Hello Dan, I have been breeding kribs since 1981. I started with pulchers, then taeniatus, Now i have a wild caught pair of Sacrimontis on their 6 th spawn. If you have any left keep them spawning because there has been an additional 2.5 million barrels of oil dumped into the nigher delta and its too toxic for people to go in to see if there are any left.
Dan this is awesome! So I see you were identifying with the male, who can no longer live the dream life as a slob.....sigh, poor bastard! Okay so first, we all or mostly all of us learn more while we laugh. You are really good at passing on information and making viewers smile or laugh. I love your channel, I need to pay better attention, but I am learning so much from you. Thank you!
I am seeing the exact behaviors. Initially I separated the two pairs but ended up putting them back together for several reasons. I also added some dither fish. The dominant pair are the only pair that shows pre spawn behavior. They initially sized up, and she spent a lot of time in, a hollow cichlid stone. I mentioned that to you a couple weeks ago, thinking for sure they would spawn. No. Then after a couple weeks a clay pot became prime real estate. They are in breeding dress, but not overly aggressive to tank mates, which includes: snails, Plecos, and Pearl Danios. Indeed, Pulchers are far more aggressive. Thanks for the update. I wondered if you'd had a spawn yet. About to order from Get Gills. .
So glad to see this!! I wanted a pair when you got them but my tank wasn't ready! I've wondered about them so glad to see it might happen !! I want a pair!! 😍
You have these beautiful loved up couple with other semi aggressive tank mates, like the angel fish and the roseline shark, I guess the corys will stick to their own side. I like their home ( coconut shell) real cozy. I know they will make good parents and guard them till they grow up. Hope to see some fry in the near future.
My Pelvicachromis pulcher pair has also given me fry. They are now at the point where I am thinking about setting up another tank and moving the pair because they are showing spawning behavior again. I am concerned that they will no longer see the fry as something to take care of and start chowing down on them.
Parker and Robert, So great to hear that they are spawning for you. Please do raise as many as you can and get them out to other breeders. These C.A.R.E.S. fish need our help. Also, I'm a bit jelli that you have them spawning. No luck here yet...hopefully soon!
Exciting times Dan, loved your voice over of their relationship, maybe he's unsure if he's quite ready for 40 kids just yet. His mum told him to see the rest of the tank before you settle down 😄 . Fingers crossed he does though Dan !
Thanks, Ozzy. Fingers are still crossed here, too. They have now abandoned both coconut huts and are digging under a big piece of driftwood. I might try some clay caves that someone is currently using to breed them and see if they work for me as well.
Dans Fish Dan, not currently. I used to keep Kribs and Albino Kribs back in the early 90’s. Fun fish. Recently I have been considering some Enigmatochromis lucanusi from a local breeder. 👍
Looks like the first stages of becoming a breeding pair. If they are like Pulchers then they might start to chase other fish away from their area when they are ready to breed.
Right now, the just keep moving from location to location checking out different spawning real estate. They are digging heavily around a different site now. Hope they settle on a spot soon.
Are you concerned about some of the other fish in the tank eating the fry? I decided to only have a few gold white clouds and a few neon tetras in my pelvicachromis pulcher tank because i was concerned about losing too many fry. I know the parents defend their young, but there are were way too many.
Parker, Yep! The fry won't last long in the big community tank. I plan to remove the majority of them once they are free swimming and raise them seperately.
I frequently see them in the $40-$60 dollar range for a pair. I would say if you can get them, do it. They are a CARES fish and could use some captive breeding.
Hahahahahaha I when I come home from work a or going out first thing hi g I do is check tanks...well after having different types of fish I'm more of a new world aggresive cihlids and predatory busters... I mean their personalities and intelligence how they interact not only among themselves (for the ones that at least "tolerate" the impulse to kill each other ) but with e as well ... I mean they don't come at me just for feeding time they eventually stay kind of watching me doing stuff they find interesting I guess.. some times the get pissed off with me and challenge me to a fight (the typical shake my head at you while showing you my huge mouth with teeeth or they come out like to play with me . And I mean it it's not for the food.... Actually they won't eat before 7pm. They will just state at the pellets and nothing...but a night they go nuts.... Anyways I guess that a few. Years ago I started to looking them anymore as fish .. but more as m room mates als and pals.. that's why I started talking at them on daily basis just likest lyou narrate their perspective in hahahaha loved this video!!!!
@@DansFish thanks haha that's the main reason for this hobby I guess...well at least for myself haha. AMAZING video I even added to my inspirational playlist haha. it is cool too realize that someone else in this world eventually interact with them in the same way...like talking to your human friends.. And eventually that's what what these guys are... Funny curiously intrractive and smart pals to hang around when things go well or when shtf ...Like normal regular human pals haha.. (Btw sorry for the thousands typos I'm at my days off until next Thursday so I went out with some human riends and got drunk af.. haha

thanks for sharing Dan..........
You got it, Glen. Thanks for watching!
Top notch Commentary Dan! Loved it!
Thanks! I was in a funny mood when I made that vid.
It’s awesome to watch and your love story narrative was the greatest!!! Made me smile and giggle.
Glad you got a laugh out of it!

I agree about the laugh=learning part for sure. Glad you like the channel!
Should have saved this for Valentine's day
Right!

Dan... that was some good role playing buddy.. lol. Cool video as always.
Thanks, Abu. Great to hear from you. I hope you and yours are well and had a wonderful holiday season.
Excellent choice of narrative talk . I want so bad .😆
So glad to see this!! I wanted a pair when you got them but my tank wasn't ready! I've wondered about them so glad to see it might happen !! I want a pair!! 😍
Mine still have not bred. But a customer who got some from me has them breeding, so hopefully more will be distributed by somebody soon!
Interesting Pelvicachris, very nice.
Thanks, Brantov. Glad you like them.

Finger's crossed for fry!
That’s funny my pair (Pelvicachromis pulcher) did very similar stuff and I got a few babies out of the dance.
Still waiting for the babies, but I'm patient.

L Parker my fish are in a 20gal with the fry’s last I know of 6 of the fry have grown up to adults
@@Rews-fish-shed That's awesome. I have 70+ fry right now in a 40b with the breeding pair.

It still sounds very promising if they're digging.. I think it's gonna happen !
I hope so! I just added a couple extra males to the tank to get the pair in deep bonding mode. Hopefully that does the trick!
Very nice! I'm currently breeding (re not cross breading) Pelvicachromis taeniatus “Nigerian Red” and Pelvicachromis kribensis “Taeniatus Bova”.
Those are both amazing species. I hope you are able to raise up lots of fry and distribute them...we need more of those cichlids in this hobby.
:)
@@DansFish Thank you. Doing my best. I'm breeding pea puffers also to help with the over-collecting issue and supply "clean" fish to the hobby.
Nice looking fish Dan, even though they are drama queens. LOL
Drama queens for sure!
Wish my plecos had red bellies like that. Nice looking fish 👍
TM, do you have Pelvicachromis too? If so, which species? I don't remember seeing them in your vids, but I might have forgotten.

The Enigmatochromis are unique fish. If you do get them, we expect vids! :)
That commentary!!
Dub, I'm going to start writing for soap operas.
Nice

I have watched this 5 times. Lol
Goldie is in love with you. You know that right? Angelfish, the puppy dogs of the fish world.
She's loved right back!

I thought if calling it "The Cichlid Bride" and doing a bunch of quotes from "The Princess Bride." Maybe another time.

What kind of rainbows are those ?
Those are Melanotaenia trifasciata.

I am in Denver and have a page for my fish room, search facebook, Cichlid Central.
I have a chance to get a pair. They were wild caught from Nigeria. Are they worth compared to other kribensis?

@@DansFish I did end up getting them yesterday. I saw a video on them too from Ted's fishroom about them being a CARES fish :D
Hope they do well for you. If you are able to spawn and distribute them, it would be good for the species.
