Wait this is the first time I heard this story. Or a new interpretation:O Since this is based in the game, King's Raid, I thought the well known story among Insomias, are Yoohyeon got possessed by the darkness (just like the MC in King's Raid) causing her to see different views about the girls she trusted. She is seeing JiU betraying her (perspective) but it was actually her that's the one betraying them (Deja Vu). She hunted and banished the others as well, killing JiU first. (And that I did not think of them turning their backs on them but seeing how they did in MV it might have been that instead of being banished. Though the doors closing kinda makes me thinks banishment.) And then, Yoohyeon took the throne. All by herself and all alone at the very end. That's basically the small summary of the MV based on the game. But I'm intrigued with different interpretations of this MV. But ig it's almost the same as yours. Just little bit different.

But I think they talk about love in a much more mature and multi-faceted way than most groups. It’s not necessarily strictly romantic or bubbly and happy the way you typically hear in kpop. It’s funny that you brought up both video games and anime openings-because this song was created for the mobile game King’s Raid, and they ended up doing an opening for the related anime as well, King’s Raid: Successors of the Will! That song is called Eclipse! This is another song that has a really cool MV narrative. It looks like the DC girls are all princesses in a kingdom and used to be friends until Yoohyeon (the one with gray hair) became evil and banished them and forced JiU (the blonde) to fight her. But JiU showed mercy in the end, and Yoohyeon stabbed her in the back-literally. And then it seems like the Deja vu part is literal too, because JiU seems to come back to life, and their fight keeps repeating. But what’s really interesting is that through the whole thing, we see two versions of the same event-reality, where JiU is a savior and Yoohyeon is an tyrant, but also things from Yoohyeon’s perspective, where she believes she’s the good one and JiU is evil. There’s a tinge of paranoia to it even, because we see that in the “last supper” scene where JiU and Yoohyeon are standing side by side surrounded by their other friends, in Yoohyeon’s mind she just sees them at opposing sides of the table. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu.

No Dreamcatcher song epitomizes this more than Deja Vu, the soft instrumentals and delicate vocals giving way to that powerful chorus is simply fantastic. Thanks for a dope reaction! This is the favorite song of a massive amount of InSomnia, and rightfully so. Everything about this video is a work of art. The set, the outfits, the framing, the lyrics, the direct message, the symbolic/metaphoric messages. My favorite thing about this video is that a lot of story is told with so little action. It's such a sad story at that. Dami's line, "I hope these are passing delusions. Through wet tears, through belated regrets" real hits me for whatever reason. 😭 Love this damn song. As for the love song statement, it's honestly an issue of semantics. Dreamcatcher totally makes love songs. Hell, BEcause was their first title track directly about love. We missed her, so everybody kept going back to songs that showcased her vocals. This was the best one for that at the time, plus the line itself is iconic. As for the meaning of the song, it's rather poetic like you said, and can be interpreted in many ways but I think the broader theme of the song is mostly about regret, and missing someone. This can be seen separate from the music video, but when you apply it to the MV, I think it tells the story of Yoohyeon's character (who's sitting on the throne at the end) who basically betrayed her friends for the sake of power, and in the end, yes, she has power, but she is alone. In fact it shows different scenes of her being surrounded by her friends and them disappearing, giving the impression that she misses them, but only during the bridge (when she picks up the sword and is about to stab JiU in the back) it's really revealed that she is most likely the reason they are gone.
I would argue that they do have some love songs (maybe not any title tracks though), about actual healthy love that is, so I'm not talking about BEcause 😂 But they're not explicitly about romantic love, so they could be interpreted as being about friendship for example. It's nice that they tend to leave those kinds of songs so open to interpretation. They also _never_ use any gendered pronouns (or words like "boy" etc) in any of their songs, so they're really open for interpretation (or to apply your own feelings to) on any level 😊 As for the rock elements, they do have lots of b-sides without rock elements, and also some b-sides with rock, but it is true that they have never released a title track/single without any rock elements (even though there are one or two that are relatively light on the rock, it's never totally absent).
Great comment and clarification on all all of this. Agree on all of this - yes they definetly have love songs, you just have to listen to their bsides and ballads in particular. But they are not the same as other groups love songs or songs about love, which I find to be more surface level. For me their 'love songs' / songs about relationships have more meaningful lyrics. And I mean JiU wrote and released her song Cherry which is about her love for her dog.👍🎵
actually most dreamcatcher songs have little to no rock/metal influence. you've only heard one layer of their discography in their title tracks which are more for the mass market. their b-sides are much more musically interesting and I've heard so many people describe some of dreamcatcher's b-sides as some of the best music they ever heard. most of dreamcatcher's lyrics are abstract so of course you can read it multiple ways. many could be easily read as being about love. it just varies from person to person and how the song/lyrics make them feel. however it wasn't up until a year ago that they said they made their first song about love, a ballad. so while their previous songs could be interpreted as being about love, it wasn't their original intent. to truly understand the lyrics as their intent, you have to know their history as a group and their discography. as I mentioned in a previous comment, dreamcatcher was born from failure so a central recurring theme in many of their lyrics is not giving up on your dreams, hence one meaning in their name dream 'catcher'. another recurring theme is staying true to yourself and not giving into the 'darkside' in chasing your dreams. so in this context deja vu simply refers to overcoming life's recurring hardships and making sacrifices to break the cycle in order to be reborn anew. the imagery also plays on betrayal in pursuit of a dream only to end up with nothing. no matter what you achieve in life, it's worth nothing if you lose yourself. that's the short version - one could literally spend hours picking apart the lyrics and the visual imagery. even when they include english that appears 'broken', its by design because it would be read a different way for another meaning.

To say that Dreamcatcher never makes love songs is a little misleading. BEcause, for instance, is actually a love song. Just a very, very dark love song. It would be more accurate to say that there are no happy endings in Dreamcatcher songs. I guess you could say that they don't make romantic love songs. For instance, Jazz Bar is a song about two people in a bar, their eyes meet and they feel this spark between them and they start thinking, "I think I like you? I think I love you?". They also _never_ use any gendered pronouns (or words like "boy" etc) in any of their songs, so they're really open for interpretation (or to apply your own feelings to) on any level 😊
As for the rock elements, they do have lots of b-sides without rock elements, and also some b-sides with rock, but it is true that they have never released a title track/single without any rock elements (even though there are one or two that are relatively light on the rock, it's never totally absent).

Great comment and clarification on all all of this. Agree on all of this - yes they definetly have love songs, you just have to listen to their bsides and ballads in particular. But they are not the same as other groups love songs or songs about love, which I find to be more surface level. For me their 'love songs' / songs about relationships have more meaningful lyrics. And I mean JiU wrote and released her song Cherry which is about her love for her dog.👍🎵

actually most dreamcatcher songs have little to no rock/metal influence. you've only heard one layer of their discography in their title tracks which are more for the mass market. their b-sides are much more musically interesting and I've heard so many people describe some of dreamcatcher's b-sides as some of the best music they ever heard.
most of dreamcatcher's lyrics are abstract so of course you can read it multiple ways. many could be easily read as being about love. it just varies from person to person and how the song/lyrics make them feel. however it wasn't up until a year ago that they said they made their first song about love, a ballad. so while their previous songs could be interpreted as being about love, it wasn't their original intent.
to truly understand the lyrics as their intent, you have to know their history as a group and their discography. as I mentioned in a previous comment, dreamcatcher was born from failure so a central recurring theme in many of their lyrics is not giving up on your dreams, hence one meaning in their name dream 'catcher'. another recurring theme is staying true to yourself and not giving into the 'darkside' in chasing your dreams. so in this context deja vu simply refers to overcoming life's recurring hardships and making sacrifices to break the cycle in order to be reborn anew. the imagery also plays on betrayal in pursuit of a dream only to end up with nothing. no matter what you achieve in life, it's worth nothing if you lose yourself. that's the short version - one could literally spend hours picking apart the lyrics and the visual imagery. even when they include english that appears 'broken', its by design because it would be read a different way for another meaning.

To say that Dreamcatcher never makes love songs is a little misleading. BEcause, for instance, is actually a love song. Just a very, very dark love song. It would be more accurate to say that there are no happy endings in Dreamcatcher songs. I guess you could say that they don't make romantic love songs. At least that's the case when it comes to their title tracks.
They do touch on love in their b-sides. For instance, Jazz Bar is a song about two people in a bar, their eyes meet and they feel this spark between them and they start thinking, "I think I like you? I think I love you?".
Anyway, let's just say DC doesn't make your usual love songs.
