- Since October of 2022, I have been planning to solo hike the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB). This is a 110 mile hike that loops around Mont Blanc in the European alps, through France, Switzerland, and Italy. This initial video highlights the lead up to the trip, my journey from Cleveland to Europe, and my first few days (pre-hike) exploring Geneva and Chamonix.
As you'll see, things doesn't exactly go to plan... my checked bag, which contains almost all of my backpacking gear, got stuck at the JFK airport. Despite this, I was still able to enjoy the first few days for the most part.
Thanks for watching :) Subscribe if you'd like, and stay tuned for more videos of the TMB!

such a sweet moment with your family in the tent. So happy you have experienced this! I am traveling to Chamonix this August and you have given me a role model to follow!
Thank you for the kind comment! ☺️ I’m so excited for you to get to travel there later this year. I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time. It’s an awe-inspiring place!
Safe travels Mikhaila! Definitely will look forward to your vlogs from this trip. 110 miles WOW 🏃🏼♀️👍🏼
Spectacular footage!
Thank you!! I just calculated that it was over 260,000 steps (per my less than accurate iPhone at least). But it was a great adventure
What an adventure! Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! And more to come :)
I have great admiration for your adventurous spirit!
Thank you! 😊
Oh you poor thing, I am sorry this happened to you. When you were packing I wanted to reach through my laptop and tell you to carry your gear with you as it may not get there and then I saw it didn't. Especially a trip like this, no fun not having all those hiking things you need, but glad you had your shoes. I know Switzerland and France has tons of hiking shops close at hand, so you could buy more stuff, but wow, the expense of that and the stress as well. We travel overseas yearly and it can get so messed up with storms, so this year with our TMB, most everything is in the backpack, but a small bag with poles and some plain ol stuff goes in the belly. You were a good sport about it, it builds character right?! Happy travels to you!
Yes, I’m really so lucky that it ended up working out okay. There was a day there where I thought I may have to cancel the whole trek. This summer I’m backpacking in Europe again and planning to do the same as you - bring almost everything as a carry on minus the poles, pocket knife, city clothes, etc. which I will check. Hope you have a wonderful time on the TMB!!
@@mikhailalynn, I am now watching your Part 1 video, looked warm, far cry from long ago over there. A few years ago in Innsbrũck, Austria in May is was 93 degrees, so prepare for all that. Good to hear packing will be different, you just never know. Even when we (daughter & sometimes husband) go, we do take 2 packed bags, but split ALL items into those two bags, just in case one bag doesn't make it. So, back to your video!
@@kayaker9912 It was definitely warm most of the days I was hiking, but not too bad with sunscreen. Thanks for watching :)
Looking forward to the rest of your videos
Thanks!
Can't wait to see how this goes...I was feeling your anxiety waiting for the lost luggage!
Thank you! A little more anxiety to come… but also an incredible journey
What an adventure. Right from the start! Hope you get your luggage soon!
Yes, thank you!!
It's funny how when traveling some things happen to work in your favor...others, not so much. But you handled it far better than I would have. Lemons? Lemonade.
It really is! 🍋
Awesome video. Incredible scenery. Too bad you had the luggage snafu. Holy smokes, 110 miles! Do Army Rangers do that?
Haha I’m not sure! Thank you!
The airline connection is one of the risks of traveling. Especially, for backpacking trips in which we have to check luggage. It happened to us last 2016 on our trip to Patagonia. Our flight from Seattle to Atlanta was delayed but we still made it on the flight to Buenos Aires after running between gates in ATL. The Delta ground crew even told me to relax because I was panting. I asked her about the checked luggage and she told me there was no way I was faster than Delta's luggage transfer system in ATL. I even got a notification on the Delta app that the luggage made it on the plane. Well, upon arrival in Buenos Aires, no luggage. Both the lady in ATL and the Delta app lied. Our hotel was great and kind enough to deal with Delta about our luggage. They were the ones constantly on the phone calling Delta. Good thing, we have two full days in BA before our flight to El Calafate. Our luggage made it to BA the night before our flight to Patagonia.
So many similar themes to my story! They told me I’d have plenty of time to make my connecting flight after we landed and were taxiing to the gate, but if I hadn’t run like a crazy person through the airport, I definitely would have missed my flight to Geneva. And I heard the same thing - no way you beat the checked bag, but I did. I was also told on the phone at one point after calling to check in on my luggage status that they had confirmation it had arrived in Geneva, but I could see by the air tag it was still at JFK 🤦🏼♀️ thank goodness for air tags. Asking the hotel for help was a good idea. I hadn’t thought of that, but will keep that in mind if that happens again (though hopefully it won’t)!
@@mikhailalynn Wow, looks like it's a Delta game plan.
Hope you enjoy your trip! I'm also planning to do this in September, would you be able to share your itinerary / tips and tricks? Thanks! :)
Thank you! That's awesome you will be going later this year. I can try to put something together to share regarding itinerary and tips. Definitely know if there's anything specific you're wondering!
It's November 2023. I just tried yesterday to sign up for huts for a early September 2024 hike.
Believe it or not, but 3/4 of the huts are full already.
It looks like 2025 for me.
Wow! That's earlier than I would have expected. What a bummer...
hi we cant find available refuge for anticlockwise route. do you think clockwise route is worth to go? Thank you :)
I liked hiking clockwise and would do it again. I will say if you start in Les Houches that first climb to La Brevent is brutal and definitely a shock to the system. For this reason, guidebooks recommend different starting points for people hiking clockwise.
