Keep in mind that the only person in this movie that Kora cannot make herself to kill is Balisarius.

when one side is supposed to be an irredeemably evil empire you cannot do what Snyder / Disney Star wars did, because when you humanize what are supposed to be the evil imperials, and then immediately undermine it by having your characters indiscriminately kill the imperials, you turn your heroes into the villains.🤔

You know, it occurred to me that the reason why media with villainous protagonists like Goodfellas or Death Note work so well in comparison to Rebel Moon or Disney Star Wars. Which is that the protagonists in examples like Goodfellas, Death Note, or The Sopranos were never portrayed as genuinely heroic or noble. Those types of stories usually lead to the villain protagonists either redeem themselves and change their ways, or have all of their misdeeds lead to their downfall. I doubt the writers for Rebel Moon had that kind of self-awareness, though.

You know, there is a very mild defense of the reason why they chose to inspect Kora for injuries in the elevator instead on the spot. It looked like the elevator was like right next to the hangar. And, as a medic, you wanna minimize the time to the ER. So, instead of stopping right outside the ship, checking, and then waiting around in the elevator, you can just get into the elevator and use the travel time to make the inspection. That can make sense if you don't need the few seconds to get into the elevator.

Rebel Moon's heroes are deeply unsympathetic and evil (just slightly less evil than the Motherworld), but that's not the same as being pro-fascist. They don't blame a mysterious 'other' for all of society's problems, and don't (yet) attempt to rebuild Veldt into the First Grain Empire. They do romanticise the past, but don't see violence as the solution to all problems (Kora tries negotiations first).
I dislike fascism being used as a synonym for evil. It sands fascism down, makes it undefinable and indistinct for the unique brand of evil it is.

It's a term that completely lost its original meaning, and it's just "authoritarian people I don't like".

This not a fair and pretty much a baseless accusation. Snyder is of Jewish decent. Rebel Moon basically doesn’t write fascism well and it even borders on being a self parody but I don’t think it’s alright by saying it promotes fascism. I’m not a Snyder fan. Frankly the man sucks at writing and should only be a visual director. But it’s not a good stance and frankly acts in bad faith overall to make this argument. It comes done to a badly written script with badly written characters. That’s all.

I don't believe Snyder *intentionally* wrote the movie to be pro-fascist, but I think he's such a bumbling moron that he unintentionally wrote a scene that unambiguously paints the fascists as sympathetic and the heroes as psychotic murderers who kill unarmed workers and medics. Functionally, that scene makes the fascists look like the victims, even though that clearly wasn't his intent.

@@EFAPHighlights I see your point. That scene is a mess where you don’t quite know who to root for and you just watch a bunch of random senseless violence for the sake of it.

What did you expect from an Ayn Rand-reading Libertarian?
Of course Zach Snyder is pro-fascist.

Ayn Rand was Jewish. Do you really think Atlas Shrugged leads to Mein Kampf? Don't get me wrong, the libertarian to fascist pipeline is real, but the people who go full Ayn Rand tend to sink in the libertarian cesspit.

@@bobbyhill3323 Fascist aren't automatically nazis. Nor are they racists, or sexists, or whatever. It's an ideology about autocratic collectivism, with some strong conservativism on top. That's about as far as it goes. By blurring the lines, and calling everyone fascists for unrelated transgressions and without nuance, it will just turn the word into a meaningless insult that nobody will take seriously.

Zach Snyder doesn't understand fascism, socialism, or politics.
I say this because he's a Hollywood insider who has been marinated in the Hollywood mentality that anything that is not far left communism is fascist nazi evil monster baby eaters.
This is because one of the biggest defenses that the left wing has is to accuse everybody else of what they are doing.

I am glad I haven't wasted like 6 hours of my life to watch this trash. Much more entertaining to listen to you all rip it apart and use it for toilet paper.

To be entirely fair. It's one of the closest portrayals of Italy I've ever seen.
