Another category he forgot to add: RELIABILITY....that Nissan can last 25 years or FOREVER if well maintained. I don't care how well you maintain that Chrysler 300, you will start having problems after 6 years.
Hey assnut! Have you owned a Nissan for 25 or forever? Or is the 300 that you've owned and had problems after six years? Or are you just speaking about something you read? Specify dumbshit!
For a few minutes I thought the thumbnail was a picture of a really jacked up nissan maxima that was probably side swiped, cut in half, and poorly aligned when welded back together.
I have a 2016 Chrysler 300C and I absolutely love it I used to own a 2000 Chrysler 300M that car also very dependable car good on gas I had no issues with it I went around looking at different cars and I absolutely fell in love with the new Chrysler 300 I like it because it is a luxury sports sedan with plenty of power personally myself I find the 300 to be more attractive looking than the Nissan Maxima
Kyle Flener There's nothing luxury or sporty about a Chrysler 300. It's a regular large sedan. A good looking one. It's never listed in luxury vehicle sales lists.
I have an Avalon with 225k miles. Still going strong great ride and features. I have heard the Maxima is similar in reliabilty. Cheap to repair like a Camry. Had a Chrysler once never again just cheap everywhere you look.Never own a Chevy again. Might try a Ford if they can match the luxury and ride of the Maxima and Avalon. Basically if you dont drive a Ford truck Fords service sucks. IMO
What is wheelslip like in the Maxima, being FWD? I've driven a lot of Ford Focus' and Kuga's lately and found they lose front wheel traction on take-off quite easily when you're accelerating normally, is it the with the Maxima especially being a powerful V6?
This might be a fair comparison depending on what you are looking for in a car. I just purchased a Maxima SL. However, for years, I thought the 300 was the hottest looking car on the road. It screams classic luxury. I was born in Detroit and grew up in a Chrysler family, when I say all my relatives worked for Chrysler, including my father, that is no lie. So obviously we drove nothing but Chryslers. My last car was a Nissan, and I am sold on the brand for the reliability factor....I can't say that for Chrysler! Sorry! I love my Maxima, it's stylish, sexy, muscular, commands attention, and in 10 years it will still drive like new. You could probably have done a Toyota Camry comparison, which would have made more sense, but the Camry is way too conservative looking for my taste, and honestly, if I don't like the looks of a car, you'll never get me to test drive it.
I'm glad I looked at this video! I fell I love with the Nissan Maxima sl 2016. I'm going to buy one on Sept. 18th week black on black, what I don't remember when driving it was that, say if its hot outside does it keep the heat from scorching your legs from the sun..I know some Nissans feel like the sun rips right through the window when they are up ( we have that car) and when I went shopping for a car I wanted quality windows from the" heat" and "noise" that brings the other part "Noise" is it pretty quiet, keeping the wind and motor noise out...if you have the music on can you hear it outside when the doors are closed and windows up? I really want a quiet car! and for inside since I am partially deaf in my right ear is it quiet inside so I can hear everyone talking compared to the lower 25,000 Nissans from 2013-14? Thanks for your comparision but from the start I had to have the Maxima SL That car is all that, and more, Thank you in advance for your answer. I will subscribe to your channel here on RUclips!
I wish you would have gone with the engine driving characteristics for the "Engine" category versus calling it a tie because the specs are similar. I imagine the engines feel differently when driving the cars, not the least of which is due to the weight difference.
Funny thing happened at the rental car company... over a 2 week period I had 3 rental cars... a Nissan Maxima, a Dodge Charger and a Ford Fusion. The Maxima was fun to drive but cheaply built (yes, I was honestly surprised) The Charger turned more heads by far but was even cheaper built than the Maxima. The humble, basic rental level Fusion was by far the superior car. Solid feel, quietest, most comfortable and just had that feel of quality that the other two lacked. Note that all were nearly new, very low miles.
Hey Jason I love your channel. I have a quick question for you - 2016 Maxima SR vs. 2016 Acura TLX SH-AWD, for your money which one would you choose and why?
I'm proud owner of 16 sv maxima.. I can say it's the best for that price range you can get all the base Germans that's it.. And here in Canada you can find beamers everywhere.. And this thing always turns head.. I get mad compliments from people.. Overall this thing looks way more classy than regular 30k Chrysler
Yesterday I bought a new 2016 300 s. My first American car and my first RWD sedan. I was hoping the Chrysler would take this win, but again, I did not test drive a Nissan Maxima because of the only CVT option.
+Acuravigor47 I looked at the 300s when I was car shopping too. Then a buddy of mine told me to check out the new Máximas. I was hesitant but I did anyway and WOW! it blew me away. I'm constantly getting looks and compliments. car is just super legit!
Javier Herrera That's cool, I am digging my new 2016 300s in dark gun metal grey. Beats audio thumps and the 300HP Pentastar lights up my rear wheels pretty easily. Burnouts are simple too. I like the new maxima a lot, just wish it was RWD or AWD and not look exactly lie a Rogue or Pathfinder front clip.
In the first category, Nissan should take it, an around view monitoring system is enough to take a point! I would say is 5 to Nissan and 3 to Chrysler!
Does the 2015 Rogue have the same zero gravity seats as the Maxima and Altima? I tried the ones in the Altima and those felt much better than the ones in our Rogue.
Good comparison, you sold me on the max when you said it had a better power/weight than the WRX. Would have been nice if they had an all/rear wheel drive option tho, guess you gotta go up to Infiniti for that
it's not fair to compare an experience 35 years ago (in a 5 year old LeBaron no less) to a new Chrysler. Gee, I can remember a relative that had a bad experience with a late 70's Datsun (Nissan) too, but that has nothing to do with a modern Maxima! My sister bought a new 300 (Chrysler, not 300Z) and it's a fantastic car. The CVT equipped Maxima is a joke...Nissan had to extend the drive train warranty because the trannys were failing out of warranty (60 to 70k miles).
I own a 16 maxima SR and for the 300 to be even close to the fun factor of the maxima, you would need the hemi and it still would be more fun to drive.
I don't understand the point of this video, in terms of actually test driving the cars. Video seemed like someone comparing the dealer brochure for both vehicles and choosing a winner based on specs, not actual driving experience and testing.
+Josh Kim I don't think people should select cars completely based on the driving experience. That said: Fun to drive (subjective), fuel economy (did my own tests), interior (seat comfort, intuitiveness), practicality (rear legroom from the perspective of someone 6'1"), visibility, and NVH (my own tests) all had portions which could only be concluded by driving the vehicle, which I explained in the video. As in 6/10 required more than just a brochure.
+Engineering Explained I see what you are saying, but some of those tests like legroom were still based on somewhat subjective tests, which could still be inferred from reading specs. the interior review was dusappointing, fpr example. rather than comparing overall fit and finish, details, feeling of materials and buttons, it was just a comparison of specs and not much else. Sorry if this came off as bashing the video, was just hoping for a bit more insightful commentary and reviewing of the cars. I know you are no motor trend, but I just felt like there was a bit missing. Still a fan of your engineering videos though!
+Bryan Doherty Imagine a gasoline engine with ultra-high pressure direct injection and a really high compression ratio, which renders the spark plugs useless since the air fuel mixture auto ignites due to high temperature/pressure in the cylinder, and replace gasoline fuel with diesel fuel. You can also Google the difference between the Otto cycle and the Diesel cycle. Would be cool if Jason made a video about it.
+Dragan Celan Jason does have some older videos that talk about engines. I'm 100% certain he explains how diesel engines work in one of his videos. Although it might be a smaller section in a video talking about gasoline engines, I can't remember.
I always watch and enjoy your very educational videos. Quick question, I know this video is a bit old now, but how would you compare the Maxima to the Charger R/T? Thanks.
I have a 2014 300C, and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned in over 50 yrs of driving! I have the 3.6L v-6 and it has plenty of power( 300hp) along with lots of luxury, the clear winner for me!
Great Video! I absolutely love NISSAN. I still have my Nissan Sentra. I've had it 10 years. Off course I had issues but it's a great car. I was thinking about getting a Maxima; however, I totally hate the body style of the new Maxima's, they just don't look good. The Chrysler Body Style is way better, and it comes with an AWD system. Why doesn't NISSAN make the Max AWD...I don't know. I would definitely get the Chrysler but not totally abandon NISSAN, I would get the GTR.
My car was rear ended recently. The rental company gave me a 300c. I drive it for a week and really considered buying one. Then I drove a Maxima SR and knew within 10 minutes that was my next car.
The 300 is more of a Luxury Cruiser. The Maxima is just a regular Family Sedan. If the 300 was FWD as well then I bet it'd be more "fun" than it was in your test. Maybe the Charger would've fit better in this segment?
maybe I'm wrong but I noticed that the maxima didnt have paddle shifters. that's a huge feature missing for a car dedicated to performance. comes standard in almost every sports sedan these days
I've owned both (currently a 300S). My Chrysler turns more heads than you can imagine. Women do double-takes, guys try to catch me at the light, get a look at who's driving. Never happened in my Maxima. In fact, I'm going to go for a drive right now.
What is the point of MPG rating if it is always going to be off? Why do manufacturers hurt their sales by giving much lower ratings than what is possible? It just makes no sense to me. Example being my Abarth. 28 city 34 Hwy. I realistically get 26-27 city, 41 hwy (cruising at 65-70mph!). If I saw the car rated at 41-mpg hwy which is what it actually gets, I would have easily been sold.
+Chance Dobbins they need to give realistic expectations. For example: someone living in Phoenix Arizona has no chance of getting the same Power or fuel efficiency as someone living in Anchorgae Alaska, since it's much hotter in Phoenix. Same thing goes for altitude, (fuel qualitiy to an extent) and driving style. If they rate their car better than it actually performs they're gonna get a lot of slack or even "break a law" (not sure about that)
turbo cars are a lot harder to hit their MPG ratings and need to be driven out of boost for the most part. also you're only losing 2mpg at most. stop complaining, it won't make a difference.
+luigi90210 mpg ratings just aren't an "exact science", I personally don't even give a damn what the exact rating for a car is. I don't get why americans even care about fuel efficiency, fuel is cheap in the U.S
+Joel Sägesser Sure fuel is cheap here in the US but if you could save a few thousand bucks per year why not? As for the video. The 300C is a big heavy car with the aerodynamics of a brick but it's rated better hwy mpg than the Maxima? In reality the Maxima gets better fuel efficiency on the hwy. Some people when buying a car look at those numbers and would buy the 300C over the Maxima only to be fooled. My question is how do they get this data and why do manufactures like Nissan hurt themselves by under-rating the car?
I think if you write the numbers (torque, engine, price..) on the video while you talk it would be easier to compare. Anyway, it's a very good comparason !
Comparing the slightly better power to weight ratio of the front drive Maxima to the all wheel drive WRX and S4 doesn't really mean much. Anyways, the Maxima is still slower than both of them.
Kcufdurt Tnuc , I totally agree about the CVT, I was considering the Maxima , but as soon as I learned about the transmission, I bought a 300C instead and don’t regret it!
if u would try to make a review of isf it would srsly be very helpfull thx :) and just if u can rcf review also and compared them both. but srsly just want isf review.
Owned 5 maximas, but much prefer the 300 in 300S trim with hemi and 8 speed auto! The CVT in the Maxima is junk. Their is a dramatic difference in fun to drive between the regular 300 you tested and the 300S. A 300S model kills the Maxima.
Charles T Not everyone is caught up in mechanical stuff like that. Some people have other criteria for deciding what vehicle they will choose. And they do so in their right minds.
+CU Tiger You kids say the darndest things. You realize that just because you make a list of things and tally up the points that it doesn't mean one is better than the other right? You can just weight comfort or style (which isn't measured here) over one of the others and you suddenly have this magical reason to prefer one over the other. Being heavier is just one metric. Under performing in one metric doesn't make it "crappy" especially when it's identical in other regards.
+CJBMAGGOT94 Its all subjective. I judge a car purely on performance and how fun it is to drive. Many other people would rather have a car that only needs to be filled up with gas once a month. Others want a comfortable luxurious ride. You can't call any vehicle "worse" than another in that regard. Unless you're saying that chrysler cars are shoddily built, in which case I'm gonna ask you to prove it to me.
greenzoid2 Prove it to you? I don't have to prove it, Chrysler does that themselves. Quality has and always will have shoddy craftsmanship. Just look at ratings and owner satisfaction surveys. Chrysler 200, and Fiat 500 are rated worst cars to own. Yeah interior quality and all that nonsense has taken a leap in the quality aspect, but so has every other manufacturer and still lacks in a lot of area's. What I said is not subjective it is fact. You would be dumb to buy a Chrysler product over any other manufacturer unless you got it for free...
I just spent a week in a rental 300. The plastic door panels buzzed at 75 mph. So yes, it's more comfortable and quiet, unless its cheap materials start chirping. My eight-year-old Maxima simply handles and performs better.
Fair assessment, I can see why a young guy like you may opt for the Nissan. I would still stick with my 2015 Chrysler 300C hemi for performance, style, comfort, and roominess and with the MDS about 30 or better mpg on the road. Everyday driving not so good about 19mpg. Good review overall.
Okay, the Altima and Accord I can see you blowing out as those might've been 4-cyl configurations. But I can't buy the fact that in your 200s you smoked a Max with 290hp. I don't believe it bro.
You screwed up on your review..... In another review you said that the 300 because it was rear wheel drive had a better driving more enjoyable ride than front wheel drive.... Since the Maxima is strictly front wheel drive that would mean that it's turning is not going to be as efficient or easier like with the rear wheel drive so I think you messed up on this in regards to claiming that the Maxima is a better drive when clearly it is not four to three 300 and that's by your own standards I think you forgot about what you said in your past videos LOL.... Another thing I think the gas thing is suspect.... Because a lighter vehicle is going to be easier to be pushed around by wind forces on the highway versus a heavier machine.... I know that for a fact having been an ex truck driver moving different weights
+Engineering Explained I think he's basing it on overall interior volume. The new 8th generation Maxima (2016+) and the last 7th generation Maxima (2009 - 2014) had smaller interior volumes than the last three generations of the Altima (between the 2002 model and the 2015 model), which was "huge" in comparison, despite being mid-size.
+Engineering Explained The Maxima is only 1.3 inches longer. So length-wise, it's not much longer. But there's like 10-12 other measurements that EPA use to determine car classification...trunk size, wheel base, interior cargo and etc...
From an enthusiasts perspective, I find it a little odd that you are comparing the performance of the base model 300 rather than the one with the v8. I can understand wanting a "fair" comparison, but anybody with performance as a priority will be comparing the v8 and not the v6.
Yes and I also know these are big heavy cars, compared to cars half their size each additional pound creates half the difference it would havre made on a lighter car.
Id take the Maxima
+Juan Lara CHRYSLER FOR LIFE
why does everyone hate on Chryslers reliability? I've owned several Chrysler products and never had an issue with reliability.
Because they live in the past and are ignorant.
Depends on the years
Another category he forgot to add: RELIABILITY....that Nissan can last 25 years or FOREVER if well maintained. I don't care how well you maintain that Chrysler 300, you will start having problems after 6 years.
Not so.
Ghana Mafia I'm assuming you are speaking from experience...
I'll assume a woman gave birth to you.

A good description of my photoshop skills.
+bmwmsport11
haha i thought i was the only one who saw it and was like wtf?
I peeped that too. I had to do a double-take then triple-take before I just read the title.

I love that jab at bad drivers at the end. Great comparison video.
Take the 300 if you mostly drive long distance on highways.
Yep - when it rains - just turn the wipers on! LOL Hey - great review, thanks a lot. Enjoyed your comments on both vehicles.
Both are great, although I'm going towards the Nissan more

The front end up that Maxima is Fugly. What did they do?
good review. actually can you do a review on the BRZ further explaining the power weight ratio?
I have a full review of the BRZ if you do a quick search on my channel. :) And the FRS. And their differences.

Does the 2015 Rogue have the same zero gravity seats as the Maxima and Altima? I tried the ones in the Altima and those felt much better than the ones in our Rogue.
+Hector O I drove a new Rogue with the updated seats "zero gravity." They're wonderful.
300 with the V6 is rental car trim. Horrendous resale value on them too. Add that as a major negative (if buying new).
Say what you may, but it still rises like a German car. Japanese cars don't.

Yeah maxima for the win ❤️
If you were to replace the OEM tires on both of these cars, the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Performance All-Season is the best choice.
I own a 16 maxima SR and for the 300 to be even close to the fun factor of the maxima, you would need the hemi and it still would be more fun to drive.

I would definitely take the 300 over the Maxima any day
How do the Nissan seats compare to the Volvo V60 you drove seats?
How were you driving to get 36 in the maxima? Depending on the day I get anywhere between 22 and 10
Great review as always, this isn't really a question related to the review. But would you be able to do a video explaining how a Diesel engine works
These new maximas mop the floor with your 300
Love the comparison. Some on-screen graphics would make this twice as good.
When is Nissan going to give you an Xterra to review? I really want to see what you have to say.
What about the Taurus?

In my opinion, those are the best Maximas ever made. My dad had an SE with the forest green ext, omg bro. I've loved Maximas ever since.
Just got my 2016 Maxima 2 days ago. I love it. It turns heads and great MPG for a car with that much power.
The 300 is more of a Luxury Cruiser. The Maxima is just a regular Family Sedan.

maybe I'm wrong but I noticed that the maxima didnt have paddle shifters. that's a huge feature missing for a car dedicated to performance. comes standard in almost every sports sedan these days
Correct, only the SR trim Maxima (sport) comes with paddles.
All you'd be doing "shifting" a CVT is slowing it down.
Good for engine braking, but not much else.
"I don't know what to do when it raaaiiins!" Haha, you had a California Driver moment there. ;D
maxima is hands down more car per dollar. but to each his own.
Are you trying to choose a rental car?
Would it be fair to compare the new Miata to the FRS/BRZ twins? If so I think that video should be next! Nice job!
+Hobogoku1 If I get my hands on a Miata I will absolutely do a comparison.
I've owned both (currently a 300S). My Chrysler turns more heads than you can imagine. Women do double-takes, guys try to catch me at the light, get a look at who's driving. Never happened in my Maxima. In fact, I'm going to go for a drive right now.
Take a rear wheel drive HEMI 300 for a spin and tell me that Nissan is more fun. I dare you
chysler 300 bodies that bird looking Maxima by far
Can you do a video about the Hyundai Genesis Coupe?
You're doing the vast majority of the video in the Maxima. Nuff said 😆
If money were no object I'd get a 300 with the V8
+Unbearable Pain seriously bro? if you have unlimited amount of money, you'd buy a Chrysler? i'd get a Ferrari La Ferrari.
Puthearith Chea I meant if money were no object BETWEEN THESE TWO CARS.
Bro.
hahaha okay, you win. enjoy your FIFTY THOUSAND Dollars Chrysler. I'm sure the depreciation isn't too bad
Puthearith Chea Better a 50k Chrysler that's actually pretty damn good than a "sporty" CVT Maxima.
i never said i'd go for the maxima. if i would dump my hard earned $50k, it would be on a ford raptor
Nice comparo review...Maxima is just too...you know what I was going to say...
Why don't you work on the integra anymore? I really like those videos!!!
As far as the seat technology is concerned. It comes from the French car Peugeot. I used to like Nissan but I think I have to give it to Chrysler.
+Chance Dobbins It's EPA ratings. They all undergo the same style testing, and the rating comes from those tests.
I was loving the Maxima untill you said cvt
Kcufdurt Tnuc , I totally agree about the CVT, I was considering the Maxima , but as soon as I learned about the transmission, I bought a 300C instead and don’t regret it!
CVT. There you go! Hahaha
@@charlesjacobsen9895 the maxima literally had 300 HP!!!
if u would try to make a review of isf it would srsly be very helpfull thx :) and just if u can rcf review also and compared them both. but srsly just want isf review.
I had a 2004 maxima and timing chain rattling noise problem
I completely regret this purchase.
Maxima 🥰
A large point for me when comparing these two is that the Maxima just looks so much nicer and more aggressive than the 300.
That's subjective.
Indeed it is very subjective. I like the Maxima more but the 300 is a nice looking car too.
magnaxilorius r u kiddding like the 300 is way better
Vafel the chrysler brand doesn't make srt8 anymore sooo....
Maxima is faster and nicer
You forgot #11 Durability. Which car/make will last you 10+years?
I see more 10 year old 300s vs maximas
The One I see other way around
Owned 5 maximas, but much prefer the 300 in 300S trim with hemi and 8 speed auto! The CVT in the Maxima is junk. Their is a dramatic difference in fun to drive between the regular 300 you tested and the 300S. A 300S model kills the Maxima.
even the 2016 maxima cvt??
cvt Maxima 2016+ is upgraded improved Steel belt inside better ratios. More durable
Who in their right mind would take a FWD over a RWD car given the option????
becuase the maxima is a superior car
what does that matter if the Nissan being fwd is the more fun car to drive, it's waste that the 300 is rwd.
It depends on where you live and the climate.
Charles T Not everyone is caught up in mechanical stuff like that. Some people have other criteria for deciding what vehicle they will choose. And they do so in their right minds.
Stevie G true
Why didn't you use the 200?
because of 200 compete with a Nissan Altima not the maxima
Again, why bother with Chrysler? Crappy cars ...
+rorschach775 Chrysler has always made shitty vehicles. Only exception is the Dodge Ram with the Cummins.
CJBMAGGOT94 I don't believe you. I've never heard anything bad about chrysler's vehicles.
how is the engine power a tie, the Maxima has more HP.....
+Javier Herrera maxima would also kill the 300 in a drag.. lol
+Tek Rekt heck yeah it would!
+Javier Herrera I have a new maxima. I love the power it has and how many cars fail to pass me up lol
+Tek Rekt yup I agree my Maxima has surprised and broken many hearts!
+Javier Herrera lmao yeah that's the best way to put it. it's a sleeper
I just spent a week in a rental 300. The plastic door panels buzzed at 75 mph. So yes, it's more comfortable and quiet, unless its cheap materials start chirping. My eight-year-old Maxima simply handles and performs better.
You don’t pay anywhere near sticker for a Chrysler, they are heavily discounted. Win Chrysler.
In my 2015 200s I've blown out an Altima, New Accord, 2014 Maxima so I'm like what's next is finding someone with the 2016 Maxima to take on
Okay, the Altima and Accord I can see you blowing out as those might've been 4-cyl configurations. But I can't buy the fact that in your 200s you smoked a Max with 290hp. I don't believe it bro.
@@JokerG16 hes all talk lmao
@@JokerG16 i have videos of keeping up with the srt8 chrysler 300 in my 2012 maxima (modded)
I know that for a fact having been an ex truck driver moving different weights
pleaseeeeeeee do a Lancer EVO review
+luismm10 I am working on getting one in, I'll do my best!
This should've been a Comparison between the Nissan Maxima and the Chrysler 200.
+Traviie Smith Chrysler 200 competes in the mid-size segment, with the Nissan Altima.
CVT takes the fun away. Win Chrysler.
I murked a Chrysler in a race yesterday...way better
*Nissan better
300 is a man's car...
Very true but the Maxima should be in Mid size territory as well because its honestly not a full size car.
+Traviie Smith What makes you say that? It's a full-size. Altima is mid.
I wouldn't say that. It actually competes with the Avalon, Taurus, Charger, Impalla, and so on.
The Maxima is stunningly ugly.
No it's not the Chrysler is cheap and ugly also your ugly
Definitely the Max than the box haha
300s
maxima! i have one!
The Maxima has a CVT and the 300 is way better looking, end of comparison.
Dodge good to push off the clif
VQ power!!!
We already knew who won by the beginning since you only drove the Maxima. Try to make it less obvious ! :p
You can get a pretty powerful engine in the 200.
From an enthusiasts perspective, I find it a little odd that you are comparing the performance of the base model 300 rather than the one with the v8. I can understand wanting a "fair" comparison, but anybody with performance as a priority will be comparing the v8 and not the v6.
You do know weight is a huge factor in performance
Yes and I also know these are big heavy cars, compared to cars half their size each additional pound creates half the difference it would havre made on a lighter car.
you did not say any thing about the design, I think the maxima is absolutly better in design both of the interior and exterior.
