Actually that’s a real bear, a Malaysian sun bear(and same thing happened in Korea too, 2 hears stood up and walked toward visitors lol)

Oml ....hahaha...you did not just pull a dad joke outta pocket....for some reason, where most people roll their eyes at goofy dad jokes, they are my fav and 99% actually make me laugh a for real laugh. When my son was younger, he started telling me some goofy dad jokes one day. He said what do you call a cow with no legs? Ground Beef. I giggled my butt off and after that he would tell me some every day. I think thats why i love them. But unless its a real stupid one, a dad joke will make me laugh every time so thank you for that laugh

If it was a real bear they would have let TV personnel get in much closer and film a lot more of the bear doing it's daily activities, as a matter of fact a full 30 minute documentary would make this bear an international sensation. If they can alleviate all fears that it is a fake then attendance would go up by 100% or more.
PT Barnum was famous for things like the Mermaid and other oddities. The trick was that you never got to look at them long enough to figure out if it was real or not.

I love when funny stuff like this gets national attention, it lets people learn about the wildlife in question! Sun bears are great (I mean if you ever see one don’t approach it, cause that is very much still a bear)
So this entire 'story' is just people showing off how they have no idea what sun bears are before today.

How nice of the bear to wave like that. They must wave to each other consistently.
You can tell it's real because of how close it's getting to the edge. There's no way a person in a bear suit will walk right up to the edge like that. Plus, when it almost fell forward, it only used its front legs to readjust and didn't even move its back legs. A person would have stood up and jumped back.
Ya. You can see the power of it when it readjusted after falling forward. No human has the ab/core power to do that.
I mean just look at the way its face, head, and tongue move. It's probably cheaper to buy a whole new bear than build an animatronic that sophisticated.
People have been blown off the cliffs at the grand canyon because they stand on the very edge.

I can validate that is 100% true. That's a real Sun Bear. How do I know this? Because I'm from where Sun Bear native land. Here we got 2 Sun Bears. One is the Malay Sun Bear (as you see in the video) and the other one is Borneo Sun Bear (this is where I'm now). I used to see Sun Bear standing like that when I was visiting the Sun Bear center in Sandakan.
How many of them left in your forest?? I read somewhere they are considered as vulnerable species because of intense deforestation and poaching for Chinese traditional medicine
San Francisco Zoo used to have Sun Bears. They are a smaller bear. They walk with a certain shuffle. The body language of this bear is human. Sun bears are really cute- once you see real ones they will be one of your favorite bears. They do have interesting feet..

It's clearly a sun bear. Even my dog tries to replicate human behavior so the standing up thing isn't even remotely suspicious.

The bear is just smart enough to understand that imitating the human visitors (it sees thousands per day) sometimes leads to food reward.

I worked in that zoo and part of our duties for all staff was to do a 3 hour(never longer or you could get heatstroke) shift in the sunbear outfits, we all have to do it and sometimes when the only people around are fellow Chinese we talk to them but never infront of foreigners lol.

1. There are 2 slits in the front that look like zipper pockets. Rewatch the video, and look at the front view of the bear. You will see / \ on the chest area. Looks like zipper pockets to me.

Before I knew anything about Sun Bears and knew how they looked and behaved, I initially thought this was a man in a costume. Then, at closer glance, after a quick look up of information, I am convinced this is an authentic Sun Bear. Now, that's not to say the zoo doesn't use costumes for drills and certain scenarios, but I don't think this is one of them.
I think Angela here was begging for food. A picture doesn't tell the whole story. Watch a video of her mannerisms or better yet, go in person. Then you will understand. Humans cannot imitate the same demeanor and mannerisms. A highly skilled actor, maybe, not some teenager working a summer job wearing a bearsuit!
The thing that was bending its knees and moving its hips and upper body so easily while keeping upright definitely does not look like any bear I've seen moving around.

I don't necessarily think it was Americans, the debate started on Chinese social media. I think it's in general that people are very misinformed of what these animals look and behave like.
Bears have always looked human when they stand. They stand all the time. Chester Zoo hasn't got a clue they have institutionalised bears why not ask someone who actually lives near them.
