I so enjoy listening and learning from Fr. Martins. Regardless if anyone is Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Atheist or Agnostic or any other religion, there are angels and demons. Spiritual warfare is prolific and everywhere. You may not believe in the Devil/Satan (which makes him extremely happy), but he believes in you.

Regardless of whether atheism isn't actually a religion, angels and demons are fictional fairy tale beings. Why the hell would imaginary Satan care whether I believed in it? How could it harvest my imaginary soul if I didn't believe in it?

Great video! Just wanted to share some insights from both Orthodox and Catholic teachings on this topic:
    Orthodox Teachings:
    • Created Being: The devil, known as Satan, is a fallen angel and a created being, not omnipresent.
    • Limited Presence: He can’t be everywhere at once. His influence is widespread but relies on a network of demons.
    • Spiritual Warfare: Believers engage in spiritual warfare, but the devil is always under God’s sovereign control.
    Catholic Teachings:
    • Created Being: Similar to Orthodox belief, the devil is a created being and a fallen angel.
    • Not Omnipresent: Only God is omnipresent. The devil, being finite, cannot be everywhere simultaneously.
    • Demonic Influence: Demons, including the devil, can exert influence in many places rapidly due to their spiritual nature, which is not bound by physical constraints like humans.
To clarify, the priest might have meant that demons can have a pervasive influence, not that they are truly omnipresent. Omnipresence is a divine attribute belonging only to God. Both traditions agree that the devil’s power and presence are limited and always subject to God’s ultimate authority.
    Hope this helps clarify! 🙏

The total non-physicality of angels is certainly a traditional Catholic view, which, however, doesn't quite reflect the ancient Christian tradition (e.g. Makarios the Great, and many other saints).
A XIX century Orthodox Christian Saint, bishop Ignatius Bryanchaninov, investigated this question in minute details and argued against this Catholic point of view in his book on death.

    • @KurosakiNaturo
      @KurosakiNaturo 2 месяца назад

@@ethanguy82 The best measurement of results is, well, results. Though you may not believe it, there has been a large amount of testimony regarding spiritual/paranormal events and possessions, and in most of them, holy water holds strong effect. Never have I heard of 'standing on one leg, licking a frog, and then spitting into a cup' working with that same effect.
You hold skepticism towards matters spiritual, it is obvious, and I do not blame you. Results are easily falsifiable, and many do so for fame and profit. However, is that not the same in the world of science? Academia has been having a massive replicability crisis, especially within the field of psychology. Hundreds of peer-reviewed studies (with peer-review being one of the most important aspects of firming a new piece of information as scientifically sound, alongside using previously existing literature as reference) have just been found to be bunk. It is estimated that this replicability crisis applies generally to almost all the soft sciences fields.
Regardless, you still likely believe in both freudian and jungian psychological notions, the id-ego-superego, the stages of psychosexual development and the various complexes that can arise, you still likely belive most sociological statistical studies, and so on and so forth. It seems to make sense for you, as 'results feel self-evident in your lived experience'. Even things that you cannot possibly confirm, such as string theory, are held to as 'well it's probably true''.
If you are so willing to hold belief to scientific notions you have never researched and understand little of because 'trustworthy people', who are still human mind, affirm that they too believe in them, then why is it that you not only dismiss, but immediately disdain the testimony of those who claim participation in preternatural events?

Funny enough I just replied to another comment that said the same thing, but here goes my reply again:
I believe context is necessary here, friend. You are correct that only God is omnipresent. However, angels, who exist beyond matter and are purely spiritual, serve as His messengers and heralds. As such, they carry God’s divine omnipresence. Angels are not inherently omnipresent; their presence is not due to their own merit, will, or power, but rather God’s. God, who is truly omnipresent and all-powerful, sends angels wherever and whenever He requires their presence. This indirectly gives them an appearance of omnipresence from our human perspective.
I think this is what he meant by it, because, if we listen careful, the priest never actually said they were omnipresent per se.

You don't need to become a Catholic. You don't need to necessarily put stock in that a merciful God cannot work in other ways than their tradition prescribes.
FWIW, I am not (Catholic), and don't, either. I think God's mercy is being manifested towards the oppressed, in spite of our (at times) weak and bad theology.
However, what sort of Christianity denies the ontological existence of God, and His archenemy, the Devil?
Save for a few "progressives"...tbat don't see the devil as anything more than a metaphor...not really, anyone.
If the devil exists...then it probably has some interest in hitting his Enemy the only way he can...dragging into filth the ones created in His image, those Christ agonized for on the cross.
All these, devoid of probably the things that sound odd to you - and many to me as well - are much more modest and what is the essence, after all.
I don't need to be a Catholic to have personally experience pure evil - most of the one commenting here, regardless of their doctrine, haven't...but in theory - things that cannot be explained. And I don't need a Latin prayer to be concinced that prayer works in dealing with the darkness.
And when the staunchest atheist doctors have all the data that medicine can procide and they tell me that I'ce experienced a miracle; I know that a simple prayer has done the impossible for me. The tesimony of someone that doesn't believe in God is enough for me.
All the best, on your way, seeker! Seek God, read the New Testament; forget complicated theology books (and I am saying this as a little bit of a theologian myself - I have the diploma - really, just the cherry on top of knowing "God in practice") and read "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis.

@@anng.4542 what I have noticed about visions of hell and near death experiences is that they often correspond to the pre-existing beliefs about heaven and hell. Which means depending on their beliefs about these subjects the experience is different and when they return from the experience it doesn't affect their pre-existing beliefs. That's why we have to test all such experiences by the Bible and I don't believe the Bible supports the idea of eternal torment in hell.
Next, you'll throw out Matthew 25:46, Luke 16, and Revelation 14:11 to support your position. Those verses would support eternal hell in isolation, but there are over 100 texts that do not. I can count on one hand the number of texts that could support an eternal hell.
I also believe God is a gentleman and would not do something that might shatter a person's religious framework and perhaps the idea is more important that the imagery. I agree with Saint Faustina that many people will wake up in the judgement and for the first time realize that all that religious mumbo jumbo they rejected was actually true.

@@sandrahernandez1940 I'm not exactly sure how it works, but there is no consciousness in death. The next thing I will experience after I die is the Second coming of Jesus at the resurrection. Jesus called death a sleep and it's called that dozens of times in the Bible. We can't go to heaven or hell at death because the judgement hasn't happened yet. The judgement for the wicked happens after the second coming. Jesus brings the reward of the righteous with him when he returns, that makes no sense if we already received our reward at death.
The best analogy I've heard is that our consciousness is like software that is backed up in the cloud. Our body is the hardware. When we die the hardware disintegrates and our consciousness is backed up until it can be reinstalled in our new body. Software cannot function without the hardware, but it can exist without hardware. Our identity/consciousness is in stasis until it can be installed in a new body. I think it's essentially that God has perfect memory and can easily recreate our identity in a new body.

@coanwilliams, as Father Martins has explained, many people believe they are demonically possessed when in fact they are not, but are instead experiencing some form of intense psychological distress.
If there is a demonic presence, it will react with intense anger to prayer and to the presence of sacred or blessed objects. And yes, the possessed individual will indeed FEEL tormented by the demon at that moment, by sensations of terrible, unbearable pain.
Thus, the diagnostic question you dismiss so contemptuously... directed to an individual that Father already assesses may indeed have personal problems-- possibly including demonic oppression-- but is not fully possessed.

    • @coanwilliams
      @coanwilliams 2 месяца назад

@@anng.4542 One of the main problems with this type of questioning is not only is it leading, and leading someone who is already predisposed to believe that they may have a demon if they are seeking out a priest, but also that multiple belief systems and traditions can and do use this same ‘feelings based’ assessment as evidence to propagate their own mutually exclusive spiritual beliefs. This tells us very little about actual demonic possession if it is real, and likely leads to an abundance of false positives. This is evidence, but it is very bad evidence and more Christian leaders would be wise to acknowledge that. This priest playing the role of a skeptic here is ridiculous and people are right to not take this seriously based on the content being put forward. He likely believes what he’s saying is true, but the bias here is off the charts. If someone with this type of bias is putting forward evidence for a belief this unsubstantiated, they need to bring a lot more substance to the idea if they want to be taken seriously outside of their ideological bubble.

Yahwism, as it is called by modern scholars, was the religion of ancient Israel and Judah.[1] An ancient Semitic religion of the Iron Age, Yahwism was essentially polytheistic and had a pantheon, with various gods and goddesses being worshipped by the Israelites.[2] At the head of this pantheon was Yahweh, held in an especially high regard as the two Israelite kingdoms' national god.[3] Some scholars hold that the goddess Asherah was worshipped as Yahweh's consort,[3] though other scholars disagree.[4] Following this duo were second-tier gods and goddesses, such as Baal, Shamash, Yarikh, Mot, and Astarte, each of whom had their own priests and prophets and numbered royalty among their devotees.[5][6

Jesus is both the CHIEF CORNERSTONE, but also THE SOLID ROCK the True church, the Bride of Christ, sits upon. Unless, of course, you believe it's okay that Jesus sits atop of PETER.

You build a house on bedrock for the greatest stability, but the house still needs a solid foundation, and that's built on the bedrock.

@@LauraTucker-nv2hz Nope don't need to prove it to you or anyone else, everyone's skepticism is welcome, something like this wouldn't be proven without drawing from my own experience, the thing that bothers me is accusing someone like that he doesn't even know the person.
