    As a Scotsman, I'd like to commend you both for your, pretty decent, attempts to introduce some Scottish history into your VLOG. It is very rare for visitors to take the trouble to delve into the history of the place they are visiting and give accurate historical facts, to this degree, in their VLOG's. Also very well produced with a nice touch of humour!👌

      The first one I've watched. We hope to go to Edinburgh in two weeks' time - just for a week after about 12 nights in Northumberland.
      I thought I'd subscribe and see how you do in your motorhome trip to the Highlands (next!). We go up there regularly either in our caravan or to stay just outside Ullapool with my wife's sister & her husband.
      Beware the MIDGE! They LOVE me but it's not reciprocated!
      Perth is good (& Scone Palace with its nearby C&CC camp site) just outside. It is worth a day for its history and architecture & art. Arbroath with its Abbey , ice creams & the famous "smokies". Pitlochry is worth a stop as you travel up the A9 to Inverness and Dingwall (Camping & Caravan Club camp site) On the West Coast: Skye, Gairloch, Poolewe (another C&CC site!) Ullapool, Lochinver...
      But if you haven't already left Scotland, take a day trip on the ferry to Orkney. There are coach trips up from Inverness for those who like an early start, or just join the ferry at Scrabster on the North Coast if you take your motorhome that far. WONDERFUL sites to see! The oldest Neolithic village in Europe (Scara Brae), the Standing Stones of the Ring of Brodgar, the astronomical wonder that is Maes Howe, the Italian Chapel, St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall... A great day and probably worthy of several days!
      Enjoy your trip!

    The building in Dean Village with the courtyard and the clock tower was where William Alexander set up the first Golden Wonder Crisp factory (potato chips to our North American friends) after initially starting production as a sideline in a baker’s shop in Stockbridge) After the premises there proved too small he move to a purpose built factory in Sighthill, however the legacy of crisp manufacture remained. Years later when it was decided to fix the clock in Dean Village one of main reasons found for it having stopped working was that the mechanism was a thick layer of grease from the crisp frying process clogged it up.

    Fun fact its actually Robert the Bruce that is the real (original) "braveheart". It was much later the name was given to William Wallace. And Deans Village is a sleepy little Village not a town, the clues in the name. 😉Its just called "The Grassmarket" not grassmarket street. Great video glad you enjoyed your stay.

    • @BCVoyages
      @BCVoyages  15 дней назад

      Robert the Bruce was such a polarizing figure! In doing research for this trip we were amazed by how many times he was nearly captured or killed. Add the church incident with John Comyn and it's a bit of a mystery why Mel Gibson didn't play him instead. Seems Gibson is a glutton for punishment in those final scenes of Braveheart. We're also well aware of the historical inaccuracies of that movie, more fiction than fact.
      Appreciate the correction on Dean Village and The Grassmarket. We try to get things straight, but are often a bit rubbish... err trash? lol

    On the left as you go in the door is a plaque for a John Stuart Forbes (J S Hiley) who had to leave Edinburgh in disgrace and ended up in America but his bad luck followed him as he joined the U.S. Cavalry and landed in the 7th and went down with Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn.
