PS Mughals missed a golden period to bring education to the masses, The printing press, global navigation, global trade all were available during the mughal period, which they did not capitalise on, that lapse leaves us in our current state. So their glorification is unfounded. They where an empire not dissimilair to many before them, running on their concerns. An interesting question would be: Did Aurangzeb's twin policy of supporting and destroying temples for power, also extend to Mosques? In other words did he destroy mosques in regions where muslims had rebelled? Did he destroy mosques in Bijapur when he won over Adilshahis or Golconda?

But my point was that if he did implement a stern policy of destruction for temples but not so for mosques, that itself is proof enough that he discriminated systematically against Hindus. PS Mughals missed a golden period to bring education to the masses, The printing press, global navigation, global trade all were available during the mughal period, which they did not capitalise on, that lapse leaves us in our current state. So their glorification is unfounded. They where an empire not dissimilair to many before them, running on their concerns. Mughals never ruled south India at a stretch, hence no one speaks hindi/urdu in those areas (except Hyderabad/telangana state). That urdu culture never reached there. However people in south enjoy mughlai cuisines since they have fine tastebuds.

I wonder why my school textbook says "Akbar the Great" and Auraungzeb's rule was a bit ruthless. @@subwaymirdif I don't think that's the case. It's just a lack of funding for such research, lack of institutes and lack of quality people working on the subject. These changes will come with further development of the country. These are sensitive topics and some amount of false outrage is to expected, but research should happen regardless

Her whole argument is based upon the fact that Hindu Nationalist vilify Aurangzeb. But she doesn't realise that propaganda has nothing to do with history. So when you study Aurangzeb you have to focus on what records say of him, what was his circumstances etc. Whether Hindu Nationalist hate him or not has nothing to do with historicity. Her arguments aren't reputed enough to make her a historian.
It is better to refer to Jadunath Sarkar's books on Indian history. His usage of primary sources is stupendous whereas when it comes to deft spin masters like Truschke, thapar et al., we only see creative writing, and imaginative interpretations.
I will study History, take a PhD in it, and the first thing I'll do is, go to the US, start telling their history to then and let's see how they react
Go ahead.. they will not shout at you. If you are good and can challenge them and win with proper reasoning and argument, they might make u a president of their history club. Many Indians are history professor there... Do that in India.

I mean, don't cite figures if you read from some deluded 'sources' and consider them 'authentic' just cause it fits your perspective!
