What do you guys think? I dont think its a replacement yet but its pretty freaking wild with the new tech!
Not yet but it's coming
Mirrorless is still the way to go, it still looks like phone footage even if it's good for a phone. It still is looking like phone footage..
its funny because the tittle says "Can The iPhone 11 Pro Replace Mirrorless Cameras" and the Iphone is already a mirrorless camera
Getting there!
no mirrorless has way more shallow deepth of field and not as good colors I think. And the poor audio of course.
Oh heck yeah! I’m on day 4 of a road trip only using my iPhone and not regretting it!... except for a few times I reaaaally wanted my EOS R.
Anyways, see ya soon!
potato jet doesn't have a jet that's a bummer :/
I love me some Potato Jet! Say hi to Sam!
Me anytime i decide to bring my phone solo with no DSLR. Why didnt i just bring it!? Say hi to sam for me too.
It seems apple is doing big marketing to sell this phone.
Hey tater!
Dude, I straight up didn't notice you were filming on the iphone at the start. And I'm watching on a big 24 inch monitor. Damn.
Marco Moon for real!! Same here, I thought he was gonna get to use it afterwards 😂
I think buying iPhone 11 would be much more convenient for me then buying camera
@@vidpid2113 I think if you aren't going to use the benefits of interchangeable lense cameras (good glass, raw files, better video, possibility to work) it's not worth getting one.
Hmm, big 24 inch monitor?😂😂 lmao
I WANT ONE!!!!! I would so love to have this phone in my arsenal for those days that you just need something small to work with and also those spur of the moment events when you don't have your gear with you. Matti, you're a rock star and looking forward to the next vid. Thanks again.🤑🤘👌👍💪
Travel More! Worry Less!
I'm interested in the peak design backpack I was considering buying one myself. are you gonna film a review?
DAMN! That actually looks sooo solid. After about 2 min I totally forgot about the quality and just was paying attention to the unboxing and such lol. Hilarious. The audio inside is actually really good. I would deff consider it for certain situations.
The audio is pretty great in the wind! I’m impressed
For some reason I really liked the flow of this vlog and small things you edited in, checking the audio in the computer and then continuing the video, mailtime and genuine comments, cleaning the studio etc, was really good. Really shows how you can make a good video with decernt camera (phone) and great storytelling or good flowing edit.
i think you need an app like filmic to lock in exposure, it kept switching on you
Amazing as always Matti! So inspired by your content and it definitely influences my videos. Huge thank you 🙏
Thanks for all of these tips you really help me start off my RUclips journey. I’m sure you inspire and help a lot of small RUclipsrs like me! Keep up the great work !👍🏼🔥
Definitely upgrading to that phone next month! Even slowing down I'm blown away by your ability to put out content. I'm doing 30 days of b roll with some other guys in your discord and daily is so hard. I don't know how you ever did daily. It's hard enough doing 1 minute shorts... I can't imagine putting together cohesive stories with that kind of turn around.
Shure MV88 with lightning. Its small and audio is a solid improvement
Hey I find if you turn off stereo audio recording in settings, it helps audio sound much better for vocals and Vlogging
Forgot why I had you subbed for a second, but this vid was in my recommended feed and man.. I love your style!
Hey Matti, I was wondering if you experience a lot of camera noise in the EOS R when filming in 8bit C-Log with ISO at 400 in a well lit room?
At one point I forgot this was being filmed on a iPhone, the only issue I see is ur shutter speed seems to high
PETER'S SEQUENCE : COFFEE
MATTI'S SEQUENCE : GYM
yeah i get that
Xave Alda 🤣

SO SO HAPPY TO SEE A NEW VIDE LIVE FROM MATT LOVE YOUR CHANNEL MATTI AND YOUR VIDEOS IS SO EPIC
When we were first getting started with our channel we recorded with our phone and it worked. Sometimes we were surprised with the footage that turned out. It definitely takes knowing its limits but a huge disadvantage besides what was mentioned was it over heating. That could also be because we are in Florida but we still use our iPhone sometimes.
Kai saying “Hi Daddy!” Was toooooo cute.
pretty cool right, I've never seen a blond Asian boy.
How can you not like a guy who sets his priorities and loves his family? Great vlog man! Enjoy life!
11:08 that sky in the top right is shaking all over the place. Looks as though it's stabilising the important, middle of the shot - at the detriment of the edges. The colours and skin tones at the start of the vlog in the studio were really nice.
I think you can vlog on any iPhone ... they're all that good. And with the iPhone 11 being the very best of the best right now! Same audio problems with all of the iPhones of course when it comes to windy days and outside noises. Nice iPhone vlog Matti! Kai was soooo happy to see Daddy!
I find myself watching Matti everytime... somehow I love it better than Peter long term. There is something about your videos that gives me satisfaction.
Thanks bro
I'm surprised you didn't mentioned the lack of depth of field. That's first thing I noticed.
Nomadic Julien all he spoke about was the mic
Depth of field isn't important
@@alfviktor.101 say whaaa???
Do you mean lack of shallow depth of field? It has depth of field and it’s very deep.
donny bristol depth of field (or lack of depth of field actually) isn’t that important.
Especially not when vlogging. If you are making a cinematic movie then yes.
I literally just put out a vlog last night using that same song lol. Nice, Matti. There are smaller clip on mics (even from Rode) that will still make for an audio improvement! The stabilization is so good though!
Thanks for the vlog Matti! Always wanted to see a skilled videographer like you try this
I didn't think the audio was that bad. It's a VLOG and not a feature film/docu where you need that perfect audio. Heard you just fine. Just my take.
any idea about the name of the mic he tried yo hook with the iphone ?
@@JustinDuhamel it was a Rode videomicro iphone mic
Thanks !
EASY FIX FOR AUDIO: You should try the Rode Video Mic Me-L for iPhone. You don't even need a dongle 👍
Thats adds a obstruction to the nice clean simple phone shape that fits in your pocket. Also with that you have to have a dead cat on it with any sort of breeze (which makes it even more noticeable and bigger) because it picks up wind noise even worse.
Does it show up in the ultra-wide?
@@unquestionabletv I haven't tried it on the new iphone yet but I don't think it does. It's very small.
@@g3mccotter Try the sure mobil mics
Alex Jumper Shure MV88 or Shure MV88 +
Very cool content and high quality production; thanks for sharing
I used my iPhone 7 while on my last trip and despite it’s not as good as this one seems it was great for those quick moments I wanted to record something happening or something I was doing. My camera was set up for photography and having this option was 👌🏽 it also doesn’t draw too much attention!
That intro was awesome, I didn't really notice the quality difference in the intro. But it could have been because the transitions were fluid and quick.
as someone who would absolutely notice the 'lower quality' intro sequence, i totally didn't. maybe thats because the content is engaging
I use it exclusively for my YT; it surprised me how QUALITY the audio is, even compared to a cardioid mic! Also, I have the same color/case as you - love that midnight green. Let me guess, 512g as well? Of course!
Great review. I have been using my iPhone 6s+ for a while now. It's so convenient.
the smart HDR still blows my mind
I thought the quality was just fine. The story was there so gear really doesn’t matter.
I am curious, did you ever use the front facing camera or was it all on the normal cameras?
I am curious about the front facing cameras vlogging potential too 🤔 though tbh the quality of the video doesn’t have to be spectacular. As long as the audio is good and the story is great we would all watch it. But I know Matti has standards to uphold 😜
should be back camera as the video is 4k. If you upscale front facing camera to 4k that will be a pixel video. pun.
@@Tomaz14 The front camera too records in 4k.
Eunoia I just tried to do an unboxing video with the front facing and if wasn’t as good.
Have a look at Jonathon Morrison’s YT channel. Did a video about 11 pro 4K selfie cam for use. Amazing. That with filmic pro and a mic (the rode with the lightning plug, or the Shure MV)
Flashes of light and color change in the background of the office shoot as you moved your head forward and back. And face definition at times looked a little flat. But otherwise the phone did a fantastic job. I was surprised that even w/ the wind, the sound was respectable w/ what seemed like compensating effort being made by it. Yes - the stabilization looked great. And a note on the Canon EOS R - they are the only ones to my knowledge that took the bold step to digital stabilization in body, and no one is talking about it. So I agree w/ you that that really seems like the future - the phones, the go-pros, etc. show prove this out. It would be fantastic if the EOS R was software/firmware upgradable w/ improvements on that digital stabilization, win win.
I've not been too keen on the skin tones in the videos I've seen. I wonder if using a different camera app or manual white balance settings would change things. Other than that, the tech and possibilities in your pocket are amazing.
Hmmm your skin tones look like your tanned, very saturated, there is a bit of noise I can see in some scenes although the audio is good straight out of the camera I did notice in some scenes it was playing up and it’s not as sharp as your Eos R but for a camera straight out of the pocket, it’s dope 👌🏼👌🏼
Itz Si 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Everyone seems to be missing that he is not utilizing a manual recording app where you can get smooth skin tones and coloring across whole image!
@@LukeSchaeferFilms ur right but if he does use a manual recording app then he will lose the stabilisation. So that's a bummer.
Your comment summed up the analysis. Well done (Y)
It’s a phone. Lol and it’s also RUclips. This would be a GREAT substitute if a cam is being maintained at a manufacturer, OR if your batteries are dead for a run and gun style though! Not to mention if you’re just starting out and don’t wanna pay for an actual CAM!
I think with cellphones, lighting makes a massive difference. The audio and stabilization is impressive though.
Congrats on all the success Matti. Well deserved. 🙏
Hey Matti, When you drove around filming yourself, did you film using the front or back camera?
Rode makes a mic that plugs directly into the lighting port. Check it out. I think other companies make them as well. Then you do not need a rig.
Right, I use ClipMic Digital: Sennheiser Lav coupled with Apogee A/D converter. I've used mine for a couple of years. It's great. amzn.to/2ofjc2y
Yep I use a lightning port Shure mic on my iPhone with an extra windshield if windy; great sound.
Matti: Benny, well done, well done. Just smart, smart design
Me: One might even say, peak design...
Very nice review and the iPhone 11 pro is awesome I use on my own channel this week with the built in microphone and it worked well.
I really can’t wait to try this new phone. I have been using my 7 plus on all my films. The 7 plus is already good, but i want to see how much of a difference there is between these phones.
Shooting my first iPhone 11 vlog today. Hoping it goes well. I use the same tripod. ;)
Mike Lauper 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
"This is DOOSH BAGS new backpack" 🤔
HAHA went right to the comments
Man you get some of the dopest things sent to you 🙌🏼 keep up the good work Matti
This is awesome!! Thanks for explaining everything, I was just about to buy Cannon then I am changing my mind. Thanks again!!
Besides being stereo, the iPhone microphone sounds absolutely killer (in the studio...)
LVC true...
First of all I was surprised with the sound. Even with the wind, usable at least. Stabilization, I mean come on. That's crazy. Quality obviously not on a mirrorless level but, for me at least, it doesn't have to be and it's solid AF as it is. I mean imagine if someone use the camera to take a call or write a text or check the emails. I used my previous iphone 8 to shoot, edit in a free app and upload a tone of videos and photos too, ( check my IG if you want : @teo_axio. ) You can do some work for sure. Especially if you're using an app to have control over everything in this tiny camera ( which I never did by the way. ) My honest opinion, it's a different world and yes, I'm sure one day smartphones will be up there to compare the quality too with digital cameras but I don't think it's necessary or we need that in general.
I'm using a Canon m100 with a 50mm 1.8 Canon lens with a total cost of bellow 500 bucks. At the end of the day, the more time and energy you're spending to be better at photography/videography the better. It's up to you.
Looks great sounds great. Another great video. Thank you Matti.
Awesome, video Mattie and it has been a while. Actually, it came out pretty nice definitely enjoyed Deb.😉👍🏼✌
I couldn’t tell *barely the difference on a smartphone haaaa
The quality is totally sufficient. Camera phones have come along way.
Juan Palmero agree. Even I can do lots of decent film with just the iphone 7 plus.
The iPhone 7 is still an amazing camera!!
SaL your PaL yeah buddy. It is still rockin. But it is too tempting to upgrade though. Ahahaha
The quality is more than sufficient when you realize we have become a social media world. The vast majority of people these days aren't sitting at 30 inch desktops pixel peeping your photos. They are looking at them on their 4-5 inch smartphones as they browse social media sites. Even most of my clients I shoot for who own clothing companies are doing everything on social media these days. I haven't needed large prints for anything in years. iPhone cameras are more than enough for most these days unless you are shooting something demanding that requires lots of high ISOs or a ton of DR.
@@michaelbell75 Interesting from a pro as sit pondering whether to buy a Sony A6400......when I have an iPhone 11. And an RX100 ii. Maybe I'll save myself some money and use what I've got :)
wow! this is nuts! thanks for sharing!
Hey matti thanks for such amazing videos
Matti opens more boxes then I will ever open in a year.
Daniel Clarke lol that must mean you don’t have amazon prime 😂
@@irhymeswithpie 🤣🤣🤣
I didn't even notice at the start that you were filming on the iPhone till you said it, then I noticed for a bit. BUT about 30 seconds later completely forgot and didn't notice again! This was a great video! Would love to see what a locked down shot where you sit at your desk looks like using the telephoto lens and the iPhone further back. I think it could give a bit more depth of field.
Useful to know what you think. I’m currently deciding on which camera to get or stick with my iPhone.
Smartphone, GoPro or DSLR choices choices choices.
Thank you for the great info
8:50 the background is dizzy
Discord wins again! Notification squad!
Man it’s amazing! Great video 😁
off topic...whats that bump/lump on the back of your neck?
I don't know if iPhone can beat those cameras but what I do know is we don't need expensive gear to make videos all we need is any camera that can shoot a video and a passion to create
people need to shoot with iphone to make it look like its pro
behind any user shooting video with iphone for" profesional "video there s an apple user
Nice vlog, however I’ve noticed your arm and finger seems to be weirdly long which I guess is due to the wide angle.
The ultra-wide does that. Gotta film subject in the center. When you film using rear camera gotta hold phone really really low or will capture your finger.
Matty’s such an amazing film-maker ! 🎥
I loved it Matti! ☺️👌🏼 Is not bad at all.
Why don't you use Bluetooth headphones instead of the massive microphone?
Trash audio. Try recording using the AirPods as a mic and listen to the difference
Zachary Eversole Galaxy buds have a not so good mic as well
Good little review. It’s pissing me off that nobody did all this when Samsung released their phone with 3 lenses back in March. As usual, everyone acts like Apple released something new and groundbreaking.
Andy Smith I totally agree
If people who purchased the Samsung did not feel the need to make a video about it, why should that piss you off? People who bought the iPhone wanted to post videos on it. It’s up to the android user to make a video on it 🤷🏽♀️
I’ve been a big fan of vlogging on the iPhone. I love how simple it is and how it feels more natural.
Honestly the video quality looks bomb to me! I mean obviously not as good as your usual setup but still if you filmed everything on the iPhone I would not complain at all. So good
Oh shoot! This will be interesting 🙇🏻♂️ and that intro 😁👌 the unboxing reminds me of Casey back in the day. Alright, after watching your video, I’m thinking it’s time to make the jump from the 6s to the 11 pro... and all tools have their place 😁👊👍
danz beard same thoughts exactly.
I’m just debating between this, or something like the rx100 vii, after you consider that’s only a camera these are pretty comparable prices
Great timing for this. I feel like the iPhone 11 is a great time to really incorporate “my phone” in my gear in a real way. Wish me luck :)
That in and outro song makes me feel niceeee
It’s unbelievable to me that phones today with such powerful cpus and storage can’t record decent video without strong compression artifacts.
Music producer here and I am actually surprised by the sound. It's not bad.
sound on iPhone videos has been amazing for a while now, been filming concerts and so on, and the music quality blew my mind given I was usually in front of the stage and I was expecting a lot of bad noise
@@m28cj Thats dope, didn't realize that.
this comparison is everything, soo helpful. thank you!
The audio and footage on the iPhone Pro is really impressive. If I didn’t recently spend money on camera equipment... I would totally splurge on this!
The best part, the iPhone 11 camera sensors are all made by Sony.
Made by companies purchased by sony
but the software made by apple which is what makes it good
Matthew Paquette the best part is apple software, because I 100% know that if I will buy Iphone 11 pro I wil recieve normal fast wide mobile cam
Matthew Paquette the bad part is that I can buy two-three legendary dslr bodies nikon d700 for that price
AsianWithHat lol I have Sony a640 best image quality
iPhone camera seems soft and skin tones are literally Orange
Ryan Lennox-Bradley- those are easy fix tbh
Yes, more docs! The one on Jesse was so good, can’t wait to see the one on Potato Jet.
thanks for the video. i am a real estate photographer and have been experimenting with the iphone 11, not the pro. I was astounded by the is of this phone. i built a test, one gimbal stabilizer. it worked like a charm. have begun to advertise video walk throughs in the covid market, or lack thereof.
"Motion control spinny thing," so descriptive xD...
He stole Casey whole steal 😂
Da Culture TV Exactly. I made a comment about this as well. Matti needs to find his own style.
True that
Casey didn’t invent Vlogging. How many different ways can you do this?
1:39 @Matti, try the Rode Video Mic me-l. It improves the audio and snaps directly into the lightning jack. Pocket sized portability and immediate improvement. I’ve been using it for over a year and swear by it.
thank you i will pick one up! i have the iphone 11 pro max.
Thank you for the comparison. I feel like the audio was usable for the inside stuff. Not so much outside. What are you using to record with the built in app or something like filmic pro?
Matti, I enjoy your content and have been here a long time. So please accept the following criticism without any negativity and with all the due respect.
Your style is a copy of Casey Neistat. At least this is what it comes across as. The editing, transitions, speaking rhythm, the unboxing. All of it.
You are a great content creator and have a lot of talent to create your own style. Please consider that. 👍
Casey is a brilliant creator but he didn't "create" all the elements of his style. All these artists draw upon artistic methods that long proceeded them. They may prefer and implement certain techniques frequently but Casey studied movies extensively and you can see those techniques in his videos. Matti is a fantastic creator and I personally see him as completely different from Casey other then both are amazing at what they do. Casey is a ground breaking artist and the grand daddy of vlogging. Matti focuses on teaching techniques. Yes there is crossover but that is because it makes sense to use optimal techniques that work. Like how many people use similar transitions to Jesse Driftwood. He doesn't own those techniques, he never invented those techniques and the fact that he uses them and favours them and that others pick them up only highlights that they are a good way of creating transitions.
nothing is original, except nature.
It’s all good to vlog on your phone until people start calling you.
you can put it on flight mode when u vlogging!
True but what is it’s an emergency call .
Crash Tv most people put their phones on silent or away anyway when they make videos , so it’s no different.
You can set a do not disturb🤔
I just got the new iPhone within a year ago but this video makes me want to pay it off and go get the 11 pro!! I get nervous blogging with my DSLR and I only have 1 lens that has stabilization and not good for vlogging bc it’s too close. I don’t mind the sound bc I would sound less nervous with just the phone in my hand.
Excellent vlog. I’ve just switched back to Android for compatibility with my 360 but that was tempting.
Likes👍🏽👍🏽 for Matti just for being real about the iPhone 11 pro
I have a strong hunch that the next evolution of vlogging will be on phones and smaller agile devices as opposed to bigger DSLR Cameras. Yes, the quality may drop a bit but the agility, freedom, and creativity through apps phones offer will make it more engaging, appealing and mainstream.
Just a hunch 😬
I think you're right
Would love to hear another vlog shot on the 11 Pro with one of those small lightning port mics that both Shure and Rode make. Less obtrusive than using an adapter and cold shoe phone holder... and I bet way better sounding! (And pretty cheap since you’ll be done with it soon assuming the next iPhone has usb-c)
The only giveaway was that HDR flickr on the high end of the wall. Other than that after a few seconds this was totally believable as a "NOT MADE WITH A PHONE" video! Insane stuff!! Thanks for sharing Matti
