    It's actually smart how they put the dodge behind ( in p-organ) because u need to learn how to perry , guard early in the game. So now I get why they did what they did having the dodge get unlocked in the skill tree.

    I have noticed a lot of people have had problems with motivity builds and I did at first as well. Then I realized that it is more suited for a block, parry, punish play style and with such a high damage reduction after 1 maybe 2 pokes u can recover all of ur rally health pretty easily. So i would block and parry until I had a good opening then throw my poke out maybe 2 and if u get a really good chance charge attack. Now when they r ready to be staggered I throw the shot put which instantly staggers them so I didn’t have to risk being knocked outta my attack. Boom rinse and repeat. That strategy for me was easier than my dex build.

    The review was good all the way up until you said you don't know the story. The story was by far one of the best parts of the game and also the reason your character looks the way they do, it was the whole point. Watching P become human and his hair changing to show that was a huge part of the game.

      I understand, but I play these kinds of games for a story. That is not because the stories are bad, it is just how I enjoy these games. I play these games for the fun gameplay experience, and never have played them for the stories. I enjoy the game never holding my hand, and I enjoy having the freedom to navigate through the levels, and play through them at my own pace, with whatever weapons or builds I want, and with no restrictions. All of my favorite games are like this. I never engage with the stories because that's not what I'm here for. The story could be S tier for all I know, but I'm not going to engage with it.

    • @LIGHTNING_07
      @LIGHTNING_07 Год назад +5

      @ChaosSoulYT I respect that and I don't fault you for not caring about the story. In this instance I can tell you from someone who has played and beat all 3 dark souls games, bloodborne, sekiro, and elden ring. the one thing this game does differently from pretty much all of those is having a very cohesive story and it is the main focus of the game outside of the gameplay of course.

    • @seriouslydon_t
      @seriouslydon_t 5 месяцев назад +3

      @@ChaosSoulYT I can understand that, but when right after you comment that you should be able to customize your character... well no, the story is the reason you can't customize your character. That's the whole point of the thing, so it's definitely not a fair critic haha I mean, the character P is based on is basically everywhere in the game after all

    • @Olliecksdee
      @Olliecksdee 4 месяца назад

      @@ChaosSoulYT I agree with the OP I was onboard with your review up until you said that and in this comment you say "the story could be S tier but I'm not gonna engage with it" it's honestly so ignorant it's insane. Like you ask for 2 things which will be in direct contradiction with the storyline: DLC in the middle of the campaign, and character creation/customization. At this point you're just asking for a different game and it's not really a criticism, I would prefer more open areas like Dark Souls or ER but they didn't set out to do that in this game so how can you complain about it. Also if you remove the linearity you ruin pacing of the boss difficulty which is something ER suffers from massively. I disagree that they should add magic at all honestly it doesn't fit the combat style and I disagree they should make the parry window bigger, your parry continues into a block which gives you regain if you attack it's literally already OP, the game isn't sekiro you don't need to perfect parry everything.
      Appreciate the high effort review tho.

    I'm up to the last boss and I agree, this game is incredible and, for me, up there will all of the Souls games (I actually like it more than those), damn near up to ER, Sekiro and BB. I was not expecting this at all, frankly, the demo felt clunky at first and the puppet theme felt sort of contrived. Boy did they move past that, and quickly. I do think the game is linear because it is much more overtly story-focused than the From games, but I do think a couple DLCs allowing you to explore off the beaten path would be highly welcome.

    I personally find the first of black rabbit brotherhood fights to be fair because the eldest becomes relatively passive when another rabbit is on the battlefield only occasionally doing a dash attack towards the player periodically.
    I beat the boss relatively quickly on my level 10 run and it still felt fair because I could fish for backstabs against the npc enemies and the move set of the eldest is fun and satisfying to dodge and parry.
    Just stay as far from the eldest as you can and let the faster enemy run towards you and then the eldest will never go for any of his more dangerous moves.

  • @GameBooAdvancePlus
    @GameBooAdvancePlus Год назад +1

    I have to hard disagree with your opinion on black rabbits, but I've seen people just try to bruteforce the big guy or one at a time without realizing it.
    In the first fight, when assistance comes the Big Brother will lower his aggression MASSIVELY. He will stay back and only ocassionally do a charge attack with a loud audio cue. Of course, if you try to ignore this and rush him anyway, his attack patterns will be the same. Which is probably where your feelings that "these enemies are clearly different bosses with no consideration of what would happen if mashed together" comes from. Its just objectively wrong, because neowitz DID adjust the enemies specifically to work together and will push back if you try to ignore it.
    Same for the second fight too, only one of the rabbits will rush you at a time while the siblings only provide support with loud audio queues. The only difference is in the final phase, where Big Brother will bull full tilt the entire time. So the idea is you have all the siblings dead before big bro comes out. Which is simple health bar management.

    Just so you know, from what i noticed with the eldest brother after doing the fight in ng+, he will only get in the mix if you get too close to him. Like the game wants you to focus on one of the other family member that's on the field until they back off and you can continue just fighting the eldest. Except for the one running attack he does of course that you mentioned. It seemed like if i fought the other guys further away from him, he doesn't bother you. But the 2nd encounter doesn't do a good enough job splitting aggro in my opinion.

Truly spooky atmosphere.

    Scaling works the same in dark souls. The idea is when ur still low level u focus on one stat and then as you get stronger and you can spare levels on other damaging stats, like in ng+, you can do more damage. Its like that in elden ring & dark souls 3 as well. Scaling in more than one stat is almost always superior to an s scaling in one stat. It makes sense now that i have 100 in both technique & motivity, putting a motivity crank on my two dragon sword (which makes it scale C in both motivity & technique) improves its damage dramatically!

    • @sheltongolden4394
      @sheltongolden4394 Год назад

      Yeah, ChaosSoul did say that he would play with sound off sometimes, so I imagine not being to hear the big brother rushing in to attack would be quite the detriment. Also, he appears to have not picked up on the fact the passive enemies will only fully attack if you are within a certain radius. So, if you just keep distance between you and the passive enemy, they will only do one weak attack periodically instead of the full move set. If you attack while they are grouped up, they will tear you apart.

    You should really give sekiro another chance. Although it’s not necessarily a soulslike, it still has the FromSoft challenge, polish & is the most rewarding game in the FromSoft catalog to master imo. It took me many failed attempts over a few years before it finally clicked, but once it did it had its hooks in me in a way that only bloodborne had previously. Like you, the setting and story don’t exactly do it for me, but the moment to moment gameplay & ability to replay boss fights at any time is second to none. Literally nothing in any other fromsoft game feels as good as mastering & executing mikiri counters.

  • @kamalasishdeb4710

    I think many souls players have been clamoring for a bloodborne sequel that any game which even remotely resembles it becomes a good game automatically. There are definitely good elements in Lies of P but this is a farcry from 'the best souls like ever' as people have been calling it. The story, the environment, the voice acting, sound that really sets the mood. But Round 8 took many elements from Fromsoft without really understanding what made those elements great in the first place. I always believe that making a good souls like is like making a good hot sauce. You can crank up the heat as much as you want but if it doesn't have any flavors, its bad. They took parry system from sekiro. Cool. But they forgot the parry in sekiro has a rhythm to it. Genichero teaches you that rhythm and from that point you fall in love with it. Lies of P has no set rhythm to it. Sometimes you have to press guard right at the moment of attack and sometimes before the attack to have a perfect guard. Also there is no indications as to when the enemy will become groggy. Moreover in sekiro as the boss starts to loose health, it becomes easier to break it's posture. Also this game, even though it has its fare share of dex and strength weapons, it has no concept of poise whatsoever. I have situation where a normal enemy took a heavy charge attack from my hammer and still manages to hit me 😂. Level design is as linear as it can be. Like its not even 5 percent of DS3 or BB. And boy don't start me on the health pool of enemies. With fully upgraded weapons it's taking me 3- 4 hits to kill enemies. But I will give them credit for great number of enemy types. Atleast they didn't make a game with 15 enemy types like wolong. And the studio love their two full health bar boss fight. This is just lame design to make a game difficult. Elden Ring is 4 to 5 times the size of Lies of P. Yet Malenia was the only boss which has two full health bar. Rykard doesn't count as it's a gimmick fight. I have seen people make boss guide where they a using canisters and grenades to win the late game bosses, that's just proof of bad design. At the end, as a fan of souls game to all the companies trying to be Fromsoft is that, come up with your own unique style of game design and amaze us rather than trying to mimic the elements from Fromsoft. Because the more you are busy copying the less you are creating.

    You are right, why do we judge a smaller company that hasn’t had the 14 years of experience, feedback, critiques etc… Although the dev and neowiz have inspiration, this is their first soulslike game and i think they’ve done great. But really, if you do enjoy the combat and story in this game give sekiro a go, if it’s the atmosphere and lore, bloodborne. Think of it as the demon souls of neowiz (the foundation, the granddaddy, the og) if the dev capitalises on the souls genre and builds off of it we just might see some really f’n good games (which in turn creates a competitive nature between companies, giving us better games)

  • @cweber9112
    @cweber9112 Год назад

    I think the bigger argument is the lack of poise is why Motivity builds are weaker. You can be interrupted from a heavy attack every single time, so you lose your window to attack. Quite a few of these bosses are coded for input reading, and once they see you attack they throw a small jab at you to interrupt your attack. Its why they had to add a form of hyperarmour when you used the "blue attacks" ( for the life of me I can't think of the actual term, but its the special weapon attacks). You could be winding one of them up, and then be completely knocked out of that animation from a small jab while also losing that resource.
    I swapped to an advanced build and beat the game with it. The large weapons in the game are just too slow for not having any poise to trade blows with. A mix of Motivity and Dexterity is the way to go if you want to use more than just 3 weapons in the game.

    • @Getdown8319
      @Getdown8319 11 месяцев назад

      I thought motivity builds were weak at first because the poise was basically non existent which is my only real gripe I had with the game. Then I realized that strength build was a lot better to use as a punish build where u block and parry and their attack is strong enough to when I finally get ur opening 1 or two hits u recover your rally health completely almost. And having such a high Block percentage allows that playstyle.

Similarly to Lies of P, it does take a bit for the combat differences to "click" (especially since Sekiro emphasizes parrying then throws Chain Ogre at you, a boss you should not focus on parrying), but once it does, it has some of the most satisfying bosses to fight in any souls game.

    but when it comes to certain areas/stages, i was questioning myself over and over "why the fuck do i play this game" for real some areas are so fucking HORRENDOUS, full of enemies in groups of 3-4 and its getting a little bit tiring to deal with all those "decisions" post chapter 7
    game is great, it plays smooth and flawlessly (played on pc 1440p/240fps)
    story wise is unique
    the soundtracks are awesome
    the dialogues are quite good for a "soulslike" game
    but yeah the game is becoming a little bit tiring post chapter 7 and it does not rewarding equally of the difficulty

      The areas in the second half of the game are definitely... different, however I wouldn't say they are that out of the ordinary by souls standards. There were a lot more annoying enemy setups in the second half... but nothing that dark souls 2 didn't do... so I'd say the second half of the game falls to dark souls 2 standards in the areas. It doesn't ruin the game though at all

    Pheew, finally got to your review hehe...There's alot of flaws in Lies of P, especially on the gameplay side - however? It's an incredible achievement for their 1st game in the genre and even tho i still haven't finished it, this is my favorite Souls-like ever! Additionally, I would love for this developer to google the poise mechanic. Also, I would love to on occasion stagger an enemy. Sorry, not in this game. I am surprised you had a problem with DS2 being hard for the sake of hard and feeling clunky, and you think this is great. I guess it’s an agree to disagree situation.

    • @pocketbacon9636
      @pocketbacon9636 6 месяцев назад

      @@ChaosSoulYTI don’t really take your point tbh. Nearly every Soulslike also has a parry. This does not excuse a poorly tuned dodge. The dodge in this game is as bad as a 0 agility dodge in DS2, which also had a parry but took a beating for these same clunky mechanics. And clunky is exactly the right descriptor for something with this lacking a dodge, slower movement speed, no ability to stagger from attacks, and no poise.

    Have you played the demo? Did they change the movement and combat feel because it 100% was clunky and a little bit unresponsive/delayed. But you also mention ds1 and that also feels like shit compared to the newer titles so maybe you are just a bit biased or don't care that much about a bit of clunkiness. Which is fine but no need to call people liars because they had a different exprience from you.

      Played an hour of the Demo and put it down, gave it a chance on release and have been absolutely loving it, dodge has been fixed up and the game feels perfectly responsive.. My only issue is too many sooks complained about difficulty and now devs made the game easier so it's a lot more of a walkthrough, pre patch version of the game was absolutely perfect in my eyes, enemies have way less hp and stagger easier now and too easy to level up...

      @@ChaosSoulYT I feel that my biggest gripe with the combat system is that the perfect parries sometimes feel very off and unforgiving. Whereas a game such as Sekiro gives you lots of room with parries and deflects, Lies of P simply doesn't. Couple that together with red attacks only being "parryable" and the constant interuption caused by enemies because you don't have hyperarmour for heavier weapons, and I can understand why many people feel frustrated with the fights.
      I've personally felt that there are some HUGE difficulty spikes in the mid game (act 4 to 6/7ish, After victor it felt fine), that really demotivated me. The BRB boss in particular really caused me a lot of grief, since I feel that it highlights the design flaws inherent in the combat system, and even more so with the perfect guards.
      BUT. It is still a fun and satisfying game if you can get past those things, although it has yet to give me the same feeling bosses like Sekiro or DS gave me for overcoming them.

      Parry in this is different than sekiro, gotta press it half a second earlier and hold it a bit longer to get your full guard up.. Like instead of having a gripe about it why not just learn it? Didn't have an issue with perfect parry through the entire game even the last few bosses that half multiple attacks in quick succession, just seems like more of a skill issue on your end tbh@@jessehendriks2877
