Years ago I went to a Robin of Sherwood convention with my brother. This is my only claim to fame. Somehow we got talking to Ray and he said come on over and let me by both of you a drink. I have never forgotten his kindness, humour and banter, he is so down to earth and such a likeable man to be around. I first remember watching him in a series called 'Fox' in the seventies and he played one of the brothers, and Peter Vaughan played his father. I have followed him ever since.
"Nil by Mouth", "The War Zone", "Sexy Beast" are great performances. Not to mention the rest. What an icon. Great interview. Many thanks.

Ray has always been my favourite actor, right up there with the greatest. If he’s in it, I’ll watch it. Such a natural talent.

Really love this - grazie mille. My family moved over from Barga in Northern Tuscany in the 1890's and lived in the area around Virginia & Columbia Road. We call ourselves Britalian because it's great to switch between the two cultures like Nev and Anna do. Most of the family has moved out of London now, but I'm gonna make an effort to pop in next time I'm down - we're Spurs though, are we still welcome! 😅

Anna and Nev are naturals at interviewing; I think it helps that they know the people they're talking to, so it's like a normal conversation Down The Caff. I love Ray and I've watched his film career from the start. Great episode; best thing I've seen on RUclips for ages, and I'm looking forward to the chat with Kevin Rowland, one of the few people who dress up to go to E Pellicci.

The funniest video I've seen in ages. Brilliant. We used to call steak suet puddings, " Babies heads" in the army. Not sure why, but I still call them than now.
He had a few pints with us in The Clarence Pub , Rusholme Manchester in the early 80's . He was working in a play or something in Town . He just walked into the old vault we all used to drink in , stood at the bar and had a few beers . Chatted about football - City = West Ham - Top Guy .

I'm in Australia but born in London - and jealous of the of the pud shown here! Probably a simple msge to others - don't ever be ashamed of your London or English roots - a mix of all cultures and we all have a lot to be proud of! There's many places that could learn a few lessons. Peace and love.

That was wonderful! Brilliant interview with an icon that I love and have grown up with since watching Scum as a 17 year old on it's release in '79. As one that visits London 2/3 times a year from Edinburgh, I always try and pop in for a few pints at the Salmon & Ball. I'm going to make a point in popping in for some nosh at Pellicci's the next time I visit the East end. God bless to all three of you.

*New Subscriber* : That was great. Here in Czech Republic there are still local places to eat good hearty food. My pizza guy ( from Grosseto ) is right beside my apartment building. Once a month he drives his van down to Milano to pick up authentic Italian deli food and wine and the most perfect ham. Funny Ray having to kiss Angelina all day. I had to have a meeting with model-like girl from Marketing for 2 hours, and my girlfriend ( who works in the same building ) wasn't too happy about it ha ha

Wicked.. I went to visit family in East London and passed by this shop numerous times.
Managed to speak to Tony, I believe he is an older gentleman who's worked there 54 years.
2 years after the 1 year after the krays got sentenced.
This place is legendary
Tony is a cousin
It is crazy to think that such a legend grew up in the area that I was also raised in (Plaistow), and that my dad probably went to school with him at one point because they are the same age and from the same area.

When you talk to people a bit older than Ray, then you realise that prior to world war 2 and just after, boxing was actually a school lesson in the east end of london,, on the curriculum for all boys, no ifs or buts. I believe this was fairly rare as I dont know of it being mandatory anywhere else.
