They most certainly exist. In my opinion I think some people would have a hard reaction. I also think most people in this day and age would accept the fact they are here and see it as an advancement of our civilization. If they chose to make contact with us it wouldn't be for hostile reasons, they could easily destroy us without humans having a chance or even time to react.

I’m telling you right now, a nuclear explosion would most likely be the most terrifying thing they have ever witnessed.
