gotta include nostalgia critic’s the wall in history of rock, one of the most groundbreaking forward thinking ambitious projects of the 2010s
The Swans triology is by far best piece of rock music I’ve heard from the 2010s. Would love to see it mentioned.
some notable rock albums from the 2010s
Suck It and See/ AM/ Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino- Arctic Monkeys
Blackstar- David Bowie
Like Clockwork- Queens Of The Stone Age
A Moon Shaped Pool- Radiohead
Dogrel- Fontaines D.C.
just about any King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard album
Joy as an Act of Resistance- IDLES
Angles/Comedown Machine- The Strokes
Hypersonic Missiles- Sam Fender
The aftermath of Oasis breaking-up (Liam Gallagher vs Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds)
and considering you have touched on hip-hop in previous episodes, Kendrick Lamar’s masterpiece “To Pimp A Butterfly” deserves a mention, one of the best albums ever made.
Days of future passed by the moody blues is one of my all time favourite prog albums, would love to see it featured
Classic!! You can definitively hear the influence they had on king crimson
King Gizzard are well worth looking into as a prolific rock band throughout the 2010's
I'd also include Mdou Moctar, and I think it would be worth talking about Bandcamp as a whole and how its really allowed smaller artists to find a home against the harshess of mainstream music outlets/lables
Ghost is one of the defining bands of the 2010s.
King gizzard is definitely the band you want to talk about for the 10s. Other good bands would be cage the elephant, tame impala, greta van fleet, etc. i would say the 10s was a revival for rock as theres alot of good music out! Cant wait for it!
Sugar Candy Mountain are mad underrated. Definitely worth checking out. Spoon has some great albums in the 2010s to
The Lemon Twigs is definitely a band you should check out for the history of rock 2010s, they’ve worked with Todd Rundgren and Sean Lennon and have a very clear 70s vibe on some of their stuff
Yes! JT, Please check them out! Their new album is awesome
Doing the 2010s to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The History of Rock and Roll is understandable. Makes total sense. This series is really educational and a lot of fun. That's great! The times from 2015 to 2017 are very sad unfortunately. The deaths of some many greats like Lemmy, Scott Weiland, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, Chris Cornell and Chester Bennington among many more. Very sad to see them all go.
Really hope I can get Elements signed even though I don't live in New York
Also, I'd love to see Close to the Edge by Yes (You could probably get that one for cheap, I got my vinyl copy for 2 bucks), Thick as a Brick, Tommy, 2112, Trilogy by ELP, and Fragile in the SOP
Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Tame Impala, Vampire Weekend, Mac Demarco, Parquet Courts, The Lemon Twigs, Black Midi, King Gizzard, Thee oh Sees, The Growlers, Ty Segall, Cage the Elephant, MGMT, Jack White, Gary Clark Jr, LCD Soundsystem, Turnstile. Just to name a few ideas for bands to talk about. Also I’m sure you’ll talk about the literal death of rock n roll in the mainstream being “Imagine Dragons”.
It's too early to do the 2020s History of Rock and Roll, but if it happens, two highlights of the decade would be The Rolling Stones releasing Hackney Diamonds, their best album they done since Some Girls. The other being Gojira performing at the opening of the Paris Olympics that just happened Friday. The first time a metal band has ever performed at the Olympics. That's going to introduce people to both Gojira and metal if they never listened to them prior to the performance. That's a great highlight. And I'm sure The Beatles Now and Then will also be talked about since this is their final song. So make that 3 highlights to talk about if the 2020s video will happen. I won't be bummed if it doesn't get made. But if it does, these are the 3 highlights to talk about.
Yesss!! The 2010's!!! My daughter is going to be happy. We will watch together!!
For the summer of prog I think Quadrophenia would be an excellent choice
Close To The Edge!
for the beatles aspect of rock in the 2010s you can talk about the start of the beatles remastered era and talk about the importance of the switch from the 2009 remastered we have on streaming to george martins son giles remastering them for the modern age and ofc what paul did during the 2010s cause its some of his best work in my opinion
THE BEATLES MUST BE MENTIONED IN EVERY EPISODE
PLEASE TALK ABOUT THE LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY ITS LITERALLY A TOP 3 PROG ALBUM
That one I have on vinyl…
Absolutely!
I do think you need to include both Noel and Liam gallagher in the history of rock 2010s by far some of the best rock albums of the 2010s especially As You Were.
Hi JT, only recently found your channel. History of Rock n Roll is the greatest thing on RUclips and you certainly did put a lot of work into the Pink Floyd reviews as well as the recent Queen retrospective which I enjoyed immensely. It will be interesting to see if you can find any decent rock from the 2010s! I see a few requests for Camel in the comments - definitely worth including - can send my old vinyl copy of Snow Goose if you need it.
IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KING!! KING CRIMSON!! PLEASE!!!
Other great prog albums I like are Genesis "Selling England by the pound," Jethro Tull "Thick as a brick," Supertramp "Crime of the century," or Rush's "Moving Pictures." Those are great as well.
I think he mentioned that because Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks are particularly brutal when it comes to bullshit copyright strikes, Genesis is banned from being discussed in depth on this channel.
PLEASE TALK ABOUT GRETA VAN FLEET!!!!
The croaked vultures.
You can't miss that album especially since thay are making a second album now.
Wait are they actually confirmed making one??? I thought there were only rumors about it
(Also, as much as I adore that album, Them Crooked Vultures I’d actually from 2009. I personally think it would’ve been the best to end the 2000s video with but I’d still love to see it in the 10s video even if it’s not technically 2010s)
Yes thay are. All three have talked about thay are writting songs for it and have been talking
King Crimsons Red or Yes Close to the Edge
also when it comes to 2010s rock the australian invasion we got with tame impala, king gizzard, mild high club, etc. also gotta mention the forefather of this 2010s indie rock movement with mac demarco
i know it might be a little unoriginal but in the court of the crimson king should definetly be in the summer of prog series.
History of Rock 2010s: A Journey Through the Wasteland. I'm stoked!
I think the Moody Blues: On the Threshold of a Dream would be a solid choice for the prog series.
Their 3rd best album. We all know that Days of Future Passed is their best album. Number 2 is Question of Balance.
Yob - Our Raw Heart
Summer of Prog sounds really exciting! A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned in the comments. So, here's a few not mentioned that I think would be worth checking out.
Camel - Camel
Eloy - Ocean
Frank Zappa - One Size Fits All
Kansas - Leftoverture
King Crimson - Islands
Van der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Yes - Drama
I know you want to get these on vinyl and some of these might be kinda hard to find (especially the Eloy one, since they're a German band). However, I'd still recommend listening to these any way you can. It just goes to show how much great prog there is.
You can also mention one of the most controversial genres of that time.
Incelcore, or e-Punk, it in a way resembled punk, being against the mainstream, and making as many people as mad as possible.
It also captured the internet culture of the time, while resembling the roots of punk being counterculture, it was hated by critiques, and it garnered a pretty large audience.
It's also low fi, and home made produced like most of punk resembles.
It carried the dumb, and saterial lyricism The Ramones carried in the 70's in that period, it's the artists shaking the status quo, and making the punks themselves angry at there shock value, here's a list of artist to cover.
Keep in mind there lyricism, and imagery may be suggestive.
Negative XP
Fried By Fluoride
sodaboy64
Hard Christ
UhOhSlater
belowground
Steakfry
Greens on Toast
NEET
Summer of prog sounds fun! I'll throw a couple of suggestions in:
Electric Light Orchestra - ELO II
Chris Squire - Fish Out Of Water
Yes - The Yes Album
Alan Parsons Project - Pyramid
suggestion for summer of prog: long distance voyager - the moody blues. The album is in my top 15 favorite for sure. Speaking of my favorite albums, I’m excited for the elements vinyl release! Elements has been my go to album lately.
Excited for the prog rock series, it would be great if you talked about any of the 70s Yes albums, they're all really good albums in my opinion
Stay tuned…
I think one great prog classic would be T2 - It’ll All Work Out In Boomland. Pretty awesome prog/hard rock. Just listen to ”No More White Horses”.
Against Me! - Transgender Dysphoria Blues
They were an important punk rock band from the 2000s, but their magnum opus came out in 2014.
It's only 29 minutes long, so it's a very easy listen.
Pleaseee mention Gary Clark Jr. Dude brought back that noisy hendrix-inspired blues back and with such talent! Also IDLES, I've almost never seen an band with so much originality and energy
Rival Sons is one of the bands I would like you talk about. I feel like they should get same amounts of credit than Greta, if not more.
Some good prog albums to cover would be Aqualung by Jethro Tull, Fragile by Yes, and In Search Of The Lost Chord (Or any of their first 7 albums) by The Moody Blues (A lot of people tell me the Moody's aren't prog, but I believe they fit the bill)
Love the Moody Blues suggestion! I personally consider Days of Future Passed one of the first real progressive rock albums. It's such a gorgeous album.
Fun Fact: The first two records I ever bought were Deep Purple's Made in Japan and Days of Future Passed.
Cool
I don’t know if this counts as prog technically but it would be great if you could cover Fly By Night, my personal favorite Rush record.
Prog is my favourite genre so I am super excited for the Summer Of Prog.
Some recommendations to include:
Tales From Topographic Oceans - Yes
Relayer - Yes
Close To The Edge - Yes
A Trick Of The Tail - Genesis
Selling England By The Pound - Genesis
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway - Genesis (I know you have this and you made special mention of this in the 70s extras)
Thick As A Brick - Jethro Tull
Minstrel In The Gallery - Jethro Tull
Hemispheres - Rush
A Farewell To Kings - Rush
Caress Of Steel - Rush
Red - King Crimson
Larks' Tongues In Aspic - King Crimson
Islands - King Crimson
Discipline - King Crimson
Hamburger Concerto - Focus
Moving Waves - Focus
Octopus - Gentle Giant
The Power And The Glory - Gentle Giant
Argus - Wishbone Ash
Godbluff - Van Der Graaf Generator
Mekanik Destruktiw Kommando - Magma
Mirage - Camel
Todd Rundgren's Utopia - Utopia
I know you'll probably not get through all that but still.
Judas Priest is still around, albeit with no original members left. Firepower (2018) was a record I thought was pretty good, though. Dragonforce maybe? Also KGLW has a record label and their signed acts are good too.
History of Rock 2010s hype! Preparing myself for the copyright takedowns
As am I!
Can you review the album Mirage by the band Camel,it is by far my favorite prog album ever. And I also love that idea,i'm thinking if it might be similar to what you did for Funk albums a few years back
If I can get it on vinyl
You gotta check out the hare and hoofe… one of the greatest and most underrated bands of the 2010s…
probably wont find them in a US record store tho.
Would like to see Dirty Honey in the list of blues rock bands that found success as unsigned artists late in the decade, as well as the Slash/Myles Kennedy collaborations. Might also give nod to the Sound City studio/film/album. And... is djent a genre? Lol! But in that vein, Animals As Leaders is a great band to check out here.
Per Summer of Prog - Its not 70s, but also actually 2010s - Steven Wilson's "The Raven That Refused To Sing", engineered by Alan Parsons, is one of the best full out beginning-to-end prog albums I've heard in a while. Not sure if it's on vinyl though...
I'm curious if Sabaton will be mentioned in Rock History
Maybe King Crimsons Red or Lark's Tongue's In Aspic?
I hope to hear more about Muse in the 2010's video. I know they were much bigger in the 2000's than the 2010's, but even if their albums weren't as commercially big during their 2010's, their 3 album tours of the decade are incredible spectacles ESPECIALLY the drones tour.
If I were to recommend one album to review, it would be their 2001 album Origin of Symmetry, hopefully it's not too hard to find on vinyl.
To be fair though I am not that familiar with many other bands of the past decade so I'll still be curious to hear what you discuss in the video.
I found the multipart long video of Roger Waters’ “This Is Not a Drill” tour last night.
Have you reviewed it?
Also what do you think of Ringo’s new single?
Can you include in the history of rock 2010s how Disney had fallout boy and Weezer do some songs for their movies Immortal from Big Hero Six and a cover of You Might Think Cars 2 respectively
and please include WE are Young by F.U.N,Pompeii by Bastille, and Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon. Why didn't you mention Through the Fire and Flames by DragonForce in history of rock 2000s?
Sound City: Real to Reel. Please mention the fact Paul McCartney did Cut Me Some Slack with the former Nirvana members.
Also Wasting Light by Foo Fighters is an album that was fucking Epic!!!
Ah yes! Thank you for reminding me of that!
@@JTCurtisMusic No bother man 😎 ✊
I have a copy of Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull (I knowit's a parody of prog rock but it really becomes one the more you listen).
Love that album
Please review The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway!
JT, I've been thinking of buying an actual good turntable and some good speakers so I can really listen to my vinyl collection. Do you happen to have any recommendations for this? Thanks in advance!
I'm still rocking my parents' Pioneer turntable from the 70s (it has sentimental value) though I had to spend some money to repair it. I wouldn't be the best person to recommend anything new.
When the 2000s rock and roll video came out I mentioned Girl Rock which I said was one of the great movements in rock and roll in the mid to late 2010s, but to pick one song, Pressure to Party - Julia Jacklin. It is one of the most important rock songs of the 2010s imo
You should look into the Australian rock bands of the 2010’s. Specifically Ocean Alley and Closure in Moscow. Both very solid bands from down under. Especially Closure
What do you prefer, CD or Vinyl?
I’d definitely include Ty Segall if you’re going to talk about the 2010s
Prog suggestion:
Larks' tongues in aspic by king crimson
If I can get it on vinyl…
@@JTCurtisMusic
Understood!
I can name a few more:
Red by King Crimson
Hot rats by Frank Zappa
Lamb lies down on broadway by genesis
Relayer by yes
Three friends by gentle giant
Godbluff by van der graaf generator
Hemispheres by rush

JETHRO TULL - THICK AS A BRICK !! for Summer of Prog! My Favourite album cover of ALL TIME (Folds out to a full size 12 page newspaper filled with monty python-esque articles). MUST HAVE ON VINYL!!!! Aqualung is excellent too!
Make sure to include the song Way Down We Go
How long can the history 2010s video be
You should definitely do a review on The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis. You mentioned in the history of rock 70s extras video that it was your favorite Genesis album and it is my favorite Genesis album too and I’d love to know your thoughts on the whole project.
I’d also really like to hear your thoughts on Kansas’ album Point of Know Return, as it’s one of my favorite prog albums too!
Other prog albums I have in mind are
In the Court of the Crimson King by King Crimson
A Farewell to Kings or Hemispheres by Rush
Trilogy by ELP
Fragile by Yes
Maybe even Queen II could be good!
you gotta include psychedelic porn crumpets for 2010s rock history there phenomenal
Any King Crimson album would be great, but any other of the great prog bands Genesis, Yes, Jethro Tull, etc.
I would like to see a review of King Crimson’s debut album ”In the Court of the Crimson King”. Summer of Prog should start with that album.
If I can get my hands on a vinyl copy…
Genesis- Selling England By The Pound
Id reccomend reviewing a hawkwind album if you havent already. Id recomend either "Warrior On The Edge Of Time", "Space Ritual" or "Quark, Strangeness and Charm" of you havent tried any of their works before.
- Halestorm
- five finger death punch
- fun.
- of monster and men
- Gotye
- imagine dragons
- Portugal. The man
- Bastille
- more Coldplay, muse and Maroon 5 that didn't really rock
- foo figthters
- flops from Green day and Nickelback
- deaths of frontemens like chris cornell and Chester bennington (also talk about LP albums from the 2010s)
- Fall out boy
- paramore
- panic at the disco
- avril lavigne selling out
And answer no to the end question
Where / how to order the Elements vinyl when it is ready?
TBD
Curious what your opinion on Ghost is going to be

PLEASE TALK ABOUT CAGE THE ELEPHANT I WILL BUY YOUR VINYL A THOUSAND TIMES OVER
It’s a deal!
If you have it on vinyl could you please review Close to the Edge by Yes
How much to remake Mario’s Invincible Song?
Meh - It's been done
PLS TALK ABT THE STRUTS 😭
SWANS SWANS SWANS SWANS SWANS SWANS PLEASE
ay no way he has tarkus?
You should check out twenty one pilots, their album blurryface is somehow the most streamed rock album of all time, and their album trench is really good!
I think a good artist to mention is Mac Demarco, I know he’s more indie than rock, but he had an impact on the indie scene that I think is related to rock.
😂😂😂😂
Mac should totally count as rock for this. He’s got so many great records
