Cherry Red color that was used and 3 years old. I really liked it and especially the 490 pickups tone. Was really temped to buy it, but I already have 21 guitars...... It reaked of cigarette smoke and the binding had turned yellow. I wondered if the original owner had died of a cigarette smoke overdose. Had the soft case and was listed for $799.00 and in great shape otherwise.
Man, I bet the case smelled bad too! Lol. Could've called it Ol Smokey. I e had a guitar like that before. Had to let it breathe for about a year and it finally smelled normal lol.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Yes, the case did also. There are youtube videos on how to remove cigarette stains and smell etc. Probably do work, but I have never tried them yet. I don't smoke.
@@twowaymuir maybe just play the heck of it so the smoke runs off on you haha! Just kidding 😂😂. It's really gross though. I once ordered some bulk strings from a seller and the entire box of GHS boomers smelled like smoke. And the strings were sealed... but they all broke really easy.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Nice! I go back and forth on Ernie Ball and D Addario. D Addario lasts much longer. But Ernie Ball has that classic 70s and 80s tone. On my Frankenstein clone; I am using Fender 150s. It just works for that early VH thing.
Congratulations, you got the right model, the features are fantastic. The pickups are so sensitive, you can use the the lead to cut through any song, when playing at any volume. You play well, and to me most importantly, its all YOURS,no note for note copying that is done by average guitar players, who would be terrified at the thought of playing for thousands live, and appear nightly in their bedroom. Not everyone who plays well, PERFORMS WELL. BIG,BIG, DIFFERENCE. I have met players that were on a different level good, but can not under any conditions play for anyone. Now to me, I dont get it. BUT if thats your hobby, cool, I get it. Its all in what you achieve what was intended, and satisfy the aspect you were studying to feel successful. Millions play, pro or hobby, and measure their progress in too many ways to be listed. As long as you are satisfied with playing, and truly enjoy it, you will like everybody that takes music to different level, and learn without jealously or competive feelings, knowing you are trying to increase your capability, for your own intelligence, and causing no harm, but possibly some happiness.
iPhones kinda suck in certain lighting and I have to edit colors in my software to get resolution to look ok. I wish I had the luxury of natural lighting at all times. Thanks for watching man I appreciate it! 🙏😎
I don't mind the plug in setup. But it sucks bigoted when you gotta replace one pot. Sound wise I think it's more reliable over time but I prefer single pots.
I trust a machine more than hand wired, many times hand wired in China, or Gibson machinery, that is your choice. I will choose Gibson in the USA, SINCE 67, ,have a great Epiphone Riviera, looks like Gibson 335 .has a great sound. I think you pay for more than a name.😊
Cool guitar Marty! Sounds great on this end
Thanks!🙏 😎
Damn nice guitar. Those burstbuckers sound good too. There's nothing quite like a new guitar day....Congratulations!
No Burstbuckers in this guitar... 490T and 490R. 😉
I love white SGs, they’re my favorite. I have a Pelham Blue SG Standard with the small pick guard. That batwing is cool though! Congratulations!
I love my Gibson SG Standard in the dark cherry color. Such smooth and easy to play guitars. And you can get very cool tones for all kinda sounds you want.
White Standard will complete my collection!! Beautiful!!👍👍👌🎼
@@andrewwilkins4113 that's kinda my thoughts too! White is classy
That is a great looking SG. The white w/ black guard look awesome.
Thanks 🙏. I love the color too. It's classy. 😎🎸
It is a breath of fresh air to see an SG review without the usual blues licks and AC DC, thank you for that
Glad for you man. Sounds great ,white is the best color. I’ve had a couple of SGs. But I never got past the dropsies……the neck always went straight to floor if I let go of it for a split second. Cool axe. Keep em coming brother
Great guitar sound, playing and demo. It’s amazing how close you can get to the drop dead legs sound Eddie got.

I got the 61', don't regret it. Plays and sounds great!
Awesome man! They really do look great. I love the pickups too.
I got the tv yellow. Trogly reviewed the same as I got but the review sg had sloppy head stock paint. Mine came perfect.
Another cool guitar! White SGs remind me of Don Felder from the Eagles. lol.. Cool demo!
Awesome! Glad you were able to make it happen. Congrats
Thanks bro 🤟🏻
Beautiful man...I hope to join you one day. I love the inlays and pickup covers; dream combo.
I love my sg. It reminds me of a les Paul having a baby with a Jem. It’s a shredder w no whammy bar. I love it.
After playing my Les Paul I pick up my SG and it’s like holding air. I love Gibson guitars also.

Heck yeh!
kislux versace bag is so cute
Killer SG Marty! What guitars did you trade ?
What amp are you using? Sounds epic dude!
I Love Gibsons and am an SG Guy...I just got a beautiful FU Tone Guitar and it's a Strat Body and I can't get used to it...

Wow... you just 'get guitars in the MAIL'....LOL I trade up too... just messing round! Love your channel.
