What a great comment
Finally, some respect
No damage to either vehicle, impressive although the i'm sure the car driver will have a heart attack when they look in the rear view mirror.
rather have a milled heart attack then be carried by 6 any day of the week
But it depends on a person.
I don't know why anyone is feeling for that guy. He probably does that stuff for a living made made $10,000 or more for that.
Caleb M if you read what he wrote he never specified who would have a heart attack, he means any driver on the roads.
The car didn't stay stationery... So he obviously was a bit concerned lol
Considering the amount of weight that the brakes stop in such a short time is incredible

@@boah1668 because as a person it's pretty weird to have a truck...
@@thorsten5198 I literally have a Massey Ferguson combine harvester and that makes me weird?
That's amazing. I assumed the truck was empty but it turns out it's fully loaded. Unreal. The way the truck is designed in front to force the momentum down on the front wheels is genius.
All true, but also… semi trucks actually stop faster when fully loaded. More weight on the tires=better traction. The only time weight is problematic is on long downhills, when the extra force required to keep the truck at constant speed can overheat the brakes, rendering them useless. That’s how you get runaway trucks. In emergency braking situations, more weight is counterintuitively helpful. It’s why cars stop significantly faster than motorcycles.
@@1995blooper You're talking shit. Heavier vehicles take longer to stop, there's massive amounts of testing data to back this up. For example, Terex 25 dump truck test:
Tare = 19,440 kg
Load = 23,000 kg
GVM = 42,440 kg
Top speed = 60 kmh
stopping distance at top speed when empty = 67 metres
stopping distance fully loaded = 93 metres
Motorbikes don't stop as well as cars because they have two wheels. More tyre, more traction.
@@tristinwilcox9518 Except that it's totally wrong and real world crash testing data shows this.

@@cautarepvp2079 Because it slows them down. They obvoiusly lose part of the control of the vehicle. And a lot of long established drivers don't like that. Of course this is extremely stupid but thats whats happening.
@@myfatassdick check the description, it's fully loaded
I find it crazy how this is still impressive a decade later, this truck stops faster than a good chunk of cars, and the truck is fully loaded.
To be fair, yes the weight is a big factor, but these huge trucks also have lots of huge wheels. The main limiting factor in braking distance is not brake force, but grip on the road, and so with all that traction the Volvo can employ muchhh more powerful brakes than a road car can.

To avoid risk, it would be best to use a remote controlled or automated vehicle. Unless a rep or executive of the collision avoidance tech company or of the company which builds the end product is that confident to drive the front vehicle.
I would drive it. It's a Volvo. What's gonna happen, the bumper sticker gets a scratch?
Does the active collision avoidance or mitigation avoid or respond to being rear ended?
I just watched the in cab view again. The speedometer shows the needle a hair below 60 and gradually falling before hard braking. If that is km/s, then that's ~37mph or slightly less and falling. Try it at real highway speeds. I'm not knocking the tech though. It's a much needed and useful feature. Wrong. You can drive tanks on the streets all over the world, but if it doesn't have any shooting capacity, and if you don't have mental issues.
Tracked vehicles cause excessive damage to pavement; which most places can't afford to keep all of in good condition. How does it make sense to allow tanks to be driven everywhere? Maybe they have to pay for a special trip permit? OTOH, they also burn excessive fuel which is also taxed heavily, unless the owner makes their own where it isn't taxed in that case.
There have been private owners that drive decommissioned armored vehicles, tracked ones yes... around the streets and to even gas stations. IDK their legality but there are videos of people doing that.
Yes tracks do damage pavements more than wheels but doesn't appear that its strictly illegal.

Set the option to enable engine brake toggling. When driving make sure it's left on and use cruise control. Learn to toggle it on for braking and off for smoother driving around corners within cities. It works quite well, even without a retarder in the transmission. Not as well as this demo though. You still have to adjust your speed a decent distance in advance to avoid collisions and tickets. I've gone through intersections at off ramps because I didn't adjust it down far enough before getting to the off ramp. Hard braking with the service brakes, engine brake and retarder combined is too little if you wait just a little too long with a full load. If the off ramp is ascending that helps but you can even get in trouble there. If it descends, brace yourself and steer off the road, where you won't get stuck and have to call for help, while braking hard at every point you feel it's safe.

No, but any driver worth their salt will keep enough distance for that to not be necessary.
For the guy in the car, RIP in advance :'(
I had to look for your comment before I made it myself.
@@KaptenN most drivers are not worth their salt, they are just salty.
Only thing more impressive than this video is the amount of experts in any truck vs. car crash video’s comment sections telling me that semis/trucks can’t come to a stop in time and thus are free to hit any car that gets in there way.
0:37 when my big bro comes to slap me from behind but suddenly mom enters
Damn boi - your bro hits like Iron Tyson 👊

Ok

he was looking for his canelloni
Looks like it's on the gearstick
But yeah lol
Clankplusm Gaming trucks are automatic
I think that was a passenger recording
@ isn't there a high-low setting or a redundant fallback? I doubt it's just "press pedal to go"

Bra jobbat till volvo!

all the vegetables being delivered turned into caesar salad in 5 seconds.
Least it wasn't the family of 4 in the minivan being turned into a light lunch
@@matthewjackman8410 good point.
No . The Trailer is empty ! Some Test eh?
@@smyffmawzz if you paid attention in physics you would know, that the mass doesn´t effect the braking power as long as the brakes are strong enough which they defintely are on this truck.
hahahaha
Volvo: Develops all safety tech
Other Companies: Copy, Paste
hahahaha
They don't even patent some of their tech for it to be available for all. So other companies copy because they let them
Only my opinion but I think If a company develops safety technology it should be a standard
Correct me if i'm wrong. But I was so Amazed to Learn that Volvo Created the seatbelt. Only to freely give it away to other companies. Now that is safety to the max. And really shows you where the heart of a company is at.
Well I dont mind that copy paste tbh.
This is something a lot of people get wrong, everyone thinks trucks take a lot of space to stop but in reality their braking systems are incredibly powerful
This saved the life of a child a few days ago as seen on the news. Cheers to volvo!
turns out that the truck didnt brake with aeb but the driver did found out by the company kreiss and volvo
@@AlexJeffDust-RenAzuma66 How did he see the child? Even if the truck didnt break automiaticly it was amazing stoping distane.

this is amazing, bravo Volvo
Kanan Al Volvo is the best truck and a car in the World
I think the truck is not loaded, if its loaded it might take longer
dg Wiley Loaded it would take longer
What an awesome Emergency Brake! Bravo Volvo
Thank you Volvo trucks for bringing us all together. Take care, folks.
More like bringing everyone together driving behind the truck
But I can agree tho
i think the important part is that they’re keeping us apart at high speed
Your turn, AMERICA.
Volvo trucks are in Europe and America...
Tesla OS 7.1. Now it's your turn again. ;-)
The system just recently had a car crash into another one.
Volvo has also released an autonomous system similar to Tesla's!
I drive a 2016 Peterbilt, and it has a system just like this. It makes people cutting you off even more irritating.
Holy shit, never thought it would break that fast.
+Thomas Shih Yeah it's not an American truck...
lfsracer79 or Chinese ones, have you seen videos of those? It takes like a mile for it to stop from 60
+Thomas Shih Break: separate or cause to separate into pieces.
I could imagine a few people in the labs were like "This is gonna scare some sense into a few people"
Mike, This must be one of those moments, you have nothing to say but wanna be included anyway..
Probably driving at 25 to 30 mph.
These brakes and emergency brake assists literally save lives here. Can make the difference between a dozed off trucker hitting the end of a traffic jam at 85 kph or not.
I also like how the system never overreacts but only applies the brakes when a collision is imminent.
the poor guy behind the truck just got decapitated 'cause he couldn't brake in time :P
not in a Volvo they won't, Volvo cars all have automatic brakes too :D
The low barriers at the end of trailers are meant to prevent that. There are crash tests on each barrier by each company. Most trailers in Europe are forced by law to have them. www.transportation.gov/fastlane/nhtsa-proposes-new-rear-impact-guard-standards
unfortunately most people pass their test and then forget about safe following distances, if the person behind the truck drove correctly they should be able to stop safely.
IIRC the truck only activates emergency brakes if the area behind the truck is clear (or clear enough).
Wel you are saposed to be several cars behind in order to stop, Thats why when your rear ended it is automatically the person behinds fault. I never get why people tailgate.
every driver after an almost hit like 0:53 says bad words.
Paul j lol yeah, I literally swore at the moment when the truck almost hits the car even though I already knew that’s just a test
My chest tightens everytime 0:50 happens
I think everyone let out a fat “F*CK” when that part of the video played 😂
The don’t just say bad words, they *invent* bad words
Unfortunately this doesn't work in Euro Truck Simulator
And i got kicked from the server 😭
