The Redhead Redemption arc was my favorite story coming into this season, and it just keeps getting better. I wouldn't be upset to see him in purple for another year and I'm rooting for him to revitalize his career whatever the case.
6:17 THANK YOU!!! I've been beating the "2022 Panthers 4-2 run" drum for a long time now. That showed that Sam WAS a better QB than what he had shown. Going to Shannahan and the Niners the following season was the BEST DECISION he ever made. And now he's where he is with the Vikings....
Fans & pundits need to see this Viking interaction with Darnold & this supporting cast as a beta test. New QB. Getting the coaching he needs. Everything would be a learning process. There’s variance. Progress isn’t linear.
JJ is the Vikings starting QB in 2025. The only caveat is if Sam gets them to the NFCCG, which I see as fairly unlikely. Even then, the Vikings may move off Sam because I think KOC believes he's found his long term franchise QB, and you get him at 25-30% of the price tag that Sam will command in free agency. This roster still needs help, and given their lack of draft capital they're going to need "quality" free agents to patch up holes. if they re-sign Sam then it's going to feel like the Kirk scenario all over again, only worse because they actually have their future QB in the building. I know the "Sam extension question" provides content, but this regime is far more strategic than the prior one.
@@oel734 Winning a SB, I'm not sure they'd let Sam walk without at least trying to bring him back, but they may offer below market knowing he'll sign somewhere else. I don't think they are going to a SB this year so the point is probably moot, but I agree with your sentiment that that GM & HC are wedded to their strategy which is one year with Sam and turn the reigns over to JJ. It's the smart play.
@@mauricedavis2679 Chargers aren't throwing like they did last year either. That's the way harbaugh runs an offense and has nothing to do with the talent of the QB. When he did throw he had a rocket ande accurate arm, even ont he run. KOC and McNown believe he's our future. I'll believe them.
KOC has harped on reps & ops. Every throw. Every drop back. Every route. Everything is being beta tested. The more game time. The more Darnold will get better. Variance always meant he’d have bad throws. But he’s been on an upward trajectory.
@AndrewMay537 They would have kept Kirk if that was the plan. The plan is to roll with a rookie on a rookie salary while spending the leftover $$ on other positions of need on the team. And that need is even greater due to all the draft misses by Kwesi over the last 3 drafts....so instead of rookie salaries for 4 years, they have FA salaries to pay for. Money has to come from somewhere.
@@KevinsNorthernExposure Sam's 27 and playing 3x better than Kirk did. He's entering his prime. And O'conells system is tough. Takes a while to get the hang of it. He's only going to get better. We're going deep into the playoffs. So. I don't see how we can't.
@@KevinsNorthernExposure Well still have plenty of money to fix the o-line and grab some corner help. And we have a gunslinger with one of the top arms and accuracy in the NFL
@@AndrewMay537 Someone else doesn't have a top 10 QB on a 21.5 mil rook contract ready to go openng day next year, someone else doesn't have 80 mil for FAs IF they DON'T sign him, and someone else has more than 3 picks in the draft and needs to fill holes with FAs.
And I wouldn't blame him for leaving. He came here to resurrect his career and he's doing that. He didn't come here to hold a clipboard at 27-28 years old.
J.J McCarthy is an unknown project who just had 2 surgeries done in his leg. Best bet is to sign Sam Darnold, especially if the latter takes the Vikings deep into the playoffs.
JJM had ONE surgery to repair a miniscus tear, NOT an ACL or MCL, and his second "surgery" was a shot to reduce a little swelling. JJM will start game 1 nesxt year.
The "Turnover Worthy Play" stat is BS to me. If Sam throws a pass that is COMPLETED but almost Intercepted, he shouldn't be punished for that. The pass was COMPLETED. BOOM. END OF STORY. Same thing if the pass was incomplete and almost INT'd. "almost" is only good in horseshoes and hand grenades. An "almost INT" is still an incomplete pass so Sam shouldn't be punished (judged) on that either. Turnover worthy plays are plays where Turnovers ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
@@RednGone Nah you're good. And I do see your argument. But I guess I'm more of a results-based fan than a Process-based one. Plus, calling something a Turnover-worthy play is a bit to subjective based on the person reviewing the play. Some would say it is a Turnover-worthy play, others won't.
Here is something to ponder. Sam Darnold. USC freshman year. 9-1. Without Sam. 0-2. Jets 15-23 record with Sam. Without him over his tenure. (Flacco) 0-15. Carolina, Baker was 1-6. Sam without Cmcs help. 4-2. Same roster, he's outplayed every QB he's been up against. And he's done it extremely handily. Kirk last season 4-4. Sam. 9-2 this season. Different defense, sure. But, that record seems to follow him everywhere that he goes. MINNESOTA FANS NEED TO SEE IT, and stop trusting the media so much.
Sam is entering his prime soon. O'conell's system isn't easy. It Takes time to gel. Look at how good the lions are with the same offense for a couple seasons. Imagine a couple years playing like this. O'conell's capable of turning Sam into the MVP of the league. 30-40 mil? Who cares. Just do it.
First, your trivialization of a Donatell vs. a Flores defense pushes your argument almost to the brink of credibility, but even ignoring that gaffe, here's my rebuttal: JJ McCarthy finished his college career with a 27-1 record (.964) as a starting quarterback, the highest winning percentage in NCAA Division I Football history. His only college loss as a starter was in the 2022 College Football Playoff semifinal against TCU. Sam throws a 56 MPH ball, and JJM throws a 61 MPH ball. JJ is 6 years younger (22 at 2025 opener) than Sam (28 at 2025 opener) and earns 21.5 mil over 4 years with a 5th year option while Sam could command upwards of 150 mil over the same 4 years. That leaves a probable additional 128.5 million over normal cap space for other players' second contracts and top FAs. That's how teams build and keep talent to become SB winners. Sam will be 32 after those 4 years, entering the last half of his career and JJ will be 26, just reaching his prime. JJM and SD were already considered neck and neck in TC by the coaching staff before JJ's injury. JJ's injury was not an ACL or MCL. It was a mimniscus tar, a minor and frequent injury. Vikings chose to do the complete repair instead of the tissue clip to reduce the chance of a repeat. Second, they put him on season ending IR because they weren't sure how well Sam would play. They eliminated any fan demands for JJM to start by doing that if Sam failed. JJM will be the VIkings starting QB 2025 and beyond.
Very nice season....atmosphere , team surroundings, and his own hard work get credit, but i think once we lose in the wildcard game or divisional, it wont be a question. JJ is the plan. Spend money on other parts. Here's hoping JJ can duplicate the success and beyond. Health is a ? though.

I will tell everyone this. If they let Darnold go and McHandoff flops, there will be people fired. Probably, the HC and GM will be looking elsewhere. Again, McHandoff has not proved a damn thing, except he isn't durable. Matt, I just do not see McHandoff doing it. I told everyone that Jayden Daniel's and Bo Nix would do well in the NFL. I also said McHandoff would not. So far, I'm 3 for 3 until McHandoff proves he can play against REAL TEAMS with the STARTERS IN, not preseason people looking for a job.
