- I will show you how to sew a French seam for beginners. French seams are a beautiful and professional-looking finishing technique used in sewing. They are most commonly used on garments, but did you know they are also great for making bags?
French seams provide a neat and clean finish on the inside of the fabric, preventing fraying and ensuring that the garment or bag will last longer. They are especially useful when working with lightweight or delicate fabrics that may easily fray or tear.
Whether you are an experienced sewist or a beginner, this video will help you master the technique of sewing a French seam and take your projects to the next level.

Thank you for the clear instructions! I’ve often wondered what seam allowance was needed to do this if I had no written instructions to follow.
My pleasure 😄 You can use differnt seam allowance if you wish, but remember to add that extra bit for the first seam.
Love your tutorials! I tried the French Seam on a small bag a couple years ago but didn’t like the unsecured flap of fabric left inside the bag from the French Seam. A Flat Felled seam can be used in the same way and gives a more professional finish since the seam lays flat.
Yes, absolutely. I will cover that technique in a future tutorial. The flat felled seam is fantastic and durable, but you cannot always use it, so French seam is a great alternative.
