- In this video, we will have a look at who are the owners of the most expensive car ever made- the Ferrari 250 GTO. The 250 GTO was introduced in 1962 and over the decades has gained legendary status among car collectors and enthusiasts. Its price has increased from 18,000$ when new to over 50,000,000$ in recent years and so only the richest collectors can afford one. Owners range from the famous fashion designer Ralph Lauren and businessman Lawrence Stroll to drummer Nick Mason and JCB CEO Anthony Bamford.

I’ve seen 15 GTO’s, all at Goodwood. Lord Bamford has quite a collection. I’ve seen Nick Masons 250 many many times.

I’m an American that went to the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed. I met Nick Mason coming out of a VIP area. He signed my day pass. A highlight. Also had Sterling Moss sign another day pass.

Derek Hill inherited the 250 Gto from his father Phil Hill who raced there winning some endurance races of the time. Ferrari gave it to him I believe following the victory in the F1 World Championship. Probably the most beautiful and winning gto

For pretty all of them, that would be very difficult,because they are just too many of them. Exept for the Mclaren F1 GTR or LM

My relationship with Ferrari goes back to the 1960’s. The only 250GTO owner I ever knew was French collector Jess Pourret. While I did meet Ralph Lauren in August 1976 at Pebble Beach but did not chat. The closest I ever came to Nick Mason was a Pink Floyd concert in 1995 (Rose Bowl). Good seats but hardly close to the stage.

Some corrections, per the excellent book, "Ferrari 250 GTO -- The History of a Legend," by Anthony Pritchard:
• There were only 36 250 GTOs built, not 39. Three cars were fitted with 4-liter engines, and are commonly referred to as "4-liter GTOs," although they were never built as GTs. Two are numbered as SAs (SuperAmericas), and one as an LM, and were all built as prototypes. One SA and the LM were produced in '62, and the other SA in '63.
• #3987, the Ralph Lauren car, was originally sold to North American Ferrari distributor Luigi Chinetti and his North American Racing Team, and soon after was sold to John Mecom. Painted in Mecom's Pelham Blue, in the hands of Roger Penske and Augie Pabst, driving for Mecom Racing, the car finished 4th overall and 1st in the GT class at the 1963 12 Hours of Sebring.
• #3767 was the first of David Piper's two GTOs. Piper was a well-know and respected Ferrari GT, sports car, and prototype driver, but was not a Ferrari F1 driver.
• #4399, the second Anthony Bamford car you've profiled, was initially sold to Maranello Concessionaires, a British distributor for Ferrari and a potent racing team. The car was produced in 1963 and originally sported the classic '62-63 body style. However, in late '63 or early '64 it was re-bodied with the 1964 body shown in the video.
• #3713 : There is no GTO with this chassis number. However, Anthony Wang does own #4713, so we can chalk that up to a typo. And #4713 is the most distinctive of all of the GTOs. In 1963, Ferrari built three 330LMBs, which are essentially a Ferrari 250GT Lusso (the Ferrari road car at the time) from the windshield back, with the classic GTO front end ahead of the windshield. As 330LMBs, the cars were prototypes, not GTs. However, a fourth LMB was constructed with the 3-liter engine, and was given chassis number 250GTO 4713GT, making it a GTO. This car finished 6th in the 1963 24 Hours of LeMans, driven by David Piper and Masten Gregory, and is sometimes referred to as a "250LMB."

Just to clarify, there were 36 250 GTO’s produced, the 39 quoted is inaccurate. There were 3 4liter cars made but are not considered 250 GTO’s.

@@VivaLaAutomotive With only six real Daytona Cobra Coupes ever built they are far more rare than the 36 Ferrari GTOS. Three remain in the US, while one each are in Argentina, Germany and Japan.
I get all of this. The Ferrari 250 GTO is in my opinion the most beautiful Ferrari ever made among the many beautiful cars crafted by Ferrari in the 1950, 1960's and 1970's. The Ferraris built after that period are not in the same league EXCEPT the F40.
I will be so bold to state the Ford GT 40 chassis #1075 is probably the most valuable car in the world . The car is also owned by Rob Walton today. If that car ever went to auction it will break the record for the highest price ever paid for a car. More than any 250 GTO imho.

The Ford is so valuable because of it's incredible race record. I had the privilege of seeing this unique car at the Goodwood FOS in 2019. This car won Le Mans in 1968 and 1969 , won Sebring in 1969, BOAC 1000 km in 1968, Spa 1000km in 1968 , Watkins Glen 6 hours in 1968 and came 3rd o/all and 1st in class at Nurburgring 1000km in 1968. A record no other car in existence can claim.
What happened with the other ones??? Were they destroyed ? Are they in public museums? At Ferrari headquarters/museum?

@VivaLaAutomotive Chassis #3713GT is not a 250 GTO, but a 250 GTE. The correct chassis number for Lulu/Anthony Wang's 250 GTO is 4713GT and the body shape is not the usual S1 1962 250 GTO style, but the same as a 330 LMB. Only 36 250 GTOs were built plus 2 330 engined cars with the same style body as a S1 1962 250 GTO. Their chassis numbers are 3765LM and 4561SA. Laurence Stroll has now sold his 250 GTO chassis #3451GT along with a number of other Ferraris from his collection.

@@VivaLaAutomotive 400K for the first one 1984 but he own the most expansiv car that cost over 100mil and it isn´t a 250GTO the most expansiv car is a Bugatti Type57 SC Atlantic and the price for a 250GTO depend on his History who drive it in wich race and how many races he won , 250GTO´s from privat Teams are cheaper

I just chased the guy driving it, he seemed Dutch by accent, so he wasnt Romanian, and caught up to him in a gas station. It was just red, with Bahrain plates. If you have an email address i could send a picture. I'm curious too to know more about the car. I should have done a quirks and features type of vid a la Doug deMuro🤣
To see one at GoodWood or other exclusive gatherings is one thing....and seeing one driving on the ringroad is .....lets put it this way....even winning the lottery has a better chance than this.

Who are SOME of the owners of the most VALUABLE car on the world ? Is what the title should be. Most expensive cars in the world should really center on when new - collector cars are always referred to in context of their current value. The fact that one of the Walmart kids could buy 750 more of them if he wrecked his is silly narrative fluff - you have to stay in the confines of production of the car. He’s just the richest owner, leave it at that.

First of all any of the Ferrari 250 GTO’s that will come up for sale today the starting bitting is at $80 million dollars they have estimated that it will probably sale at $100 million dollars
FERRARI 250 GTO IS $82 million dollars.
With 40 million they won’t even let you go inside the room where the auction is happening .
To buy a 250 GTO. requirements are
Need to have a lot of money. Need to wait sometimes a decade or even longer to see one
Available for sale, then a long list of enthusiast Byers that have signed up to be invited to be in the auction to go against a group of billionaires and be prepared to be the highest bidder.
Last one was in auction the hammer came down at 82 million dollars.
