Chop the apple peels into a fine dice and mix it in with the stuffing- trust me! No waste cooking, and a nice sweetness to your stuffing
I love that idea!
I live in a building where there are several elders who have nowhere to go for thanksgiving or Christmas. I invite 3 each year to join me for dinner. I furnish the turkey or ham. The others bring the sides & we buy a pie from a local bakery ( the day before). Always hav a wonderful time! Paper plates, cups, napkins, and plastic silverware make clean-up easy!! Then we play cards.
That sounds fantastic! You are so kind to invite everyone in! 🙏❤️
Bless you for doing that! Many seniors are often forgotten during the holidays.
That sounds lovely! Thank you for being such a good neighbor ❣️
It's pretty amazing what a $20 meal looks like when it's in beautiful dishes!
Celery with peanut butter or cream cheese is often an appetizer in our house along with a bag of mixed nuts. A block of cheese cut up with Ritz crackers is another one.
Very good ideas!!
You made a very nice meal! I might use the $2.50 to make a little salad of some kind…like a cranberry salad or an easy cherry jello salad.
Yum! Great plan!
Jello for the kids in individual servings
I’d buy some raw veg and make a little veggie tray. At Price Chopper here in Massachusetts, you can usually get a pound of carrots for 99 cents and a cucumber (find the largest one!) for 89 cents. That leaves 62 cents for whatever you can get a small amount of by the pound (like celery sticks, broccoli crowns or green beans). For a dip, you could use whatever you have on hand, perhaps a leftover packet of blue cheese or ranch from a restaurant.
I adore the " GET YOUR FAT PANTS READY" sign!! 🤣🤣❤
I like to put a stalk of celery diced up small to put in my dressing🤗
I also use a can of chicken breast
The black part on the carrots is normally carmelization I love the carrots a little black!!! I think this was a great job!!!
Whole turkeys are now on sale for $1.09 a lb at Aldi and our Meijer has them for $0.55lb! So you could get even more turkey, for less than the breast (12-14lbs would save you an additional $3 or so).
I love your holiday videos you make everything so beautiful on a small budget!!
I wish we had an Aldi or Meijer near us. What a great deal!
I just bought a 15lb turkey at Kroger for .32 a pound. $4.80.
I love that you managed to include real turkey in this budget. That is one thing I won’t compromise on!
$1 tree and Walmart are an hours drive away. I’ve been watching the sales at my middle of nowhere store, and buying in advance the shelf/ freezer stable stuff.
Good idea!
That's actually quite a spread for $20. You did great!! Your corn bread stuffing was interesting. I thought you were going to make the corn bread, cube it, then toast it before making the stuffing. I think I will try it your way. When I serve cranberry sauce, I actually stir it into orange jello before it sets up. Then once it's set up you can slice it like straight from the can. Thank you so much for the ideas, Maria. God bless!
I'm in Ecuador. Monthly wages are $425 USD for a 6 day work week. A turkey is $60 USD. Inflation is worldwide. Best wishes for everyone! Happy holidays!
🙏🙏 bless you!
That all looked so very good for $20, it can be done, maybe not with a lot of extras but definitely will satisfy without thinking you are doing without. I heard that a lot of people are not doing Thanksgiving this year because of money shortage, hopefully this video will help. I liked that plaque in the background that said to get your fat pants ready, sadly that's what all my pants are. 😜
Nice job! Important to remember even more so than the food it is about those with whom we share it!
Agree!! I should have mentioned that 😅
@TheRumbleBunny. Couldn’t AGREE more👍!!! Thanksgiving dinner is always DELISH, but it’s secondary to sharing that meal surrounded by family and friends!💕
😉 What a beautiful job you did,, with that budget... Genius!
Thank you so much for sharing this! 💕 Times are really rough for a lot of people, and many need a reminder that a good family meal does not need to break your budget. 😁
We always do a cornbread stuffing and add dried cranberries (either boiled in water for 3 minutes or soaked for 10). It makes it extra special.
My family really loves sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving, so with the $2.50 I would get a sweet potato and marshmallows (the Walmart brand marshmallows are only $1). Slices the potato into 1/4 inch rounds and bake (adding marshmallows at the last few mintues) 😊
You did an excellent job! It would've be a very satisfying meal. Here are some random thoughts. If you cooked the turkey a little ahead of time then you could use the extra carcass meat to (1) put some in the dressing...my mom always cooks a chicken breast and chops/shreds I and mixes in the dressing to "beef" it up or (2) use the extra meat to make an appetizer like mixed with some cheese and rolled inside crescent dough. Then I was thinking leftover dressing would sure be good stuffed inside a bell pepper. A box of mac n cheese could be used to make fried mac n cheese balls for an appetizer also. And your apple pie looked amazing! Thank you for giving us inspiration! I always look forward to your videos!
Beautiful family and excellent dinner and budgeting! Happy Thanksgiving. I'm going to my son in laws family dinner this year. But I will donate food to the community food bank or other charity to help those who are in need. I'm so grateful to have the means to do that! 🦃❤
Thank you! And thank you for giving back 🙏 have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I'm a new subscriber I'm Uncle Chris the food pantry chef I am so glad you mentioned about don't be ashamed to reach out to the food pantries I show people how to cook from them I love your turkey hat also doing Thanksgiving dinner for 20 bucks amazing I'm going to see what I can do from the food pantry for Thanksgiving dinner love your channel keep up the good work now I'm going to go binge on your videos
I’m so glad you’re here! Great work showing others what they can do with a little! I’m a strong believer that a little can go a long way!
You did a great job coming up with a Thanksgiving dinner for a small amount of money. I try to make my potatoes, squash and pie ahead of time. I reheat the veggies in the microwave or stove top . I make pumpkin pie so I don"t have to reheat it. Thank goodness I usually only have to feed 4 people because my kitchen is very small. I live in a 750 square foot condo.
We smoke our turkey every year. That frees up my oven to bake what I need to. Your pie looked so cute and yummy!!
I love that! I think I’ll be trying it this year too!
I’d have to double that amount of food for my family of 5. Such is life with three teenagers in the house.
I hear ya, but still would be a great cheap dinner at 40 bucks
What about adding just a few more cheap sides or some bread? Mac and cheese or rolls. That might stretch it. You might be able to get by for about 25 bucks.
Make a first course of a big harvest vegetable or minestrone soup using some beans ( canned of dry ) , a few diced carrots , celery , onion. A couple of potatoes and or beans. Frozen veg will work too. A small can of diced tomatoes. You will have a lot of soup. Add seasoning and you will have soup for 5 plus leftovers too
Also you need to buy a bag of potatoes and bag of larger type carrots. Your 3 teens need the extra bulk of those veg to fill them up.
Same! We are a family of 8.
I have one 19 year old and a 52 year old giant of a hubby and I’d have to double it too. And do 4 more sides lol
This is a good video. Grocery prices have doubled or more. I've.made donations to our local food bank, because I know this is going to help local families on the holidays. Hope your ankle heals soon.
Your budget holiday meal videos are my favorite! 🎉
I have loved seeing your channel grow! Congratulations, and keep the videos coming! 🥰
Thank you so much! Love that you’ve been around since the beginning!!
That pie is gorgeous👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You mention using some of the onion in turkey. You could also use 1/4 onion and the apple cores for added flavor in the turkey.
I’ve been on this channel 20 seconds and I’m already subscribed, simply because your hat is incredible and so is your personality.❤👍
That hat is the cutest thing ever! Love your videos as always ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is amazing. NOBODY would ever know they were served a 4 dollar plate. Well done.
Wonderful budget Thanksgiving! I liked the idea of appetizers! Another person commented about deviled eggs and they would be good. I put butter and cinnamon on my carrots (sweeter like sweet potatoes). The pie looked great! 👍
Helpful hint for larger families (multiple dishes or larger dishes, or smaller ovens). Make side dishes the day before and then just reheat. OR prep everything the day before, the just assemble and cook.
Absolutely!!
That looks great! I really love celery in stuffing so I hope it’s on sale soon. Our favorite appetizer is olives, pickles, crudités and deviled eggs.
Your pie was beautiful!
My family has the exact same appetizer’s!
This meal looks Absolutely DELICIOUS!!😋😋 It's a Bonus that it was only$20......Great ideas Maria!💖💖
🙏 glad you like it!
A great cheap appetizer is to take two potatoes and slice them into 1/4 inch slices. Lay slices on greased foil on a baking sheet. Put oven or in broiler for 10 mins. Take out, check for doneness (fork in middle.) top with cheese (I use either velvetta or squirt cheese from a can, salt and pepper. Serve
Yum! I did twice backed potatoes last year 😍 very similar
This was amazing and very close to how I plan to do it this year. I’ll either do the butterball breast or stuffing rolls and some ham steaks with pineapple, instant mashed possibly boosted with a fresh potato, roasted carrots, corn and a pumpkin pie (of course I bought the filling last year). Favorite apps - saltines with homemade bacon cheddar cheese ball (cream cheese, sharp shredded cheddar with onion powder make into ball and roll in bacon bits. Also curried cream cheese stuffed black olives, carrot sticks and pickles
Sue here: what a pretty table scape!!! Everything looked scrumptious. I was thinking (dying) all through the video, though, where's the cranberry sauce!!!??? but you commented on it and found some lol. 😋 We grew up with sweet peas (you know, a green ..) always as a side for turkey or chicken. Lovely video, new subscriber. 🤸
Thanks Ray! I’m so glad you’re here!
Yay! The turkey hat is back! 🦃 Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Iconic 🦃
I did not know that about cooking cornbread in a preheatedt pan. I love green bean casserole. With air fried onions and canned beans that $2.50 would cover that. And a bit of honey on cooked carrots are delicious.
Yes! Honey is good!
@@MealsWithMaria A little cayenne adds a little sweet heat. Not too much but it's a way to really upgrade an inexpensive vegetable.
Do youtubers do two thanksgiving meals every year???? I can't imagine cooking it twice in one month! Hope your feeling better!
Yes! At least 🤪🦃 you have to love it!!
I mean to be fair this is a really scaled back meal... it doesn't take much to make.
@@jujube2407 Scaled back how? I don't see anything missing.
@@jujube2407 Personally I hate the idea of people stuffing themselves until they’re sick on Thanksgiving this seems like a lovely and festive meal
@@wendoxia I'm not one to stuff my face...but to me while yes all the boxes are absolutely checked... this just feels like a weekday dinner with a Thanksgiving theme at our house. It's a great video and great spread... but it's 100% basics! And there is nothing wrong with that
What a lovely meal and such good ideas! I love your plating - very elegant and inspiring. Thanks, Maria!
Aw thanks!
Some stores feature "FREE" turkeys with a purchase of $300 or $400 over a 6 week period. Two that I know of are Acme and ShopRite. Living alone I can't qualify for one any more. Also it's been announced that Aldi is rolling back prices to 2019 for 50 Thanksgiving items. I also watched a video that said Ibotta will be doing their free turkey dinner promotion but I haven't been able to confirm that.
I'm so glad I have product market nearby. The fruit and vegetables are so cheap. The turkey breast and apple pie looked delicious. Well done
You could have put some of the apple peel under the turkey skin and that just adds to the tenderness of the meat. Just a use it up idea. You could also bake the skin with a little sugar and cinnamon and make apple chips for later.
Apple pie looks great. You did agreat job.
It looked amazing! I'm so ready emotionally but not physically yet. Time is flying.
Maria, to make your decorations on your pie stand out bake them separately then just before your pie is done add them to the top with a little egg wash as a "glue" they will look beautiful. Although your pie looked delicious as it was. 💖
Maybe that’s it! I’ll try it next time, thank you!
What a thoughtful idea to post and help people who don’t know where to start. 💖
With that said, I’m subscribing because I’m not headed into dystopia without your help.
😀 so glad you’re here!
I'm new to your channel. I am a follower of Acre Homestead, Becky is great too. Enjoyed your video. Thank you and keep cooking!! Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you! I’m so glad you are here! For some reason I think Becky and I sound similar? Is that true😂 if she comes on my tv, I sometimes think it’s me! And I know a lot of my subs like her too 😀
No Thanksgiving For us this year. But thankfully we have a roof over our heads. Bless you all.
This was so good! Such a help to so many people to see this video. And if you skipped the appetizers you could buy the cranberry sauce. And maybe do a serving of green beans as well. Wonderful ideas thanks for sharing.
Absolutely!!
This is amazing 😍😍 never thought of just getting turkey breast I think I will do that , it’s only 3 of us . Also with an extra 2.50 I would get a small can of candied jams ❤❤❤😂
I love your channel I was worrying how I was going to do this, plus my grandson birthday is around Thanksgiving too and we have to ship his presents from Florida to Oklahoma and it's expensive.
You got this!!
You can cook turkey cooking bag always turns out juicy and great no matter what brand of turkey it is
Or if just doing a chicken, turkey breast, or ham, I use my crockpot. Juicy!
My new fav RUclipsr ! Keeping it 100% real, I really appreciate it!
Aw thank you!!!!
Girl you are just magic! It's so awesome that you give so many ideas on how to prepare inexpensive meals that are still delicious... I'll be trying that jiffy pie crust for sure! ♥️♥️♥️
Turned out wounderful!!! I’m doing a Turkey breast this year and roasted pork loin with apples. And of course stuffing. And my Adult kids will be adding to the meal as wet. ❤
I don't have anyone over for Thanksgiving....All of my kids are grown and go to their In-laws for dinner. I usually have a frozen dinner by myself......No mess---No fuss.
That's awesome! It's hard to believe it, but yeah ,you did it! A whole thanksgiving dinner n dessert for $20, who would have thought?!!! 👏🏆👍 Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🥕🌽🍏🥧🤗
Wonderful ideas for affordable, delicious Thanksgiving dinner.
Another great way to cook a frozen turkey breast is putting it in your Instant Pot. Add all your seasonings and that cup of water. It takes about 65-70 mins to cook an 8 lb frozen turkey breast in the Instant Pot. You get lots of delicious broth to thicken into a flavorful gravy. I like to keep a couple in my freezer all the time. It’s great to have anytime of the year when unexpected family or friends drop in. Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰
OMGoodness - Who knew?! Impressive you can put a delicious looking holiday meal for this much only. Thanks for experimenting and sharing with us.
You’re welcome ☺️
I've noticed thru the years that food prices are cheaper and there are more sales at Thanksgiving than at Christmas. Stock up if you can. I hope it's the same this year.
Happy Thanksgiving and thank you and your family for having your Thanksgiving early.
Yep...PUT ON THE BIG PANTS...ITS THANKSGIVING!! Great job!! your kiddos are so cute
Thank you! My oldest asked if that said fat pants because scarecrows have big pants🤣🤣 I don’t think the kids ever overeaten in his life 🙏🙏
@@MealsWithMaria thats so cute
Really appreciate you sharing, I feel like many families are struggling right now, I am sure this was very helpful to many. I will be making extras for those in need. Thank you.
It’s my pleasure 🙏❤️ so glad you’ll be helping too!
Just shared this on gab. Hopefully others will get inspiration and get a bit uplifted by this meal idea. Great job Maria 😁
This looked like a simple, yummy, meal. I’d have to do a little more from scratch because of the sodium content in some of the pre-packaged items.
I take my turkey breast and put it in the crock pot. It doesn't have the browning (cover it in gravy to fix that) but it is soooo moist!
Yum!
I always brown my meats first before putting them in the crock pot, comes out great!!
This looked fabulous!! Everything looked so good & the table looked so nice. It's a lovely meal!❤ Perfect for the amount of money spent! You did a great job!!
Thank you so much!
You had me hooked with the hat. Love it and you posts. Thank you!
You always do a great job with these types of videos!
Thank you Tammy!
The highlight of Thanksgiving season is your turkey hat !! 🤭🤗
Thank you so much for doing this budget type videos
You’re welcome
It’s is my husband and 28 year old son this year. Things are very tight bc my daughter is getting married next week and it’s a destination wedding. I used to cook way more years ago but my kids always request my moms antipasto and my homemade manicotti which my son helps with and is trying to perfect the shells. So we always have that, I make a turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes, peppered sweet potatoes, and cranberry. Dessert will be their choice.
Amazing and easy, satisfying. It goes to really show how much I over spend at the holidays when basically this is all that we need to have a delicious and enjoyable meal. Thanks for having 2 Turkey day meals too lol.....and of course for sharing your tips, ideas and time. xox 🥕🥣
Oh geez, I love your hat and sign. Too funny!!
😀😀😀
Thank you for caring!
Happy Thanksgiving!
You can always make an “Impossible Pie”. It will make a beautiful custard pie with its own crust! You can add coconut to it or other things to make it different. This pie uses a half of cup of flour or Bisquick baking mix. Might be cheaper than a pie requiring a pie crust.
That sounds like a great idea!!!
Such a nice thoughtful video. Dinner looked amazing 👏 😋
Thank you!
Maria, I don't know how I miss this storing Thanksgiving. You did a wonderful job. I just wanted to mention to you a cheap appetizer. Some of the stores have white button mushrooms on sale for 99 cents for a box. Just wipe them clean slice them Finley and put them on a plate, and sprinkle with garlic salt. It must be garlic salt, the salt kind of cooks the mushrooms. Let them sit out at room temp for a while. They are delicious.
WoW delicious thanksgiving food for under 20 dollars!
That's amazing! Well done!
😀😀
Thank you 🙏 for doing this videos! So, many are struggling!! God bless you 🙏
❤️🙏
Thanks for doing this to show you can still have a lovely meal in a budget! Very creative with a variety of dishes too, well done!!
Thank you for this video! I'm a college student doing Thanksgiving myself this year, trying to make it still festive
Maria
You did a great putting this meal together on a budget. I am nervous about the cost of Thanksgiving dinner this year. It is only me and my husband but we also share with neighbors who do not have family
roasted or grilled are my favorite ways to eat carrots and very basic with a little salt , butter and lots of black pepper and I like them browned/almost burnt. Ive never considered a vinaigrette which is crazy because I like a vinagrette on my green beans.. it looked like a well filled table for what you spent.. I agree the canberry is almost a must have and a can of jellied cranberries along side
Awesome ideas! Really enjoyed this holiday video. Not only is it budget friendly, but you made the simplest of dishes look gourmet
I was so happy to see this video!! Great job young lady!! Happy Thanksgiving!!🍂🍁🦃😋🎃
Thank you! You too!
We always go all out for Thanksgiving and Easter. We make soups and sandwiches for Xmas. Cuz we like to spend are time with the kids.
I got introduced to your channel a few months ago I just love it
😀😀
Happy Thanksgiving dinner

New subscriber to your channel and love how considerate you are towards others who may not have as much. Also, love the background music. Gives cozy vibes!
😀😀🎉 I’m so glad you are here!!! It’s important to give back 🙏❤️
I'm a fan , I'm so glad I found you , looking forward to all your videos
😀😀😀 I’m so glad you’re here!!!
Maria, your kindness is truly heartwarming! Your channel is so helpful! 💗💗💗
I love that this shows it can be done on a modest budget
Love Your hat 😆❤ Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you!
It looks lovely and can't beat the price either xx
😀😀
Since the turkey will be used for other meals I would say only count a fraction of its price in your meal plan. I do not serve appetizers so I would purchase a small package of dried Cranberries to add to homemade Applesauce.
I would have Sweet Potatos, can of Green Beans and Squash to fill out the meal.
I’m in Southern Ontario Canada so my prices are higher and Jiffy is not in my area. I love your ideas! Roasting vegetables makes them so much better, I personally think. I’m going to try to make the apple pie, we usually buy it.
We try to find a turkey on sale ... dinner, open face sandwiches, and turkey soup. Never waste any part of the turkey! I love your channel! I have gotten lots of great ideas ❤️ I appreciate all that you do for us your viewers
Got to have cranberry sauce 🎉
