The Donner Party was a happier wagon train than this hyper tragified misery tour. Great acting though, but a lighter touch on the "Heart of Darkness: Oregon Trail" would make it a more enjoyable (and realistic) story.
”We weren't scared of no nightmares, sh*t, we went to sleep to escape them!" One of my favorite moment of the show, it's like you could feel it in Thomas eyes, great acting 🔥🔥
Sometimes the best scenes are the ones where not a lot of dialog is spoken but to see the raw emotion of the actors that captures the moment perfectly. The scene with Tom Hanks and Tim McGraw here in the beginning really hit home and shows exactly what I mean. Respect 100%
You can just see the regret on his face, to me it looks like he was finally understanding what he was fighting for, the enslavement of human beings. In the next clip we see him being respectful to an African American worker. He knew the mistakes he made and he owned them. Hats off to Tim McGraw and Taylor Sheridan, they killed this!
The scene with Tom Hanks is more powerful than I first believed. If you look closely James Dutton is wearing the Confederate soldier uniform and Tom Hanks wearing the Union uniform. When Elsa says that he was in a union prison for 3 years this was probably the moment just before he entered it. Two opposite sides sitting down looking at the devastation of the battle, powerful!

Great stuff! Very good by any standard I have known and I am sort of an old rooster. I'm halfway through the season and the big names are good but don't discount Isabel May,that young lady has her share of talent too. Heck,so far everyone fits/makes their part, this series is a must watch for me!
Tim McGraw,Faith Hill, Sam Elliot, are all great veteran actors and all have outstanding performances in this series. I believe the Emmy goes to Isabel May hands down !! Her acting and the character she plays are incredible!!! This show,in fact, should run away with all the awards this year!!
Easily. She was given one of the best lead parts in a while for a woman, and she executes every moment of it with grace. I saw an interview where she talks about her process of studying for the part. My favorite thing that she said was that when she was hired, the first thing she told Taylor was "you have to get me on a horse right away". The second thing is about how she wrote down notes for herself, in each episode, about another formality that she was going to drop as she travels West. Whether it was how she carried herself in the saddle, or how she spoke.
As a teenager, I had a very bad case of poison ivy infection. Bad enough to keep me from going to school for more than a week. I never wished I was dead, but I sure wished the itching would stop. I learned that, the more you scratched, the more you itched! I also learned to tolerate the itching and not scratch!
I think the MOST powerful dialogue scenes is one overlooked: Yosef: You know this Shea: I know it Yosef: you know how to take the leg Shea: I know how Yosef: Take it Shea goes to the group: Yosef leg gots to come off. We should do it now Them- they get up, grab knives and just sat “alright” - The bluntness and the non emotion with the few words show that back then, you were resigned to the logic of things. No discussion. Nothing. You understood what had to be done. Put urself in Yosef’s shoes and then imagine how the conversation would have went. I would’ve been like- wait!!! What? There’s no meds? What about the pain? How? OmG
Many great scenes in this series. But the one that moved me was Sam Elliott telling the story of taking the memory of his wife to the coast. I considered it on par with John Wayne telling his story in True Grit and Ben Johnson telling his story about skinny dipping with his lover in The Last Picture Show, which won both the Oscar. If only this had been a movie, Sam Elliott should have won an Oscar. It was that powerful a scene.

Finest western show since The Lonesome Dove! Loved everything about it other than I would've changed up the show's final few minutes a bit.
I never tire of this show. Timeless…magical….
Some of my Irish ancestors travelled on the Oregon trail. I have distant relatives in California today. I'm still in Ireland, some more of the ancestors stayed at home
In my humble opinion a Master piece of a series.
Wish it was able to be viewed more. It needs to be on a wider spectrum of streaming services!
Loved when Sam Elliott told her why he kept living and hadn't quit.
I cried like a baby...but then I never thought of it that way. The show was absolutely amazing.
One of the gems of these days...really. Really a work of art.
This series would have to be one of the best I have ever watched, totally loved it.
Love this show, actors and music. Beautiful.
Tom hanks somehow snagged all the best roles this past year
His agent is on a role
I heard it's because him and Tim are really good friends and tim asked him to do it as a favor.
My personal favorite line, this is poison oak and poison ivy. It wont kill you, youll just wish you were dead. First time i heard it, i could have died laughing. Elliot just deadpans that line.
The best tv series ever this and Yellowstone
I was sure this would be good because it’s Taylor Sheridan, but this passed good a long ways. I’m usually not a super fan of anything with a woman lead but this may be/ no it is the best thing I’ve seen in a long time.
A woman lead works as well as any male when it's believable and realistic. Mr. Sheridan knows what the hell he is doing.
I'm only half way through this series and I've never cried so much watching a film or TV show *EVER!* This is a true classic of cinema which equals and even betters all/any of the greatest productions of any previous era.
*SPOILER ALERT* in the comments.
Tim McGraw definitely deserves an Emmy sheesh. Elsa’s milkshake sure brings the boys to the yard
I'm lovin 'it! all the actors are great❤
As a father the line of “That's my heart you're runnin' off with. You better cradle it like a egg.” Damn I felt that
1883 is the best thing on TV
Hadn't realized how good this thing was. Wow. Binge.
great show great writing
Taylor Sheridan ! Thee best Western show of all time
Tim is a great father figure
I enjoyed seeing the depth of the Indian characters.
The best MOVIE ever created was this ten episode masterpiece 🥰 I’m still crying
Sam not only gave her his knife but also his heart. Because in that moment he lost both❤
I love how he got his ass whipped by her father, stood up like a man and respectfully said “I’m not asking for her, I’m taking her bcus I love her”
This show made laugh and cry at the same time!
Scene with Tom Hanks was phenomenal 😢😢
Epic production.
Great show. Just finished it. The scene with Tom Hanks was great..
Lonesome Dove and 1883 are two of the best westerns I have ever watched.
Nomination worthy for sure
What an amazing cast. A real throwback to how gritty they were back then, couldn't have asked for a better cast. MY only disappointment was the ending, It was SAD as all heck. And out of all those people the only really happy ending was the captain with his immigrant GF and children, and they were one of the only ones to actually make the whole trip. I guess Elliot character did make it to where he wanted but how that played out was sad also lol I wish the sequel series would make more references to that original family (james dutton) since they were the founders of the home and land.
My grandfather was born in 1895. This western mini series best describes his experiences outwest when he was a young man.
Where's the Billy Bob Thornton sheriff scene???
As a kid grew up in the 70s this is refreshing I feel like I’m watching a old western on wtog channel 44
io ne ho visto tante di serie di questo genere, ma questa e in assoluto la piu bella, non mi sono annoiato un solo minuto in tutti e 10 episodi. complimenti
This and the sequel are 2 of the best tv series i ve watched ! And i ve watched hundreds !
I cannot believe the lack of actor/actress Emmy nominationsf or this body of work....
Hollywood doesn't fancy westerns and I could care less about their silly award shows. I'm a western movie fan first and foremost.
Hollywood is yoke-land.
I didn't know that the General was Tom Hanks... just figured that out now 😬
This shows, i mean all of them 1883, 1923 and the Yellowstone they're all just beautifully written and directed.
Tim is one hell of an actor
In my opinion the best western ever made.
I watch this over and over again and keep learning more things about our last history that’s so valuable and even though it was brutal at times, epic tale, beautiful script, and very talented people, everyone of them even the background personnel who displayed such beauty and hardships, Thank you for showing this movie❤️❤️🙏🙏💚🇺🇸
Great stuff! Very good by any standard I have known and I am sort of an old rooster. I'm halfway through the season and the big names are good but don't discount Isabel May,that young lady has her share of talent too. Heck,so far everyone fits/makes their part, this series is a must watch for me!
Such an awesome series.
Buena ,buena y muy buena..un western a la antigua.
It’s interesting. The director said Faith Hill had only acted while singing previously. Such talent
awesome series
As a teenager, I had a very bad case of poison ivy infection. Bad enough to keep me from going to school for more than a week. I never wished I was dead, but I sure wished the itching would stop. I learned that, the more you scratched, the more you itched! I also learned to tolerate the itching and not scratch!
Sam ❤️Lighting with the Yellow Hair.
I think the MOST powerful dialogue scenes is one overlooked:
Yosef: You know this
Shea: I know it
Yosef: you know how to take the leg
Shea: I know how
Yosef: Take it
Shea goes to the group: Yosef leg gots to come off. We should do it now
Them- they get up, grab knives and just sat “alright”
- The bluntness and the non emotion with the few words show that back then, you were resigned to the logic of things. No discussion. Nothing. You understood what had to be done. Put urself in Yosef’s shoes and then imagine how the conversation would have went. I would’ve been like- wait!!! What? There’s no meds? What about the pain? How? OmG
This was a great Series......
1883 is a masterpiece!
This series gives me chills, sucks me in like a straw! Damn! I Love It!❤❤❤❤😊
Yes is awesome smooth good you have to see it
great to deets and gus again
I've only seen bits & pieces of it so far? But would really Love too see substanchly more, or the Entire Series preferably. What I have seen has been Awesome.
Ennis was so cool
The scene of the Spanish helmet reminded me of Dances with wolves.
"Thousands of men died under you and you never shed a tear for them." Shea- "The hell I didn't."
