Mammoth Cave National Park | solo car camping trip
In this video - a Friday morning off work, a wedding in Columbus, and a road trip to see Mammoth Cave for the first time! This was also my first solo car camping trip since renovating my Honda CRV car camper :)
A few days before my trip, Mammoth Cave was ranked as the "3rd most disappointing US attraction," but I would disagree. I was very impressed and had a great time!
Music courtesy of Mojang Studios in this one because the cave made me feel like it was real-world Minecraft ⛏️😅

update on our (first) garden
Просмотров 164Месяц назад
It's been a few months, and our garden has had both struggles and successes. In this video, I give a brief update on what we've experienced so far! More to come (hopefully)! 👩🏼🌾🥦 If you have any gardening tips, please leave them in the comments!
convinced my parents to go camping

My parents joined me for a night of camping at East Harbor State Park. While this is something they wouldn't normally do, I think both of them actually had a good time! My brother's joined in for various parts of the weekend adventure - kayaking and a bonfire. Austin and I also had a chance to do some early morning birding, and we saw a mink! Enjoy 😊🤍⛺️
solo hiking the dipsea trail while visiting San Francisco
Просмотров 591Месяц назад
I first hiked the Dipsea Trail in March of 2017 with a group of friends while at a conference in San Francisco. The variety of landscapes covered on one route left me feeling excited and inspired. While in town for a wedding this past weekend, I found time to return to this longtime favorite. The hike felt new in many ways, in part because the green hills I remembered were now a rich gold due t...
lake erie birding | roseate tern (first in ohio!?), american avocet, green heron
Просмотров 216Месяц назад
Austin and I went birding in Huron this past weekend. The highlight was seeing a roseate tern, which is normally found along the Atlantic ocean. It's possible that this is the first roseate tern to be spotted in Ohio and maybe even the furthest inland overall. Other good finds included the American avocet, purple martins, and green herons. I also snuck in a few of Austin's piping plover picture...
stranded on north manitou island | maddog's first backpacking trip
Просмотров 9062 месяца назад
Last summer, my plans for a solo backpacking trip on North Manitou Island in Michigan fell through, so I was excited to reattempt this year. I invited (or she invited herself, or it was simultaneous?) my friend Madison to join, as she had been looking to go on her first backpacking trip this summer. Our time on the island was everything we'd hoped for (though maybe a little too rainy); that is,...
solo hiking the Skye Trail | i had to quit halfway through
Просмотров 8722 месяца назад
As soon as I completed the Tour du Mont Blanc last year, I knew I had to start planning another long distance backpacking trip. The Skye Trail, which is located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, seemed to be the perfect next solo adventure. There were many challenges during the first few days of my hike, including one of the wildest windstorms (certainly the wildest I'd experienced from inside m...
solo travels in Edinburgh | preparing to hike the Skye Trail
Просмотров 2562 месяца назад
In May, I traveled to Scotland for the first time. My primary motivation was my plan to hike the Skye Trail, an unmarked, 80-mile trail on the Isle of Skye. Before beginning my hike, I stayed in Edinburgh for a few days, which I spent exploring the beautiful city! 🏴🤍🏙️
my modular Honda CRV car camper setup | how to build as an amateur
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.3 месяца назад
I’ve been sleeping in my Honda CRV on road trips for the past few years, but my setup has historically been quite uncomfortable. To make future travels more enjoyable, I decided to build two units to create a comfortable bed for me (and a friend). The units are modular to allow for ultimate flexibility in how I’m able to use my CRV. Hopefully this video provides helpful insight or ideas to appl...
we planted a garden (ft. only a few rookie mistakes)

My brother bought a house last fall that had an overgrown little garden patch in the backyard. I'd always wanted to try having a garden, and my dad had previously enjoyed gardening as a kid with his mom, so we decided to join forces to turn the patch into a garden this year. This video captures the whole process, including weeding and prepping the ground in October, testing the soil's nutrient ...
half marathon race weekend vlog | Pittsburgh 2024
Просмотров 4994 месяца назад
After months of training, I ran the Pittsburgh half marathon! It was exciting to get to run this course for a second time (previously completed in 2018) because this time around, I felt so much more prepared. I was able to maintain a good pace throughout the race and crossed the finish line in under 2 hours, meeting my personal goal! I couldn't have asked for a better race day, and it was such ...
final weeks of half marathon training

This is my third and final half marathon training video! I'm so proud of all the work I put into training for this race, and I'm very appreciative of all the support from those of you who've followed along. The Pittsburgh half marathon will be over in less than one week, which is just crazy! See you again after the 13.1 miles! 🏃🏼♀️🤍
sometimes you dip when birding
Просмотров 2685 месяцев назад
In the birding community, to "dip" means to not find the bird you were looking for and hoping to see (as I recently learned on our Sax-Zim Bog birding trip). Austin and I went birding on Easter morning. We didn't see the brown thrasher or the blue-headed vireo that we were hoping to find, but we did find plenty of other birds, including fox sparrows, horned grebes, bufflehead, and even a loon. ...
i'm really loving running right now

This is a continuation of my half marathon training series! As the race day approaches, I'm settling into my running routine and logging some of my longest training runs ever. There have been a few ups and downs (like getting bit by a dog on a run), but overall it's been exciting to see the improvement in my strength and stamina. Thank you for watching 😊🏃🏼♀️ Stay tuned for the final training v...
picking up my new 2024 Jeep Wrangler (ft. cherry blossoms in DC)
Просмотров 9295 месяцев назад
This past weekend, I flew to Washington DC to pick up the Jeep Wrangler I've been dreaming of for years! I've always loved driving, and I've wanted a vehicle with manual transmission ever since I learned to drive stick shift while getting my drivers license. This Jeep has so far surpassed all of my expectations (it's much smoother and quieter than the older Jeeps I've driven). While in DC, I de...

So glad you saw a moose! I love moose! 🫎
Me too!!
What a beautiful area!!
It was magical ✨
I was on the island the same time as you, it rained a lot and the flies were insane. And also crazy we had to wait another night.
Yes, it was such a wild weekend, yet still a great time!
Randomly stumbled upon this video whilst searching for hikes back here in New Zealand, I love the vibes! Been looking at a trip to the States later next year and have been figuring out what places to hike!
Glad you stumbled upon it 😊 There are so many cool places in the US, and such a variety of environments depending upon where you visit. Hiking in New Zealand would be amazing too... hopefully I'll get out there someday!
@mikhailalynn What would you recommend, I was looking around Oregon and California area but open to ideas! New Zealand is amazing! If you love your Fjords and Waterfalla
@@TomWilliamsDavid I’ll be going to Oregon for the first time later this month, so can’t speak to it just yet. I’d say if I had to recommend anywhere in the US, first rec would be Northern California (Yosemite, driving along coast north of San Francisco, Redwoods, Lassen Volcanic National Park). Second rec would be southwest (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce Canyon).
We use Mammoth Cave campground as a frequent layover camping stop on cross country drives...love it. Thanks for the video and for including the hawk!
It’s a nice campground!
That little cast iron pan was so cute! This looks like a great place to visit. I’ve never been to a cave before. Nice video :)
Yes, I would highly recommend checking it out!
Beautiful video !. Greetings from Coyoacán Mexico !.
Thank you! ☺️ I love Coyoacán!
Glad you got to go to Mammoth. I live just outside of Louisville. Let me guess. You got stuck on 75N just outside of town.?
71N! It was brutal! But loved the cave 😊
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you ☺️
Years ago we stopped for lunch on Wright Island, not very far from where you were at Rock Harbor, and out of no where you could literally feel the ground vibrate before we could see the moose. Great memory. Congrats to you for seeing a moose at Rock Harbor.
I’m so glad I got to see one before I left the island! 🫎
For a film crew of one, that's a lot of work. Well done! Isle Royale sunrises and sunsets are the best.
Thank you! I totally agree (sunrises especially 🌅)
Wait I'm so confused! I thought the ferry wasn't going out there this summer?? I'm jealous! I settled for South.
I think we were the only trip that went out this summer. They cancelled all of the ferry trips prior to ours, and we weren’t even sure if ours would go out or be cancelled until two days beforehand. Then they had troubles picking us up from the island… and I think they decided to cancel the rest. Heard south is great also!
Thanks so much for taking us Up North with you two! But the question is - did you find any Petoskey Stones?
Thank you for following along ☺️ I had to google what those were, but now that I know, I hope I do find one someday!
This was an awesome video(s) w/quality, great job! Sorry boat tour didn’t happen for ya, but i was happy the moose came to greet you off, what a wonderful trip ⛺️
Glad you enjoyed! The moose was such a great surprise for my final day
Your parents are a couple of good sports!! lol
Truly 😂😂
Good call on the dark-eyed junco! The weird cloud was from the Italian air force doing a show over the city that day
I love when the internet helps solve my mysteries 😊🇮🇹
Cool that you squeezed a hike in, thanks for sharing it with us!
I’m glad I was able to, also!
Thanks for the garden update! I tried a garden, once, wow, sure gave me a more appreciation for those that can do it.
Yes! It’s so much work. I’m grateful to be able to share the workload
My favorite way to eat kale is lightly blanched & drizzled with truffle oil. I then proceed to toss everything in a bowl to infuse the oil with oxygen. I'm kind of bougie, so I like to finish by garnishing the salad with pomegranate seeds. By this point in the process I've worked up quite an appetite, so I throw the kale into my compost recycler & drive to Arby's.
Haha that sounds delicious minus the Arby’s 😅
Despite the small glitch, glad this trip ended better than Scotland! I've only seen it from shore, but I bet you would enjoy Bois Blanc island in Lake Huron near Mackinaw. Sounds almost all rural and lots of hiking.
Me too! Definitely helps to have a friend by your side. I’ll have to add Bois Blanc Island to my list of places to see!
That so odd. I was thinking about asking you about the garden in the comments on your last Vlog. Felt like that was in intrusion though. Ha!
It was about time for an update! ☺️🥕
You ever try grounding yourself. Just take your shoes off and walk around outside. Do it for a week and see if you feel any better. I've been trying it and I definitely feel a difference for some reason. I know it's odd for me to mention this but just because you're sitting on the ground I thought of it. Thanks for the garden update.
I’ve read about that! I haven’t tried it formally, but I should
Your video is a great reminder of why we need wild and undeveloped places. Thanks also for sharing the close up bird pics, so nice! My wife just said, wow, Ohio has some pretty places!
Yes, I especially appreciate that we live so close to Lake Erie. Bird pics are all Austin’s of course! 😊
I Enjoy watching your video. I'm adding it to my list of things to do. I have been full-time traveling for almost 4 years now. Alaska to Europe. I'm heading to Cleveland clinic to get heart surgery on August 21st. Will be back on the trail soon
Thank you! I hope your surgery goes well too (may bump into you at the Cleveland Clinic). I’d definitely recommend hiking the Skye Trail once you’re healed!
I love that city like no other
Me too! ❤️
Congratulations, I whatching from Guadalajara Jalisco México, very nice video, aré welcome also Make a video since, Guadalajara city I Recomended you!
I would love to visit someday! 😊
This was so fun to watch. Good job mom and dad!
Thanks for watching!!
Something tells me your parents won't be going again for quite a while. Ha!!!
Maybe by the time next summer rolls around? Lol 🤞🏼
The true test of any relationship is a tandem kayak. Romeo & Juliet... Leo & Kate... all driven apart by tandem kayaks.
😂 tandem kayak and/or tandem bike, I'm sure!
Stumbled across your video while researching Skye Trail in hopes of doing it next year. My heart breaks for you having to call the trip💔 It’s never easy to do, even when you know it’s the right choice. Loved the video!
I’m glad you found it. I hope you are able to hike it 😊 Just don’t eat any oysters lol
You seem okay many people there’s altitude concern ?
I didn't notice any effects from the altitude, but I know some of my friends who've visited did experience it
Great video, beautifully shot and edited. We are long time NMI campers, and loved seeing your take on the trip. You were both super cheerful considering the rain!
Thank you! We tried our best to make the most of it 😊
I like your video👍👍👍
Thank you!!
We love Sleeping Bear dunes but have never been out to the Islands. We have definitely experienced the Michigan Black Fly season though, and it's awful. Thanks for taking us along!
I need to make it back to visit the main part of Sleeping Bear Dunes! We missed out because of the ferry cancellation
Beautiful video.
Thank you 😊
Please take with a grain of salt, the music in the middle goes on forever 😫😫😫Great work on your channel!🥰🥰🥰
Haha it really does 😅 finding songs for these videos is my least favorite part of making them. I appreciate the input for sure and will try to change it up more!!
@@mikhailalynn I am a musician so if I get it stuck in my head, it stinks. Good luck with your channel.😎😎😎 and when thinking music…..less is more!🥰🥰🥰
Amazing presentation, this place looks and feels stunning! Love it
Thank you 😊
Half Dome is soooo cool. You need to keep trying. I did it back in the days prior to the lottery. Aaahhhh...the good ole' days! Ha!! Or visit Mariposa if not Yosemite.
I love Yosemite! I’ve done the Mist Trail, but will definitely continue to try for the full half dome hike someday
Hi Can you tell me which Air Bnb you stayed at? thanks
Sure! We stayed here: www.airbnb.com/slink/LYDzTY6h It was by a loud/busy street, but I don’t mind street noise so that wasn’t an issue for me
@@mikhailalynn Thank you very much 🙂
What a well made video
Thank you 😊
Beautiful video!
Thank you!
There is a bald eagles nest on the south side of lakeview park in a tree near the kids play area
Love to see bald eagles! 🦅
Nice spot, thanks for sharing.😎😎😎
Thanks for watching!
there are certainly worse things than getting stuck on North Manitou. would be a great excuse to get off work also, that sandwich at the end look bomb as fuck. few meals go harder than a post-backpacking meal
So very true! We were a little sad to miss out on seeing sleeping bear dunes for the first time and having a campfire (and s’mores), but otherwise being stuck there was not at all bad! Sandwich was 11/10. So good!
Thank you for visiting our country and city we really appreciate it 😊
Thank you for having us! 😊
Nice video. I was there in March and would go back in a heartbeat. Mexico City is such an awesome place. If anyone reading is planning a trip, see if you can book a show at the Palacio de bellas artes. The curtain onstage is a glass mosiac commissioned by Tiffany. We saw the national folkloric ballet company and it was incredible. Thanks again for the great video!
I’m going back this week with some friends! Had no idea I’d be returning so soon, but I am very exited. Would love to see a show at the Palacio!
@@mikhailalynnI hope you can see a show. Also, the castle at the top of Chapultepec park is the national history museum now and definitely worth a visit. Have fun!
I love all the smiles and laughter despite the rain and delay. When I visited last year, my friends and I had the perfect camp site too. 😊 this year our north got cancelled due to dock issues (right after your trip!) so we are headed to south this weekend. Your video was fun to watch!
Yes, having someone to laugh with in the rain made it so much better! I’ll look forward to seeing how your time on South goes. That was one of our backup ideas if the ferry wasn’t running also
Might have just fallen in love 🫶
Beautiful, fun video. Your mix of detail shots, candid pics of each of you, and scenery is a lesson for videographers. Thanks for making these. Watching this makes me want to hike in the rain, but I’d prefer a dry bed at night.
Thank you so much!! I’m usually one to say I love the rain, much more than the sun, but this may have been a little bit too much for me 😅
Nice job! And thanks for taking my daughter with you! Looks like you gals had a fun trip!
She was the best backpacking partner!
