I really loved Shinobi as a kid because, in a time where contact = death in most arcade games, simply bumping into an enemy in Shinobi didn’t always mean they got you, and that was really cool.
I had the same issue when i was younger, until i found out the best bet is to strategically only upgrade your weapon to the knife--it's faster than the others. Once you defeat Mandarin, then upgrade fully to the gun.
that is perfect i didn't know you could beat mandara that easily if only i had that trick when this was in the arcades bravo my favorite arcade game and the best soundtrack in the arcades
As I see, Sunset Riders and Castlevania took some stuff from Shinobi. As a 90's kid, I'didn't like this game in arcades back in the day, but I admit it was good.

"No continues at the final stage" has got to the King Daddy of all arcade-game dick moves, so I never played this again after learning the hard way _Shinobi_ does that. Now that I know the ending was in no way worth "gitting gud" enough to see, I can finally move on in peace.

Unc left me this and his master system when he left for dessert storm in 90'. I still have PTSD from losing to mandara as an 8 year old so many times.

Love this game. One of my earlies arcade memories was watching older kids playing this for hours at a place I went to with my parents.
This and Street fighter were where we gathered as a kids. Putting in 10p to bagsy the next game 😊

It's one of my favorite classic arcade games, but I'm even more surprised that it only lasts 17 minutes total.
Let's be real when we played it in the 80s very few of us got anywhere near the last stage.
