When brands see people drop 300+ on 50ml bottles of fragrances that aren't even insane in quality I don't see any reason why holding back on prices. We are the ones deciding. If we don't buy, they adapt.
These are fragrances that will now never be in my collection, and I'm more than OK with that. There is so much choice available now that it's very easy to smell great without paying a ridiculous price. If people keep buying at the inflated prices they'll keep pushing them up. And I'm yet to be convinced that all of these so-called 'exclusive' ranges contain anything that justifies the price.
I bought LeLion 200ml just before the last prize hike thanks to Sebastian! With this hike, Channel is out of my scope (same with TF). My focus now is more on other, smaller and more innovative Brands.
I think that Chanel's future vision is that they want to target a particular category of people by increasing the prices so that not anyone can get their products easily .
I unfortunately already witnessed the price hike while browsing in the US, but luckily on my visit to Europe I was able to pick up Le Lion for a much better price, not including the VAT rebate in addition. I would never buy these at their full US price! Ridiculous. On top of that, I found several bottles of Dior Homme Parfum at the Prague Duty Free!
I'm not a Chanel girl, but even if I was, these prices are just ridiculous... £200 for 75ml and £350 for 200ml here in the UK. These luxury designers are going crazy. I don't have this kind of budget and there are really plenty of better priced options in niche and even indie!
I several Chanel fragrances including Chance and 2 Les Exclusifs Beige and Coromandel. With these price increases no more. I have more then enough plus my beloved Dior I’m set for life. Thank you Sebastian for this update.
I’ve never paid more than 270 for the 200ml. Lowest I’ve ever gotten one for was 100 and that’s because it was an estate sale. I bet I’ll find a full bottle second hand. What rational person would pay $500 for this? For this price that bottle better be gilded in 14k gold, come in a wooden reusable box with a key and better be made with the rarest of ingredients.
We "normal" people need to realize that we are not the target group. Chanel wants the money of those people who go into a Chanel boutique, smell a fragrance for 5 seconds and just go and grab the 200 mL bottle. They are not doing a fan service! They are doing business!
No one ever talks about my favorite Chanel, 1957. I think it’s so clean, powdery, it smells like you came out of the shower, towel dried, and took a big powder puff and dusted powder on your body. It’s a little dated, but I like it. Those prices are ridiculous.
Initially all these boutiques perfumes are created for those clients who make purchases in the Chanel stores, and they actually do not care that much if perfume costs 300 or 500 euro, cause average customer check in the store is about 4K euro. Plus, Chanel increased dramatically all their prices for all items , like clothing and bags, so this is their new strategy to become more expensive and exclusive for rich people. That’s why they cut off middle customers with less purchasing power.
I just want to say for years I felt like the only person I knew to get so absorbed by certain fragrances…. And I am so inspired by them- they transport me. My current and longest running favorite is L’Artisan Parfumeur Mure et Musc extreme… it is hypnotic for me!!! Anyways- I would die to smell your library. So many fragrances I’ve never heard of, that sound so magical. I always think I’m drawn to certain notes but when I discover what is in my favourites I am always shocked. It’s almost never what I think I like… thanks so much for sharing your opinions and knowledge! You’re awesome and beautiful and classy!!!! And I’m so glad you’re still pumping out content!
I’m young (27) and a big fan of Coco Noir and also Misia! However some of them do have a definite classic edge, like the N.5 EDP. I wish Chanel would drop new scents more often…. I think Mademoiselle was a banger but now that patchouli is not as popular as it was in the 2000s idk…
I am glad I bought Le Lion two years ago when you posted the video regarding price hike. I wanted to buy sycamore or Boy but now I am going to pass on them.
Niche & Designer houses are totally off my radar from the past, middle eastern houses are far more affordable! Oud For Greatness is the last bottle of cologne I'll ever spend over a $100 dollars for! It's simply not worth it but to each his own!
Greed may indeed be the main culprit. I assure you that even if they were to use the most expensive ingredients they could find, it wouldn't be close to justifying the price hike. The cost per bottle of respected niche houses, if being generous, is at most 15€. It's way less for en masse production that Chanel does - imagine that the production cost of their Les Exclusifs went up by a dollar to 11$ per bottle, would that justify the final price of 500$?
“In 1932, Chanel presented an exhibition of jewellery dedicated to the Comète diamond as a fashion accessory,it featured the Comet and Fountain necklaces of diamonds, which were of such original design, that Chanel S.A. re-presented them in 1993“ more like Parle moi de parfum can they get away with copying from the past and hopefully we didn’t notice , is the question i might say
I am turning 40 in April... and I can definitely see that vintage-esque style of Chanel... and that's exactly because of that DNA that I never bought Chanel. My favorite being Le lion... but that DNA throw me off... yes Chanel DNA is kinda has been...
Recently wore BDC EDP, was pleasantly surprised how classy and intriguing the smell still manages to be. Credit to Chanel for that, but those price hikes? Nooo thanks. Plus they should still expand their offerings for men.
Finaly the influencer are talking about the price. I had a feeling that Seb dont care about the price. Like its a small unimportant detail. It was like a shame to say loud that the price is astronomic. A lot of people were like manipulated to buy a perfum for 350€ with a feeling that its ok to pay such a money. Even if the roses are from Kilimanjaro and was gathered by virgins with a clean carma it can not cost 500€ for a bottle. The people who gather the roses are underpaid in a very bad warking conditions spray the poison pestizide over thos roses. Its a pitty that influenca dont touch these topic in the industry. Pestizide
Yeah, it's pretty infuriating becuase they had a lot of amazing frags from the Les Exclusifs line, Sycomore, Coromandel, Boy, Le Lion! and at this point they're out of my price range now, $500 is insaneeeee, and $325, for 2.5oz is mind boggling 😵💫😵💫, looks like I've got a find a means to find one elsewhere 😮💨
Wow, your head must be spinning after figuring out all those ml prices. My opinion is that these prices are all outrageous and if this keeps going on, they may just price theirselves out of business. Only the fairly wealthy people will be purchasing them. I do own quite a few of the original Chanel esclusifs from the EDT editions. I think these high prices are disgusting and are all about greed. I will stick to the smaller brands if and when I ever buy another bottle of perfume.
the problem with the Chanel exclusives and the Dior private line never go on sale . The pricey Tom Fords don't bother me as much because I can get friends & family deals that make it a little more reasonable. I'm starting to not want Chanel releases anymore because it's always attached to a price hike.
I bought the Comete, and it’s really nice and Iris’y. It’s warm to. It Smells really good layered Santa Maria novella’s Muschio Oro or Melograno funnily enough. Has a soapy smell to me 😍
All Chanel fragrances are overpriced. They are also actively persuing a non discount policy. That's why you very rarely find discounted Chanel fragrances. They are beautiful, quality perfumes for sure but for most of them there are better and/or more affordable alternatives.
So I have been wearing "Coco" Chanel (just Coco not the Coco Madmoiselle) for about 35 years! And while I always liked Cormandale, it is so similar to Coco, I could never justify the price difference for similar juice. Just recently I purchased (for the first time ever) Coco Madmoiselle Intense for the Tonka Bean and Vanilla combo. I have worn Creed's Indiana for the Tonka Bean & Vanilla, and sadly I just can't get it anywhere now. While wonderfully classic, Chanel is not very unique!! And yes, there is always room for classic! PS I only buy 50 ml or 75 ml (Creed) whenever possible. I have plenty of options in my collection and if I go through a bottle, I can usually just repurchase!
I tried Comete today in Harvey Nicols, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; they will launch it tomorrow, it’s very basic primitive floral fragrance, not up to the expectations from Chanel. Pass for me.
For me it is just sad because I am basically priced out of Chanel. I don't blame them if they can get those prices its just a bummer. Chanel historically was way more affordable. I remember as a young guy I could afford to buy Pour Monsieur at around $40. Expensive for a 20 year old, but doable. 19 years later that is $130 on their website. I would really like one day to get 31 Rue Cambon, but I don't see that happening.
I have two full 200ml(edited) bottles of Sycamore and Coromandel glad I got them but I’ve only worn each maybe 1-3 times. I might have to figure out how to decant or sell these two.
I was at the local Von Maur over the weekend and the SA mentioned the Chanel hikes. I stopped buying Chanel a few years ago. Nothing new in their designer line up and I'm not paying their prices for Exlusifs line.
Their margins are already astronomically high. Unless people come together and boycott this house, they'll never learn the lesson in not exploiting their customer base.
I feel like the Les Exclusifs aren't unique enough to justify the price especially if you compare to the quality of Dior Privé, Guerlain or even Louis Vuitton. I've sampled so many Les Exclusifs and have never had the inclination to buy a full size!
Hermes provide some sublime classics, not as expensive. My last Chanel was Misia and that’s me done. It’s beyond what I’m prepared to pay. Less expensive in UK but still a lot.
Tom Ford prices are even more off the wall now because Estée Lauder has to make back that 2.8 billion. 😂🤣 Chanel is the way it is because they can rely heavily on the Chanel name. For now. They should be careful. Bougie reputation isn’t ironclad or immortal.
Please please 🙏🏻 I just found out that Juliette has a gun has a luxury line and I would loveeee your opinion on it!! Great videos I watch you every day!!!
I appreciate the brand for their heritage but I couldn't care less for their fragrances in general, not my cup of tea, appreciate the classics but I do not to wear them. The prices are relative, if I really want it I'll pay for it, Frederic Malle I'm looking at you, but as I said I don't even like them. Thanks for the video Sebastian!!!
In general, I’m not sure what is going on with Chanel lately. There seems to be a lack of artistic direction, and yet they keep hiking prices for everything they sell. I’m happy I already have a decent collection of the Les Exclusives that I enjoy, because I’m not buying any now. I’ll get my nose on Comete when I can, but I’m not sure whether I will like it, based on the notes. I’m not rushing out to find it! ❤
Hi I expected a new male fragrance at last! Not a unisex fragrance 🤔 I heard that Chanel will release a new flanker of allure pour homme by fall? I love classics by Chanel❤ thanks for your help and more 🙏
The prices are just ridiculous. Le Lion was on my "to get" list ever since it came out, now I'm not convinced I'll ever get it. Sycomore is great, but since Encre Noire exists, why would anyone bother? There's only so much value ingredients can add until it all becomes just a scam.
Youre reviewing a perfume without trying it. Personally, I can never get bored of Chanel perfumes.. always smells expensive to me . And can’t wait to buy Comete. ☺️
I like some of Chanel's fragrances. But these price hikes simply makes me avoid them altogether. This coming from someone with currently 150+ fragrances who has been in the fragrance game for 25+ years now and smelled thousands of fragrances.
Just stop buying. There are some Luxury RUclipsrs who are speculating that prices may go down (hush hush of course) in the future as the boutiques are not full with customers anymore...
With these prices of designer brands' "luxury" or "exclusive" lines, I'd rather buy something from Amouage, Xerjoff, Nishane, or literally other great niche brands. I'm pretty sure I'll be happier as I'll get more unique scents with much better performance. I used to not care about designer and niche classifications, but these designer brands are almost forcing me to only use niche brands because of all those ridiculous pricing.
I've heard they don't profit from the Les Exclusifs fragrances and that they are only there for the "prestige" of the brand... I don't know if that's true.
I think the price hikes are ridiculous!! To me it seems greedy. I used to have Chanel fragrances when I was in my 20’s, but, haven’t been into any of them as I’ve gotten older. I’ll stick to niche brands that aren’t as well known.
I think that the elixir trend and the price increase from many designers has also impact on the current prices. Dior and YSL charge 180 bucks for 60 ml elixirs so they are per ml more expensive than the exclusifs from Chanel. I think that niche and exlusifs from Chanel,Dior,Tom Ford,YSL etc will become more and more expensive in the near future.
$500 just prices these out of reach of most people. If you have a family even with a good salary, dropping $500 on a bottle of fragrance is a real push. (Also think 200ml is too much. By the time you get half way through the bottle I get bored with it )
I think they should keep increasing the prices, I stopped buying them at retail price years ago. But people who are out of touch deserve to be robbed by those brands lol
All these designer price hikes will soon implode and backfire for these brands. Just a hunch. It’s prohibitive for most people, it’s ridiculous, unjustified and there are better/more important things to worry about. I’ve never been into Chanel as a perfume brand (just not my style, always found it a bit dated), nor the ethos of its founder (just my personal thoughts though).
Let's face it. Most of the people buying Chanel's Exlusifs aren't going to think twice at paying $500 for 200ml and Chanel knows that. Honestly takes it well outside anything I would spend, but no one at Chanel is losing sleep over me.
Had the privilege to smell this already and let's just say it's not my favorite recent release and thankfully the cherry blossom accord is not dominant. It's simply a mass marketing fragrance that i won't be purchasing.
The prices compared to thev U.K are insane. I can get a 200ml Le Lion from John Lewis with their 15 percent off for £297.50 tax is already included in our price's. Usual full price is £350 for 200ml.
Great that they give you discounts there here at Neimans they treat Chanel like some gods gift to the world. Absolutely never discounted. It’s quite annoying. But you guys are lucky. 😀
What about guerlain's £480($600) for a 50ml bottle of their mediocre perfumes?! Perfumes have become THE cash cow! I guarantee you, there's a lot of money around, and ppl are ready to pay whatever for that cr@p! I was told by a salesperson in London that one man spent £8000($10.000) in one purchase on Strange Love NYC perfumes! Brands know that the rich are only getting richer and that people worship brand names. I personally don't like Chanel at all; it's the same DNA over and over again. It's the same game of reinterpretation of classics, which is just tiring, tbh. I will take any Etat Libre d'Orange perfume over Chanel any day, and they're only £140 for 100ml!! There are so many very interesting niche and indie brands out there with reasonable prices. I say F*CK Chanel!

So true
Chanel is pretty high quality--not justifying the price though! Insanely expensive!!!
Sebastian will still buy them

With prices of 500 a bottle they should not wonder that more and more people buy dupes

Same!

Good thing I amassed a large collection and don’t need to ever buy another fragrance again! Haha
There are always new fragrances and scent profiles coming out though
a few years back they were 300 now 200 more lol no thanks
Right ❤
Damn wanted one, just one for the collection. Not anymore 🫤
I have Beige and I will now use it sparingly because I will not be purchasing it or any others again.
Thank you Sebastian for the update 😊

just take a look at Roja pricing;)
@@mastodon5220that one isn’t worth it either lol

We "normal" people need to realize that we are not the target group. Chanel wants the money of those people who go into a Chanel boutique, smell a fragrance for 5 seconds and just go and grab the 200 mL bottle. They are not doing a fan service! They are doing business!
No one ever talks about my favorite Chanel, 1957. I think it’s so clean, powdery, it smells like you came out of the shower, towel dried, and took a big powder puff and dusted powder on your body. It’s a little dated, but I like it. Those prices are ridiculous.
It’s also my favorite and signature scent :) plus, I get tons of compliments
I adore 1957.

Francesca Bianchi prices have more than doubled over the past year. A year ago I bought Encounters for €108 and now it's €235!! Crazy increases.
Maybe you buy 30ml because 100ml it’s 235
Can Sebastien find an explanation why the prices of designer perfumes are increasingly more expensive compared to niche perfumes?
greed + the masses will keep buying "brand name" because it has the clout.
Greed may indeed be the main culprit. I assure you that even if they were to use the most expensive ingredients they could find, it wouldn't be close to justifying the price hike. The cost per bottle of respected niche houses, if being generous, is at most 15€.
Guerlain's more high end ones are fairly priced I think
I believe #22 perfume (not EDP) is still more per oz. Last year i bought a bottle direct. It comes only in .5 oz. (Yes that is not a typo). $250.
I got to try comete yesterday, all I can say it should've been part of les eaux.....
I like channel and a big fan of coromandel and sycamore but at this point that’s the last of channel for me. I’ll stick to Tom Ford and Creed
The use the finest ingredients that exist, and they set the trend on what people want. Others just follow.
It’s at the point to where why would anyone buy designers for $500? You can literally buy Henry Jacques for that price
Probably the price of raw materials to produce them went up 🤷
I think that the elixir trend and the price increase from many designers has also impact on the current prices. Dior and YSL charge 180 bucks for 60 ml elixirs so they are per ml more expensive than the exclusifs from Chanel. I think that niche and exlusifs from Chanel,Dior,Tom Ford,YSL etc will become more and more expensive in the near future.
Dior elixir price is justified. That thing last for days, not like other brands.
@@bienvenu9582 Performance wise i agree but 180 bucks for a 60 ml is still a high price tag for a designer fragrance.
Any new release would be intriguing. But remains to be seen. Or smelled!
That’s why not a lot of people using perfumes anymore these days
Let's face it. Most of the people buying Chanel's Exlusifs aren't going to think twice at paying $500 for 200ml and Chanel knows that. Honestly takes it well outside anything I would spend, but no one at Chanel is losing sleep over me.
Chanel prices should be no more than 150$ I started boycotting them since the last price increase
The price has gone up 2ce, before I’m even half way through my 75ml bottle of coromandel…interesting!
Is cherry blossom a phantom note made up as an accord? Or is it actually possible to extract the essential oil from the flower pedals?
that Chanel is going to stay right where it's at. not coming home with me for HALF A GRAND! that's insane.
Whats the comparison against YSL?
at what point will this madness stop? are they trying to price everyone out of the market?
Another price increase? No Chanel, thank you. Work on your fragrance longevity that is terrible.
Wasn’t worth it to me at the old prices. Too old school and classic as you mentioned.
BTW now Eau De Cologne is the same price to others,,, I didnt see that coming
Sycomore edt is a masterpiece coromandel also so good
