Have you tried to ignore your dog when you go in/out, meaning, no baby talk right before you leave/come back or anything of that sort, like some people do a whole 5 minute apology to their dog just before they go to work and then do 5 minutes of extreme baby talk/just showering the dog with praise right when they come back from work to "make up" for having to wait. What this does to your dog is that it tells them that you leaving/coming back is a VERY special event that under any and all circumstances must be attended to, which gets your dog super excited and once you leave and it has nowhere to put this excitement, it whines and cries. Aren't labs supposed to be more intelligent? Also I've heard they're meaner. I'd say proceed with caution and socialize gradually. Depends on character so much, especially with fosters. My foster was too reactive towards other dogs although not necessarily aggressive but she did calm down after around 3-4 months. I'm a newbie too though so I'm sure that matters a lot too
@@SA-ey6ntnot really Golden's aren't stupid at all. They're just goofy and excitable but that doesn't mean they're dumb. I trained my Golden's easily they instantly go to crates on command and can walk themselves home. They also know the standard sit, lay, roll over, and stay commands.
I have a yellow lab that might as well be a golden retriever with how much he sheds. I've never known a dog to shed as much as he does. I also recently got a 14 week old chocolate lab and she isn't very social right now and can't technically be walked until she's almost 5 months old and had both vaccinations, but I'll be taking her out well before then. She's not very playful either, but it's probably because she's settling in. The first day she would just sit in a corner and wouldn't come near me, but was okay once I picked her up and had her on my lap 🙄.

I have a Golden. He needs at least 90 min a day of walks, ideally a chance to swim a few times a week (these are working water dogs after all) and chance to play with other doggos on a regular basis. There are highly trainable, but if their energy needs not met, they will not focus. I just got used to occasionally having hair on my food, no matter how iften i brush and vacuum. Oh, and their world us full of best friends they haven't yet met. It's like living with a fuzzy, bouncing ball of pure sunshine...that steal socks.
Best decision I ever made was getting my golden, she saved our family after my dad died. Lucy we love you!
Are all labs in general, the same? We recently adopted a chocolate lab female. What can I expect from her, behavior wise?
same.Labs are just basic version of Goldens.
@@DeadpanVT I didn't say they were dmb though
Thanks, she's getting spayed in 2 days🙂
Fantastic information.
That excitement can break bones. My friend who owns a golden had it happen to her
I have a yellow lab that might as well be a golden retriever with how much he sheds.
Fantastic editing on this my goodness I got a good laugh
Reason number 4: Golden Retrievers are very prone to cancer. Estimates suggest that around 60% of golden retrievers develop cancer, which is about twice the rate seen in other dog breeds
*Still love my golden floofballs though
They are heaven sent❤
The best dog I ever had was a golden! The soul of a mellow surfer and a heart of gold
That boop is so cute
So the calmer version of a husky
1. They smell
Still want one
Awwwwnnn lovely breed..... Love the fact they get excited seeing come back 😊😊😊😊😊
I’ve seen some really bad and aggressive goldens and my god it breaks my heart.
These are more reasons to get a golden. Best family dog we have ever owned.
My friend's cane corso is like this, but only with exactly three people. Me (because I used to walk him for my friends), my friend, and her fiance. Everyone else, he will attack on sight. They don't have people over often
