another year without COPS revamping. Man I don't want to use Substance Designer anymore, people is yelling for a substance alternative but there is no one, it's a monopoly. COPs and terrain tools are almost the same thing. Imagine the amount of people that hates adobe and would come for it to your package.
When Houdini Sneak Peek videos release it’s that time of the year where I don’t put the video in 1.5x nor 1.25x playback speeds like most things, but more like 0.75x and pause and rewind a often to try to understand what I just saw at a specific time. 8mins? More like 20mins it took me. Amazing job, this mammoth of a piece of software engineering is bonkers.
As an indie I appreciate the hell out of everything that SideFX have done and are doing for the smaller guys with such a great product. However, as an indie it's always frightening how fast SideFX are able to make a lot of the stuff I write obsolete these days. :D Great work guys.
SideFx along with the Blender foundation have become the most beloved companies in the industry and they deserve it, these kinds of rich updates can only be expected from them.
Well, they do have one of the original engineer ladies that worked on Maya as far back as when it was owned by Alias. lol. Houdini probably has a lot of people that have essentially spent their entire career in this field.
@@juancarlosgzrz It is now, yeah, but she worked on Maya way back when Maya was considered good and had ground-breaking features. By today's standards though, you are absolutely right. It lags behind even free programs like Blender.
always hard at work, many studios use houdini so they can easily be noted of bugs and possible updates for their softwares which makes houdini unparalell
iam glad they bring a solid support for ocean in KARMA, it was a little buggy and cryptic in Houdini 19, a lot of people didn't understand how to make the displacement work in Karma, is it user error or a just buggy thing, as of the rest of the features, iam always mesmerized on the work the Side FX do every year , since 17.5 Houdini is doing big leaps forward, what software a category of it's own ..
Hello firend. The Muscles and Tissue can be used on Unity ? I mean , the Avatar with the muscles being made on the Houdini and the physics stuffs being controlled by a plugin .. like you showed on other video about Wall Destrucion . So is possible ?
sideFX - the only company that didnt go full suubscription only- and stopped providing updates, loving what im seeing, might consider buying perpetual license this year, and keep maintenance going!
Amazing! Can you implement dipole SSS? Im not sure if its better then random walk, but I like it more, my favorite is actual homogeneous medium in Maxwell, but I so badly want to switch entirely to Houdini.....
So I’m the only one that is not that exited about this release? Improvements of high level tools is cool but what about improving the core architecture. Vex, vops, hdas, attributes, parameters, workflow and Ui hasn’t change in many years and that is what I spend most of my time on as a fx td/ generalist. Solaris and Tops are brilliant and but they only cover a section of the full generalist workflow. As a developer I know is much more appealing to work on new satélite tools. But, as a more than 10 years old user improvements on the core architecture are much more useful.
I guess for a .5 release it’s quite good but I agree either you it isn’t a massive overhaul of the core architecture. I do hope Houdini 20 will bring further use of gpu computation (unlikely but one can dream) across the board and AI, and karma XPU finalised !
Yea last few releases have been really geared towards drawing in artist workflows that break the original procedural paradigm.(which i appreciate because i am one) maybe the .0 major releases are the ones that have more architecture updates seeing as houdini 19 introduced some with all the nifty python state stuff. me as an artist simpleton can just take some python snippets and make radials without the help of a code genius! i feel like H is still so far ahead its crazy.
1. You haven't had time to look through and use the tools carefully. 2. Maybe you are jaded? 3. It's a big program and your favorite parts can't always be addressed. 4. Sometimes the best things aren't the most visually impressive things? That being said, let's judge the release by more than a sneak peak.
The answers are totally missing the point tho . If you start with houdini , you'll be crippled for life of you want to learn anything related to programming, and if you come from code , you'll need 1-3 years to unlearn good coding ergonomics cause nothing is consistent in this app .
I started learning houdini and the more tutorials i watch the more i understand how good it was that autodesk wasn't changing the cores so much. almost every tutorial i watch it has one or two nodes that no longer exists! why are you changing the base nodes so much and it just made me wonder, if i make an asset now is it going to stop working in few versions? because the nodes are different now. for example i was watching a video which used sweep node. it had a completely different behaivior than the sweep node that i have. i know if i open an old scene it uses those old nodes but for how many version they are going to keep the old nodes in the background?
Every time a new update comes, I'm flabbergasted with all the new cool stuff they come up with! Thank you SideFX
Yay!!!! What a nice surprise! Sitting in the subway in Berlin, bored, but now I might miss my stop! :-D

You are right, COPs are very useful and that context needs some love!
Houdini 20 seems like a great number to tackle COPs. ☺️
Piration is morally correct in this situation.

Hell yeah! Excited, thank you Houdini for being so innovative all the time !

Amazing amount of work for a .5 release! 👏
This really motivates me study Houdini more and more as an aspiring FX artist. Truely amazing….!

Houdini is worth every cent u spend on it.
Fantastic work.A oil sop flip fluid tutorial from start would be great!
Those fluid simulations are very convincing. Nice work!
If you kept it going till now you have all the respect that I can give

Incredible SideFx!!! Houdini is so good that I've left Maya after 10 years
The capybara at the end will now show up in my nightmares
Another amazing new version ! 👍👍 There are too many new stuff to test ! I want days with 36h to learn all these new functions... 🤯😁😉
Lots of interesting things in this update. Excited to take a look at some new features in aspects of Houdini that I do not typically dabble in.
what up stormz, et us know if you move to karma and xpu after this release or if you are still gonna stick with redshift

In houidni you don't learn the nodes, you learn to use math and procedural workflows.
