Oh very clever. And I like how everything is modular. Unload the bins and even an oldster can move the stuff in and out... (ps I am glad you didn't do an over track. It was too cute. :D

I made the beds 1 inch and 3/4 dia ally tube, length of tent canvas 1/4 inch ally rod in seamed edges with cord lashing between them underneath that allows me to decide how tight I wanted the bed / seat tops.

The need frames and the kitchen unit at the front are all pulled down using 6mm rigging access from the local hardware store, they have a left and right hand thread on the end so when you return the buckle or tokens things down.

Gutted.... watched your othet video on how to firbreglass the roof panel. Absolute godsend. Been looking at making my own toofs gr a while for transits and LDV maxus vans.
I just wish this video had shown the completion of the roof ur how the canvas secures to the top and the van roof

Fabric attached trip roof with 12 X 3 sky stripped and lots of self tapping screw's, and trio the van using a standard trim strip on the 15mm upstand of metal I left and bent years to stop the rain coming in.

Your roof just made getting a vehicle inspection in Japan impossible. You can now camp in your driveway.

Nought this one 2 years old with 58000 on the clock, ex taxi so probably maintained pretty well. Cheep as guarantee runs out at 60k but with Renault badge on the front guarantee to 100k so they must be OK.
Put 15000 on that now no prob. 48 mpg (46 in reality)So what's not to like. This is the basic but cruise control Bluetooth radio hands free and all that even aircon. All good.

Hi Richard great work on this and the elevated roof. I can tell your a guy that can do anything. Thinking of doing a similar thing on a boxer/relay. What material did you sue for the fabric on the soft top and wind shield and did you make them yourself?. If you had them made would you please let me have the details of who made them. Cheers tim

Well if anyone feels they hasn't got the time or table to make their own conversion you can but this one is on sale at soon as I'm going for a bigger van with another interesting conversion Inc a bathroom heating and a double bed which can still all be folded away on the van so that I can carry good on between camping trips.

Fitted a larger battery (golf trolley sealed lead) and solar panel (100w) now, the little LIon one would run the lights and compressor fridge for 3 days but a week is better.

Hi Richard. Love your project. I am thinking of doing a DIY pup up roof for my van. And I have a question for you. Do I need permission to cut holes in the roof of the car and a fitter pup up the roof?

Welding ally is fine you will need an ac tig welder and argon shield glass it's not impossible for a novice.

Hi. neat build. a little wonder. is not the solar cell and the battery a bit small. or is it a lithium battery. Normally, you usually have at least 100w solar cells and 200Ah battery.

Very practical conversion. Two questions, if I may; where did you get the beds, and were there any legal hurdles involved when you fitted your own (ingenious) elevating roof (DVLA, MOT, insurance)? Thanks :)

How would the roof (ignoring struts etc that hold it up) take the weight or solar panels, especially when extended?

Hi Richard, what are the clamps called that you used to fix the aluminium shelving to the van? Love your reversible conversion - just what I need too. I am going to have a go at brazing the tubing rather than welding.
