Comptabilité carbone & SBTI avec Jérôme Meessen (Climact)

L’École polytechnique de Louvain (EPL) a reçu Jérôme Meessen dans le cadre du projet « EPL Transition ».
Du 14 au 19 décembre 2023, les enseignant·es et les chercheur·euses en sciences de l’ingénieur et en sciences informatiques de l’Ecole polytechnique de Louvain ont participé à 4 demi-journées de formation. Au programme : 13 expert·es aux disciplines variées sont intervenus autour de la question « Comment évaluer la soutenabilité socio-environnementale d’une technologie ? ».

👉 About Jérôme Meessen: Jérôme Meessen is associate partner at Climact. He holds a PhD and electrical engineering degree from UCLouvain. After about ten years in the ICT sector (research & start-ups), Jerome joined Climact as consultant focusing on energy and climate change strategies for the private sector. He then worked 3.5 years in Hanoi as expert of the Belgian Development Agency to support the Vietnamese government in developing its climate finance and green growth strategy. Back at Climact in 2017, Jerome leads a team of 15 consultants and contributes to strategic analysis for both private and public organizations. Key projects include: 2050 net-zero pathways for the EU, low-carbon roadmaps for private organizations, municipalities and territories, agriculture-related strategies for large EU retailers, sustainable investment strategies for large banks.
👉 About the talk: After a brief introduction about the climate mitigation pathways the EU and Belgium are engaged in, Jerome will present the current motivations of companies taking initiative to decarbonize their value chains and the methods they use to do so, all building on carbon accounting. Last, Jerome will highlight challenges, fears and signs of hope raising from these initiatives, without forgetting the role of engineers in a successful energy transition.
