Long ago, I used the Stream 7 to play old-school Humungous games like Pajama Sam and Freddi Fish, that thing is a gaming beast for your inner 6 years old self.
I think 3D Printing some rails for the joycons that have tabs to put double sided tape onto to hold it to either side of the tablet, that would be a massive upgrade both to the stability of the controllers and the functionality. You cojld even cut out a hole in the print for the charge port, to make it actually look like it was somewhat professionally designed for the tablet.
it would be really cool if someone created a grip for the joycons to turn it into a controller and have the tiny buttons still be usable, like turn those into paddles I'm sure it could be done it's just nobody has really thought about it.
With a bit of effort, Windows 10 (32 bit) can run in much less than 1GB. I've had it running on an old Netbook with 512MB and a single core Atom N270. I'm not saying it was fast or particularly pleasant to use... but it is still just about usable. 😉 Of course, running XP on it makes a huge difference if you're playing old games offline.
I used to own that windows tablet. it was a piece of junk but I used it as my main PC for about a year. whadya expect for $100 but I'd still like to own one though for nostalgia sake.
Far less than half the performance, more like five percent. But considering the Atom CPUs were primarily intended to be ultra power efficient, not performance oriented, and that Intel stopped development before the Steamdeck was even released, it's not surprising. There were Windows tablets with faster Atom CPUs and more RAM, but they were never intended to be gaming platforms. They will run original, non Steam versions of old games, such as Half Life, much better.
It would work reasonably well for it's intended purpose, but this is not it's intended purpose. There were Windows tablets with more RAM and more powerful versions of the Atom CPU, but they were all intended to be low power, energy efficient tablets, not gaming machines. But I can vouch that the original Half Life game will run decently on old, even lower powered 1st generation Netbooks with the early single core Atom N270 or N280 and Intel GMA 950 graphics. If you have 1.5 or 2Gb of RAM and run the OS they were designed for. Old games converted to run on Steam are always slower. Steam is a resource hog.
Best choice for this hp : 1- install linux distros 2- install windows xp with touch driver 3- install android. Edit: this is not actually tablet it's horrible quality!!!!!!
@@frokfrdk You can, when you install Debian. Debian has support for running multi-arch setup, where the OS is 64bit (because the CPU 64bit), but the UEFI is 32bit. AND Debian uses way less resources. I run Debian 11 on my Intel Atom x5-z8300 with 2GB ram and it only uses 300mb of RAM ;)
They may not be your favourite, but you should probably be thankful HP exist. Like several other well known companies, they were a driving force in getting PCs, printers and other technologies out of the business world and making them accessible to consumers in the "home" markets.
It's getting better slowly, but Linux is still hit and miss for gaming. You can tweak Windows 10 to run better, especially on the 2GB Windows tablets, but the Atom family of CPUs had two overriding aims... to be power efficient and cheap, at the expense of performance. Plus Windows 10 wasn't designed to run on devices with such low end devices. Not a great combo. If you could get Win 7 on there, or even XP, it would run old (offline) games fine. Steam versions of old games demand more resources than the original versions.

@@notanetcherAs per my reply to another iteration of your comment, you're confusing the hardware support available within the Linux world, with the hardware support provided by one or more particular Linux distributions. Just because a particular collection of parts doesn't contain the ones you want, doesn't mean they don't exist, can't be installed or aren't available in another collection. Low level drivers exist for pretty much any common hardware you care to mention. It's up to you to check that the necessary drivers are available. MS Windows is no different... major hardware manufacturers frequently stop updating drivers and no longer support their hardware under newer versions of Windows. You have to try installing older drivers or, if you're lucky, some third party drivers.
