I've always found people who don't rely on RUclips for their living to be the most real RUclipsrs. Only a man who doesn't rely on RUclips for their primary income can say they dislike Dresden
LOL. Thanks Ashley!
My man you are one of my favorite booktube people and I'm wishing you even more success with this channel because you deserve it over many of these other channels.
Thanks so much!
Thanks for the peek behind the curtain! Definitely something most others don’t do but it sings to your honesty.
You are most welcome, thanks for the kind words!
Thanks for sharing this info Matt! I’m new to book tube, not really thinking about monetizing, but this kind of info is super interesting. Your transparency is refreshing. Congratulations on your amazing growth! 🙌
Thanks, glad this could help!
Your channel is easily my favorite! I don't agree on every book take but definitely more than any other booktuber I've seen (Malazan #1 for starters).
Thanks so much. You are too kind!
Loved this video and your incites. I totally feel you on going negative for subs, but you really enlightened me on how the algorithm works. I think I've played a bit much, especially with my shorts, and it's lost me some subs I've gained. I feel like I'm working back up to get another hit. Which seems to be exactly what it is, that sweet algorithm cocaine.
Yeah those "hits" really come in waves!
Newer sub here! Truly appreciate your honesty and not being so guarded about the process and $$$. This is coming from a long time booktube watcher qho is considering starting her own channel. So thank you!!! Love all your content! Yes I think a year update would be fantastic!!
Thanks for the kind words Cassie!
As a fellow booktuber, I find this transparency super helpful! I've been following your channel for a couple of months now, and I've been super impressed with your growth. Keep up the good work!
You are most welcome!
thank you for sharing this info, it is important for fantasy authors who has YouTUbe channel✍✍📸📸
Thank you. Thanks for explaining the algorithms
Thanks for sharing! I've seen people talk about this before, but it's always someone who has over 100k subs and I've been curious what someone with a few thousand subs can realistically expect.
Glad you enjoyed!
You deserve so much more attention, my fav booktube channel by a mile.
Thanks so much Andy!
That was really insightful! Love the transparency and just subscribed. 🙂
Thank you!
This was absolutely fascinating, and really helpful for anyone interested in getting started on RUclips. Thanks for putting this together. Your approach to stats made you the perfect person to put this together.
It also is a wild ride to think it's been nearly a year since I first subscribed (3/29/22). Congrats on all of the success!
Yeah you were one of the original subscribers - and thanks for the kind words about the video!
Another fantastic video!!! Thanks for the transparency!!! So cool! Happy for your success!
Glad you enjoyed Dino!
Such an interesting insight. Thanks for sharing this! Cannot wait to see where this channel goes over the next six months :)
Thanks William! Yours is growing at a crazy fast pace right now also!
Thanks for sharing, always like to see videos like this
I love your videos Matt. Thanks for pulling back the curtain and showing us this information. I just started making videos for the same reason you did and your channel was a big inspiration for me. I really enjoy your format and it seems like our reading tastes are in line on a lot of things. Best of luck going forward!
Thanks so much Tom, that's super nice of you. In my discord channel (link in description) I have a "share your videos" feed, feel free to drop by and share to get more views.
Fantastic video. The algorithm Gods recommended me your channel about 1 month ago. I confess I didn't subscribe right away, but I kept getting recommend your videos. Didn't take me long to subscribe, and glad I'm glad I did! Your channel is right in there with my Booktube rotations, along with Mike's Book Reviews and Daniel Green. Exhausted quite a bit of your back catalogue too; your passion for books really shows. Keep up the fine work, Sir!
Thanks so much Kristian, that's super kind of you!
Love your work mate! Would love to see another one of these in 6months, fascinating stuff and fingers crossed you only go up and up :) I was one of the ones who learned about you through a random encounter on Reddit, and I’ll be sure to shout your name from the metaphorical r/fantasy rooftops myself! Keep up the fantastic work 😁
Thanks so much - that's super kind of you!
Thanks Matt, very useful info
You are most welcome!
Keep the good job you doing Matt...you fun to watch and you have good taste...thumbs up and good luck in future.
Thank you!
I like your style, bro. The transparency about everything from the money earned to the books behind you being placed for the frame shot. The fact that you don't do a lot of cuts is also impressive. I'm happy to subscribe, and I hope to see your channel continue to grow.
Thanks so much, that's super kind of you!
This was pretty enlightening. Thanks for sharing Matt!
No problem, glad you enjoyed!
Excellent video, thanks Matt! This kind of transparency is what I never knew I was missing from other booktubers. It's also been really cool seeing you and the channel grow since I first started watching. Keep doing what you're doing, and I have a feeling your channel will start being a mainstay on those reddit "best booktubers" threads!
Thanks so much Ben!
Very interesting to see your start, all the way back from he beginning. Thanks much for sharing your journey. 👍
Of course - glad you enjoyed!
you growing faster than me. I only had 2000 subscribers after the first year. 3 years in I am at 15,000. You will speed by me soon
We'll see. I feel like I could be hitting a wall at any point that is hard to grow beyond. Who knows!
Hi from Brazil, Matt! I found your channel recently on a Malazan search and I’m loving your videos. Keep up with your great work!
Thank you Diogo!
Aww man, when you requested me as a Goodread friend, I thought it was because you liked my reviews
Honestly at the beginning on goodreads I DID request only people I wanted to read reviews from - so you could have been in that batch!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews I was just pokin fun at ya, I don't want you to think I'm putting you on the spot 😁
This was a fun video. Would love part 2 in 6 months.
I'll put it in the schedule!
Who would have thought that someone that enjoys progression fantasy would enjoy grinding and progressing on RUclips 😀 Great video Matt
LOL
Really interesting to learn how this works! Appreciate the walkthrough!
You are most welcome!
i actually didn't even notice the absence of background music and sounds. Just kinda felt like part of a discussion ^_^
Thank you, that's what I am going for!
As a fellow creator, This video was incredibly interesting. Its always fun to talk about how to chase the algorithm. Love your transparency and all the information!!! Wish I could figure this out for my channel, Im jealous of your quick success! 🤪 But thanks again!! Will send this to a few friends.
Thank you!
Thank you Matt, I often wondered how all that worked. I really appreciate your transparency!
You are most welcome!
This was extremely informative, thank you for doing this.
Of course, glad you liked it!
Really interesting peek behind the curtain. I appreciate you taking the time to put this together.
I assume it’ll be years before I hit the requirements so I’ve barely considered what monetization would look like.
You never know if you randomly get a big hit video that propels you to monetization instantly!
Great video Matt. I apreciate the transparency.
Thanks Adrian!
Very cool video man by the way I watched it all LOL I keep saying this but I mean this you are doing some really cool stuff you're doing some different kind of videos then what a lot of the other booktubers are doing I enjoy your content keep up the good work
Thanks so much Johnathan!
I always find your more analytical videos extremely interesting
Glad you enjoyed!
Super cool transparency!
Thanks Parker!
Good luck man! Very cool to see the numbers.
Makes me want to create something, but I don’t want my face to be Public lol
LOL, yeah you definitely have to put yourself out there to have a RUclips channel!
Now to see the numbers on this video. How much money does a RUclipsr make on a “How much money did I make” video.
Keep it up Matt. I jumped in recently and am enjoying your content.
LOL. I'll post it as a sticky comment afterwards. But anywhere from $10-100 probably.
Really interesting video. I’m a very recent subscriber to your channel, but have been dipping in to watch the odd video for a while. You were recommended to me by the algorithm as I’m not a big Reddit or Goodreads guy. Have been considering starting my own Booktube channel for a while, will keep your Goodreads tip in mind if I do!
Nice, good luck! Don't stress too much about starting one, just start recording and have fun!
Very interesting. I started a RUclips Channel a few years ago to teach people how to play certain types of board games. I didn't stick with it enough to get more than a few hundred subscribers, but I always wondered what monetization would net if I had. I appreciate your effort in posting this. In other news, I just started Jade City based on your review. So far, I share your enthusiasm for it.
Happy to give a behind the scenes look! And I hope you love Jade City, it only goes up from there in my opinion too!
great video. Can' believe you have only been doing RUclips for nearly a year. I'm still not at 1k subs and been making vids for years, think consistency is what I need to build subs but I love making them when I do anyway :) Will get there one day maybe haha
Yeah consistency is KEY to growing the channel.
Good for you Matt! I like your channel a lot and you seem like a cool guy. So keep it up, friend. I always try to like and comment on any video I watch, so I hope that helps out. That is why I have a lot of generic comments, because I can't think of something cool to say. This video was fascinating, btw.
Much appreciated. Those comments/likes/views help those videos get more traction!
Nice video!
Thank you!
What software do you use for your videos matt? Anything crazy?
The free version of Da Vinci Resolve.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews thank you!
Pretty cool Matt. Just curious. Now that you kinda know the process. If you solely focused on making money, what types of videos would you make? What screen shot would you use? I hope you don't and just keep making what you want, but just curious what sells on booktube.
I always try to make a screenshot that I think will do the best, because they all take about the same amount of time to make and are simple to do.
As for content, if I wanted to make money I would abandon doing book reviews (which are my favorite thing to make) and focus on long form content, Manga videos, recap videos of fantasy in general, and "top 10" style videos.
Out of those, the only one that I enjoy doing is the "Top 10" style videos, with my favorite by far being video reviews (which do the worst). Since I already review every book I read, I use the extra time I have to make top videos or whatever piques my interest at the time.
Can u review the complete malazan in 1 video
I did kind of do that recently.
Great video! Could you please tell me what are you using now for recording?
Thanks! I use a Panasonic LUMIX G7.
And with what you started. :)
Thanks for your reply. I'm getting pressure from my friends to start recording Booktubey but I don't know how to begin :)
@@ivanjovanovich3808 Just get a cheap webcam and have fun. You'll slowly start making things better over time as you learn from practice.
The more videos you make, the better you will get. And over time you can figure out what kind of equipment you want to make things better.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews You are very kind. Thank you. :)
The algorithm is killing book reviews, unfortunately. Booktube all top 10 lists, as you have seen with your data. Debating whether I want to start a channel, if noone will watch.
I mean personally, my channel has grown while being mainly reviews with some other stuff involved as well.
Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you'll take this down and delete it later on if you take off and become big enough to live off RUclips like all the rest do.
No problem, and I definitely won't delete. I will never make RUclips a job, it's just a hobby. I have a great job that I love!
Hey Matt, can I ask you whats your real job?
I'm a Chief of Staff for a politician.
Goodreads is how I found Matt! He friended me just like he said he did in this video with the 5k max. I am an n=1 but it’s a great strategy to increase followers.
Thanks Dan! I'm surprised goodreads doesn't put a limit on how fast you can add people like other platforms like twitter and facebook. It's a really easy technique.
Matt didn't friend me on Goodreads😭 but now I know why.
