Inspired by a 1908 boat of around 40-50 ft with beautifly simple genoa sails filled by a gentle breeze. The sculpture is 3.5 metres tall and mounted on aturntable allowing it to turn and face the wind direction of the moment. Set here in its natural surroundings but looks almost as at home in grass or possibly a sea of gravel.

A sculpture inspired by a 1908 magnificent craft of around 40-50 ft with simple genoa sails and sleek lines set as if running with the wind on a nice gentle day. The sculpture is set on a swivel allowing it to come to life in the slightest breeze. This is the perfect setting for the sculpture but it works nearley as well on land, maby surrounded by a sea of raked gravel

I dont see a price . .
No inside kitchen space?
Why are you selling?
May I ask, we’re the fittings pre fabricated or did you make them yourself? If PF, can you provide a link. Many thanks.
No price link contact info
What a great engine. I guess it's a. No.3
👍
I live in Japan. I’d have to buy another freakin’ house to have somewhere to store all those boxes! 😅
brilliant
Your roof just made getting a vehicle inspection in Japan impossible. You can now camp in your driveway.
Is it waterproof after real life testing? Wind howling at all?
i like your setup thank you but wouldn't go with the black out screen on the outside, if you get bad trouble or something and need to leave fast , put it on the inside, be safe and thanks again
This is not so cozy ...me not like
?
This is a Stuart No.3 compound engine 😉
Richard, are these the engines that were saved from being thrown out?
That is amazing - really sharp looking. How did you describe the modification to your insurer though? How did they respond?
You r 👍
Any update on the completed van? I'm planning to do this aswell. Would love a more in depth description! Nice job though!
Were do u get kit from I've vw transporter
Did you make the fabric yourself as well? We have a special back on a land rover and I would love to make the roof a pop top. Any tips would be amazing :D
Bet £10 he was in the scouts !
Why did you use epoxy? Very expensive. I've been building boats as well as a patternmaker (plugs) and one off mouldmaking for architectural mouldings for over 40 years. I'd have made your mould using melamine faced chipboard and used polyester resin.
Nice! Would you back yourself to put a roof rack on this for a canoe/kayak?
How does she drive? Any additional road noise or air whistles? Great to see someone doing this. Most of the self conversions I've found are using old westy pop tops ...but those cost a pretty penny😁.
Awesome 1957 roof..... ruclips.net/video/fxu3hr_gCv0/видео.html
Super 😁☮️😁
This lad has been busy
Very talented. Great video
You are ruining my video honey lol
Hi Richard great work on this and the elevated roof. I can tell your a guy that can do anything. Thinking of doing a similar thing on a boxer/relay. What material did you sue for the fabric on the soft top and wind shield and did you make them yourself?. If you had them made would you please let me have the details of who made them. Cheers tim
Really enjoyed ,tremendous skilled conversion, looks easy and quick to convert between van and camping trip.
Nice! GG
hi... good job... impressive ... however I am worried that (wanting to do this myself) is this safe and able to pass MOT standards? how did you ensure the design was appropriately safe?
guts and skill wish i had the skill, you still have the van??
hi Richard, great project! you inspired me to make a roof for my own van. there are a lot of various fiberglass fabrics on the market. Could you tell me which one you used or can you recommend something for the construction to be light but stiff and strong? thanks in advance - Simon
Thank you so much for sharing that popup roof is ligth and easy to lift and seem to b no sofisticate complicate lift system its first i see like that and i think is the best solution for me i find so far
This is amazing! How did you make the surround that encased the cut edge? Did you fabricate it from scratch?
Impressed 👏
Hi Richard. Love your project. I am thinking of doing a DIY pup up roof for my van. And I have a question for you. Do I need permission to cut holes in the roof of the car and a fitter pup up the roof?
Brilliant! A guy that knows how to do stuff, rather than talk about doing stuff!👍
Smile for the camera.. Wave.. Why not carry on.. Dance.. Jump around.. Sing 😂😂
Whitch company did you get the fiberglass matt from ?
Easy composites on line but based on the UK
@@richardcresswell7096 thankyou, .....Tigg.

@@richardcresswell7096 inflatable mattress,air mattress, 1900×1200 mm
Very cleverly done and beautiful, although probably not very tender 😉
You never showed us how it popped up and down
Ah sorry chap it's away for the winter now, or until I sell it to buy my self an electric van, new project. Basically it has 3 homes along the right hand side and has said front and rear which lift it to 40 degrees and a fabric piece to create the space. Full head height front to back.
Great job. Did you make all that yourself? I like how easy it all is to get ready for a trip.
Yes occasionally I take a break from being a sculptor and fall back to my engineering part. richardcresswellsculptor.com
I think there is more to it. It may not be as easy as it is shown ??? What are the pit falls ? What and how much materials used ?
That is SO COOL!! Did you make everything yourself??
Whats your thoughts on insulation heat vs cold?
