Thank you for posting another video about this palette. You are entitled to your experience and opinion; I often find that people online tend to take criticism of their preferred brands and products incredibly personally and see it as a personal attack. You were not malicious or nasty in any way, and you have reviewed many a palette on first impression that provided a more satisfying experience. There is such a thing as the right product for the right person. But it's also important to hold companies to account for the quality of what they offer, and for the value for money they provide. This palette offers a lovely color story, and people's opinions will differ on the quality of what's inside, but Mario also charges a luxury price for a set of eyeshadows made in the USA, and contained in pretty nondescript plastic packaging. $68 is a lot of money to most people. I appreciate your honesty and I hope you can get more use out of this palette in the future!
Thank you! I genuinely hate to be hurtful to anyone so I'm glad it's not coming across that way. I think I just really wanted to like it...and then I didn't. 😌
@@redgirlreviews I would love your take on Natasha Denona Roxa! So far I have heard mixed reviews about the shimmers. One person said they are very weak and another person said they are quite pretty.
@@jjjjk1241 I'm waiting to swatch this one in store to see if I really need it. I was excited about a purple palette and then I saw how bright red leaning/purple it was and I was like....ehhhhh. My guess is that the shimmers are good as per her usual formula (dear God the green shimmers in Yucca are some of my FAVES) but I don't know that I want that bright purple shimmer on my lid. I think I'll look like a clown being as fair as I am! 🤣 It strikes me as a bit '80's cheesy looking versus editorial but I'll go see what I think in person.
I love how you're honest, yet tactful. I totally agree, if any makeup creator is going to charge such a substantial amount of money, make the formula worth that cost. Personally, I've heard many negative reviews about this new Mario eyeshadow pallet. I rather buy indy brands. I just ordered the Nomad Ghost Town eyeshadow pallet, that has many cooler tones in the pallet. It should be here tomorrow. I know Nomads formula is amazing and the sparkle is there. Thanks for doing another video with this pallet. I definitely will not put my money into this product. Also, thank you for all your suggestions on brands I never heard of, but will try.
Thank you! You are going to love that Nomad palette BTW. It's not so much sparkly as it is metallic and beautiful wearable grayed out metal versions of all the different greens/blues/taupes. Fall out is not bad either. I'm tempted to get their newest one but my wallet is already having a heart attack with all the indie palettes I've bought in the last month.🤭
I’m so glad you started a channel. You can tell you come from an art background I do too. Before I became chronically ill I was a painter and photographer. I want to get back to drawing but at moment makeup is my creative outlet. Love colour theory and playing with contrast tones and textures. I have a dark aesthetic so like vampy tones but also enjoy delicate looks that harmonise with my colouring.
Thank you! I agree this is such an enjoyable way to transition from 'working artist' to creative outlet without all the pressure of producing for other people constantly. For us artistic types there is something very satisfying about putting our fingers in the materials and getting to play with a new color theme each day and see where it takes us. Also why we get so excited about really good materials. They make the vision and magic happen that we see in our heads. I wish I could do more of the dark aesthetic stuff because I love it so much (was a goth theater girl back in highschool) but I just look like Dr. FrankNfurter from Rocky Horror everytime I try.🤣
I completely agree that products should be easy to use. There’s a very small market for professional MUAs. Most of us are not any kind of artist and are just out here doing the best we can with the limited knowledge we have. I don’t have hours to do makeup if it takes more than 20 minutes I’m out. I appreciate your reviews
Yes I'm glad you brought that up because there are some formulas that are so good that they swipe on and behave right away and the color stays where you put it, the blending is easy, not too much fall out...and then there's ones like this where you spend so much time dicking with it, trying to blend, cleaning up fall out that it literally takes 4 times the amount of time to apply it. Results can still look good but you want to tear your hair out by the end of it!
I have cool, fair, pink skin just like yours. I am waiting for this new Mario to arrive. I ordered it specifically more for the cool, cool mattes. I am 67 and prefer a more calmed down shimmer. I use eye primer, Nikol Beauty. I have Mario's matte, the second release, and have never had issues with fallout. I also use different brushes and soft tap. I find that his formula is soft, creamy, and easily blendable. Compared to Morphe Essential Matte 13, which is chalkie and dry with a ton of fallout. I am not a professional at all, but my preference is the softer formula that needs a light hand, like the Mario. I agree it is expensive. You have given me some great ideas on where to find cooler shade blushes and lipsticks. Most brands are warm and yellow. Undertone is an issue for a lot of us with all different skin tones!
This one sounds perfect for your needs and style. I think you’ll really enjoy it! I agree with you on the Morphe, too dry, OK but I like the softer formulas better too, so much better for blending on my crepey lids.
I'm so glad I can be helpful! I have to admit I trolled around on makeup videos for years myself looking for ANYbody with my coloring to help test new releases etc. and there's just not hardly any of us out there so I finally gave up and decided I would just have to do it myself! 🤣
Fair cool toned gal over here that has gone thru a journey with this brand! Got the first etheral eyes, hated it so I stopped using it. Like a year later I gave it a try again...now love it and got this new one and love it. I have learned because I am so fair these sparkles do NOTHING for me unless I have at least a mid tone shadow under it. So I would use one of those mid-tone shades all over my lid and crease and then the sparkle shows up. Still subtle but noticeable. I think with fair skin it disappears almost. As you said, you shouldn't need lessons and instructions to make it work!!!
You know good call on the light skin on the eyes. I thought that might be a factor and it makes sense that all the good examples I saw of it were layered over the darker shades now that I think of it!
@@redgirlreviews for me it is the ONLY way they show. Still very subtle but you at least see something. It definitely isn't a formula everyone will love.
I think the Mario shimmers look great in low lighting, but people are rarely in that unless it's a dark restaurant. lol I'm interested in Huda Icy Nude because her palette shimmers aren't subtle.
I appreciate that you give an honest opinion out there. I too love Indie brands and once I discovered them I never looked back to luxury brands for eyeshadow they just don’t compare.

Just watched your last video and am following up with this one. I think it is okay if this palette is not to your taste but it may be the perfect palette for someone else. I do agree that for that money, you shouldn’t need a tutorial on how to use eyeshadow. I appreciate your insight into your experience with this palette and the details you provided for others who might be interested in purchasing it.

If your looking for a good alternative that has ✨shimmer ✨ and your gonna be shocked but the new Kylie Cosmetics the Smokey palette slaps 🔥 bought it on whim hadn’t purchased from her in YEARS and it’s great, especially for $32. It’s missing that blue but I’m not a fan of the blue anyways that’s probably the color I’ll use the least out of my Mario. I have both and like both for different purposes but just figured I’d share! It's so interesting that the shimmers are so low key when all of his promo clips are crazy shimmery. I'd be curious to see if he does a fuller tutorial at some point and what it looks like without effects...
Yes exactly. It drives me bananas when I see promo shots that make me click BUY IT and then it shows up and I'm like...wuuuut??? Even some of Natasha Denona's promo shots of her swatching shimmers like molten metal on her arm are eye ball roll inducing. I'm like, I own that eyeshadow and no freaking way does it look like that. 😑
@@redgirlreviews Right?! I think that might have started with Pat McGrath's product shots, but I would also argue that her shimmers probably became a precursor for a lot of the interest in duo-/multi-chromes and were remarkable when they first launched.
Hi! New to your channel. I reviewed this also. My review was a less in depth video than what I usually do, but I think it performed as it was meant to perform. I think this was meant to be “ethereal” subtle and sophisticated sparkle that you would get glimpses of in the moonlight. I do think it gave a more sophisticated sparkling effect… beautiful for a Subtle hint of interest when one turns their head and the colors are caught. It’s actually very feminine and classy as opposed to my moondust shadows. I still think the price is too high lol. But I think it is a good palette for a woman with mature lids, looking for a subtle little something extra… a mysterious moonlight sparkle. ❤. You did a great review! I will see you soon. I appreciate your honesty and what a younger woman can teach an older woman! We should collaborate one day and offer the reviews from each age genre. Well done ~ Mona

@@redgirlreviews seriously, you are from Denham Springs? That is a coincidence! We may be related 😂. You look so much younger! @@AboutFaceWithMonaBagot I don't think you look older than you are! I got moved up to the PNW in my teens so my exposure to sun went to almost nothing so I think I've really benefitted unusually from that...and I do a ridiculous amount of things including estrogen therapy to try to slow down my collagen loss but time comes for us all. I love watching your videos as it's like going home and being with my fave aunts who still live down there. There is a different culture in Louisiana and it's a great one that I miss. @@redgirlreviewsthank you! My dad’s side of the family is from Washington state & I still have a lot of family there and Oregon. It’s so beautiful there!
@@AboutFaceWithMonaBagot OMG how funny! The weather here takes awhile to get used to but once you do, it's hard to ever leave the clean air, green and water everywhere and the mountains. It's so expensive and we don't like the politics here at all so we always want to leave but it's hard to find a more beautiful place near the water that has all the seasons.
It still looks pretty on you. I think it is supposed to be more of a subtle shimmer, not bold shimmer. The new Pat Mcgrath holiday palette is very sparkly, maybe try that one.
I dont mind topper shades, especially now that my eyelids are wrinkly, but I have enough, including from indie brands that Im not drawn to this palette. Honestly, I don't need more eyeshadows 😊. My last temptation has been a halo eyeshadow, though Great review!
Thx! And yes I actually appreciate a beautiful watery see through topper shade now that my eyelids are much older and less taught too. My faves are actually the Moira lucent cream shadow singles for that look...and MUCH cheaper.
Thanks for revisiting and I definitely feel like the formula is subtle and more suited to low light or natural light. Jackeline films in natural light and showed it in the sun whilst Milly from Badtothebrow showed it in low lights - and it is most likely targeted at someone that likes subtle toppers with a brief sparkle, possibly better over the mattes. Most looks I’ve seen actually seem to focus on layering mattes with the shimmers over the top now I think about it. I am used to Indie brands like Glaminatrix Cosmetics where it is more molten and obvious intense sparkle. So I am on the fence between getting MBM two ethereal palettes (both still available in oz) vs coping the huge hit of international shipping to get cold moon (ER is like over $110 AUD shipping which is basically a palette). I don’t think you should feel like explaining or apologising for your thoughts on the palette - everyone is entitled to their view and if you experience issues then others will. Not every product or brand will suit everyone’s preference and seeing it in action by lots of reviewers actually helps viewers decide more than if it is their cup of tea if that makes sense.
Yep I think that's all you can do is just show the dang thing and let people decide in the end. ;-) What I find irritating is when the brands show promotional videos and shots that are way more sparkly etc. that what you actually get. Both MM and ND are bad about that but I'm glad you can at least go swatch things at Sephora before you buy so you can make up your mind. I actually wasn't planning on getting the ND Yucca palette because it just looked mustardy and weird to me and I figured it was for warm tones and then I went and tried it in store and had to have it. Very different vibe and some of the prettiest green shimmers I own with one of the best smoothest sparkle formulas. It's always such a hard decision on these expensive palettes when you have to get it through shipping only!
@@redgirlreviews I completely agree on MBM and ND marketing antics and it is actually very off putting that they clearly show swatches that are not the reality of how they perform. It is very deceptive which is why review videos like yours are completely helpful. I’ve thought about these palettes some more and will definitely be skipping MBM as I am too used to indie. You have saved me $260 AUD so a huge thanks (I rely on RUclips as Sephora is no where near me unfortunately).
@@Amber86queenbee I'm so glad I could be helpful! One of the reasons I started this channel is because I was always so frustrated at the difference between what was shown online and what I actually got in person especially color swatches for fair cool toned folks! Literally everytime I ordered a 'mauve' it would show up orange...sigh.
My two great grandkids are reds. And we are Hispanic. The palette is a no for me and is too expensive. I usually buy the ND palettes. The ones i like. And they are bigger palettes. Thank you.
I think makeup by Mario customers are everyday people , so I totally agree that there shouldn't be a special technique, etc, to use his palettes or anyone else who stocks at sephora, etc . From the start of his eyeshadow releases, there have always been mixed reviews. Powdery , fallout, and they dont last on the eyes . I appreciate your honest reviews. I dont think you need to apologise.
I think I've seen so many big make up artist types on youtube using his palettes as their solid base eyeshadow for clients that I just assumed I was missing something and it must be me but it's good to hear that there are others that feel the same way at least and it's not necessarily a 'skill issue' 😂
Also, I hope you post a short of the Huda palette! I am very meh on her matte formula, and her shimmers are too unwieldy and way too blingy for my taste and my hooded eyes. But the color story is pretty. Also, what's with the Petri dish of a glossy highlighter that is included in this new collection? I can't be the only one who thinks it's off-putting?
🤣 Yeah, I have to say that some of this collection (Huda Ice one) looks like it missed it's release date which should've been a couple years ago when the whole cold girl thing was having a moment and icy highlighters were out there blinding people but I am curious to get my fingers in it at the store and see if there's something there that's interesting.
@@redgirlreviews Yes, and it's supposed to be her last large palette, so it will be very interesting - the color story does look nice and cool, for the most part!
@@lyra2282 I was looking at it online next to Rose Quartz and I think it's going to be that perfect more natural shift from cold pinks and blues which can be a little hard to wear to a neutral to cool version of most of the colors which should look fantastic on our skintones!...fingers crossed!
I'm glad you gave it another try. Remember it's called the Ethereal Eyes Moonlight palette. Moonlight is more subtle and ethereal. If you want bright and blinding, maybe it's just not for you.
I don’t know, frankly I kept noticing the red of your eyelid coming through because the shimmer is so sheer. Maybe you manipulated it too much but it’s just not giving for me.
Yeah, if you are able to go swatch it and you feel like the shimmers are enough for you it might still work for you but I found it really was a 'one note' kinda palette and $70 is a lot to spend on that for me. Icy Nudes is gorgeous (finally just got my review up) but no blue for sure...still not exactly sure what is so 'icy' about the palette either.
I have the original and never use it. The shimmers are ok but definitely not enough for me. I’d rather buy one impactful shimmer from an indie brand or Addiction Tokyo and use with another palette. Or pull out a Mothership. I think the Mario stans need to chill. There are a couple of brands where because of the creator/founder I really want to like the brand, but just don’t. This is one of them.
Agree. I think maybe that's part of my feeling bad. I've seen a lot of videos with Mario and I really like him so I don't want to be hurtful. But...this is still not for me. You mentioned Addiction Tokyo and I've been eyeing them forever. Do they have good shimmers? If so I might need to finally pull the trigger on getting some of those!
@@redgirlreviews Addiction Tokyo has many different formulas and one is a very nice shimmer. You have to pay attention when you order as the other formulas are nice but too expensive for what they are, imo. The ones I like end in SP or are labeled sparkle.
I am sorry, I really don’t believe you have a cool undertone. You look like the most classic spring! Your skin might have a rosy/cool overtone but I really believe you are a true or light spring ❤️
Sadly yes…I mean I know they make it look it’s best online but for all my efforts I can’t get it to look like that so it feels a bit ‘bait and switchy’ 😬

I love watching your videos as it's like going home and being with my fave aunts who still live down there. There is a different culture in Louisiana and it's a great one that I miss. The people and the food are the best truly. I've been gone too long to be able to handle the weather anymore but I do miss my people. So glad we touched bases and I look forward to your next video! 🤗
@@BethAmoapim yep! Agreed and I do love my Pat McGrath palettes for their insane shimmer!
Sparkles in deem lighting
Yes in very low light I can see it finally!
I dont mind topper shades, especially now that my eyelids are wrinkly, but I have enough, including from indie brands that Im not drawn to this palette. Honestly, I don't need more eyeshadows 😊. My last temptation has been a halo eyeshadow, though
Great review!
Thx! And yes I actually appreciate a beautiful watery see through topper shade now that my eyelids are much older and less taught too. My faves are actually the Moira lucent cream shadow singles for that look...and MUCH cheaper.
@redgirlreviews Yesss...I have a few Moira ones. Agree!!
I know I can definitely get better sparkle from a cheaper palette.
Absolutely!
Thank you.
I definitely prefer the ND formula to this one both in shimmers and mattes. Just so much easier to use...and frankly slightly cheaper for more colors!
I think this palette is great for the office when you need a more subtle, "ethereal" shimmer...but definitely not if you want maximum impact sparkle!
Totally agree!
Definitely! 😊
Put the shimmers on top of one of the mattes.
I am also a fair-skinned redhead and for $60+ I want to see beautiful creamy impactful shimmers.
Yep, this is not it! Moira lucent shadow singles are better for $8 for that.
I don’t know, frankly I kept noticing the red of your eyelid coming through because the shimmer is so sheer. Maybe you manipulated it too much but it’s just not giving for me.
I'm with you! I shouldn't have to find special lighting to get a shimmer to show on my lid...
I think you would probably like some of the Indie brands for less money. Most of them do the shimmers a lot better.
Absolutely! In my previous video that was my last thoughts..I like my Fantasy Cosmetica better for half the price!
Wow. This is sucks. I was looking forward for this palatte. I can't have Huda icy nude because it lacks the blue shade.
Weak formula and it’s so expensive!
Kinda yeah! $68 is just not worth it IMO
@@redgirlreviews shame I love my cool tones
@ralphandleosmom9075 I’ll check those out thank you!
I am sorry, I really don’t believe you have a cool undertone. You look like the most classic spring! Your skin might have a rosy/cool overtone but I really believe you are a true or light spring ❤️
I’m annoyed as well have the same problem the sparkle is not sparkling at all as per @mariobymakeup video
Sadly yes…I mean I know they make it look it’s best online but for all my efforts I can’t get it to look like that so it feels a bit ‘bait and switchy’ 😬
