I love this song. Too bad they didn't release a full soundtrack album so we could hear everything as clear is this :(

It's super easy with chordify. Just search "A Simple Prayer King Kong" and you'll see the live version was already transcribed! EDIT: chordify.net/chords/king-kong-live-on-stage-a-simple-prayer-official-studio-recording-michael101

I think I’m in the minority, but Samm Hagen (Esther’s understudy) sang this part so much better (just in my opinion). It’s just that Esther’s resonance in her upper register can be a little tight/constricted/nasal. It’s still amazing but Samm Hagen has a much stronger control of her velopharyngeal port and her resonance and tone is much more clear and full. Esther is amazing of course but see Samm’s version here: m.ruclips.net/video/kNncoChPlPU/видео.html

I agree that both are really great. I think Esther intentionally colours her tone with this restriction to achieve a sound that isn't unlike what a lot of Jazz/blues singers sounded like in the set era. Samm has a really great, higher sit and brighter twang sound...but it definitely lives in contemporary music theatre pop land.
