JBL's main influence on bass is the great James Jamerson who played on most of the Motown records of the 1960's. Including, but not limited to Marvin Gaye's "what's going on". Check out the bass on that one. This track is one of the best examples of his funk and soul. As a session musician in pre-Zeppelin days, he was always called to play these kinds of tunes in England. He was the only one who could to it. Bonzo was also a Motown fan. It's so obvious. I'm so glad you guys listened to this one!

Ain't it funny how things come around full-circle. This song was originally Robert Johnson's from the 30s. Then this English Rock n Roll band comes along in the late 60s, to pay tribute to the GREATNESS of Robert Johnson. Then 50 years later, black people are paying respect to the white people, who were paying respect to the black person who wrote this masterpiece in the first place!

Jimmy page was a huge session musician in the 60's and he got bored with it so he joined the yardbirds. Jimmy page's band was breaking up 1968 so he decided he wanted to get a new band together to create the sound he was hearing in his head. So he knew John Paul Jones from his session days and Robert plant was singing in a local band when Jimmy heard him and immediately wanted him to sing in his band, Aswell as John Bonham who was in the same band as Robert. They hated the idea of being sell outs so they never put out singles even when the record label insisted because they felt you should listen to all of it or none of it because it was a package.
Jimmy page was the mastermind behind it all, mixing, producing and paying with his own money for the whole of the first tour (money from his sessions) eventhough he was only 23 at the time. He is also widely considered the greatest guitarist of all time. Jimmy page was also fascinated by the occult but only the knowledge and never truly practising it, this is what many believe inspired Jimmy to write such haunting and mysterious songs. He also didn't talk much which gave his a mysterious element to him on stage becuase of his huge hair and double guitar which people loved.
Robert was never interested in music theory and was a through and through blues man.
John Paul Jones was a session player along Jimmy who also got bored with it and joined the band. He could play Keyboards, Bass and mandolin aswell as pretty much anything else but every guitar you hear on any songs by them is always Jimmy.
Bonzo was playing drums since he was 5 and was really inspired by the jazz and motown of where he lived in Birmingham, England near Robert and Jimmy. He took this style and made it into the original rock drummer sound aswell as inventing a technique with his footpedal that many still can't do today. He sadly passed away in 1980 after choking on 40 shots of vodka he'd had at a rehearsal.
The band released 8 studio albums not including a 3 hour film of their 1973 Madison Square Garden shows aswell as some fantasy sequences during the songs to demonstrate what inspired the songs. But many believe that their improvising heavy live shows are the they best they ever did with dazed and confused versions that are 45 minutes of pure Heaven sent music.
Led zeppelin I came out in 1968 and immediately changed rock forever going platinum in weeks and since then has gone diamond.
Led zeppelin II came out less than a year later and was pure Hard rock and blues and has some of their best rock/blues songs on.
Led zeppelin III was famously written in a cottage in Wales called Bron-Yr-Aur in 1970 which influenced the nearly entirely acoustic album other than songs like since ive been loving you and immigrant song.
Then the album came out in 1971 that would cement Led Zeppelin as the biggest and greatest of all time, that being Led Zeppelin IV and album with black dog, going to california, stairway to heaven, rock n roll, when the levee breaks and the battle of evermore. This album skyrocketed them to international rock god status. This album has now gone double diamond making one of ten of the highest selling albums of all time along side Thriller and Physical Graffiti)
They we immediately huge after the first album and were the first band to sell out entire stadium. Critics in England didn't like them because they were big in America but after the 4th album they gained worldwide notoriety and Rock God status.
By 1972 they were the biggest band on Earth even knocking the beatles last album off the top of the charts.
In 1973 they released another groundbreaking album Houses of the Holy which had only added onto their already unmatchable status and musical pioneership with new ways of recording never even thought of before hand and songs that are still huge to this day.
In 1974 they took a year off to start their own record label Swan Song where they were to release everything they out out from then on.
By 1975 they were back to touring and recording so they released Physical Graffiti a double album so good it brought all their other albums back into the charts (making them the only band to ever have 6 albums in the charts at the same time) this album changed rock forever (again) with its hard edged but still soulful songs like kashmir and trampled under foot. This album is one of 10 to go double diamond along side thriller and Led zeppelin Iv.
By 1976 Jimmy had gotten deep into a tragic addiction to heroin and it lessened his ability to write, being the main songwriter this was rough for the band. The rest of the band supported him the best they could whilst still selling out stadium around the world. It was this same year they released their 7th studio album Presence which was also loved world wide but had a slight dip in quality because the 'leader' (as the rest of the band agree he was) Jimmy was unable to give his all.
They continued selling out record attendances until 1977 when tragedy struck. Karec Plant son of Robert Plant had passed on due to a stomach infection back in England whilst Robert was on tour. This obviously called an immediate stop to the tour and the rest of the band publicly supported Robert by keeping the press away whilst he mourned his tragic loss. This took alot of wind of Robert in terms of the band and he reluctant to tour. Jimmy (still addicted to heroin) stayed close to Robert in this time and so did the rest of the band.
In 1979 They released their final studio album In Through The Out Door. It was a clear precursor to the more keyboard heavy 80s because of Jimmy's addiction meant he was less able to write guitar parts.
In 1979 they did a world record attendance comeback performance at Knebworth Park In England ( a gig so big it could be seen from space.) They played unbelievably passionately and it was a great return to form. They were back on top after 2 years away.
In 1980 they immediately went out on a world tour of Europe, America and parts of Asia when Tragicly John Bonham passed away in his sleep due to his alcoholism. The heartbroken band immediately broke up the band because they all agreed their was no Led Zeppelin with Bonzo.
Over the next few years they all stayed close but Jimmy page spiraled into heroin only getting clean in 1985 because he realised he would die if he didn't.
Skipping forward to 2007 Led zeppelin decided to reunite in a tribute to a dear friend they had lost. Jason Bonham son of Bonzo took the seat of his Father and they play the 100,000 people at the 02 arena in England. They played their hearts out with their best songs in a gig that lasted 2 hours. They were once again the biggest band on earth with nearly 20 million people trying to buy tickets.
In 2012 they released Celebration day the film of the 2007 concert.
Since then they have been content to leave the legacy of the biggest band of all time to itself.
That all you need to know about Led Zeppelin.

Loving Mini Van, and the fact you guys are interacting more. Be careful though. Looks like he might be having thoughts about taking over your channel. Some of these little guys sometimes get what's called a Napoleon complex.

Half of their discography are old blues song covers. All the major British bands of this era were heavily influenced by American blues and R&B.

Led Zep IS a rock band but one who drew blatantly from the American roots music of blues & jazz, then electrified it.
