These universal charger bricks tend to overheat. I don't recommend using it as the main charger, but only as a tool for technicians to test multiple devices.
On the off chance you will see this ... what about adapters for power pins. My grandson cut the cable on my 10 yr old Gateway. It's 19v 3.42A 65w charger. The side that plugged into the laptop. Acer still makes a replacement, but it has the skinny pin. I have the fatter yellow tip with the key fins on the tuning fork pin. Will an power pin converter work? What are your thoughts?
@@kaleidoscope8743 I'm not familiar with gateway as its a US brand, however if the voltage and amperage of the charger matches the laptop, it might just need a tip converter on the charger itself, I see most 19v laptops use a generic connector, perhaps yours does too? Or is it a weird propiertary connector?

I always find it dodgy that most company who did these universal chargers don't even list the manufacturing company. The only one that I trust is Innergie (made by Delta)
So far I have owned a Sumvision Universal brick for a while, it works for most of my laptop collection, however I did have to buy a bunch of extra tips for it
The 120W would mean it can power devices that require more wattage than standard powered laptops. Those max ratings however can sometimes be misleading, max could mean max at one time but not continuous wattage. The same is for normal Power Supply Units for desktop computers. This will vary across brands, so make sure you do your homework.
Its not like a simple lamp. You have electronic parts inside that can be damaged by the wrong Voltage and Amperage. Wattage is a product of voltage and Amperage. Voltage and Amperage (current) are VERY important to the health of the electronic parts inside the computer! If you underpower it won't work and could damage. If you overpower your computer you can seriously damage internal components. You'll noticed that AC Power adapters tell you the voltage and current (amps) frequency (hertz), but do not list the watts. Because voltage and current draw are vitally important. Be sure you use the same thing as your manufacturer's specifications for your ac power adapter. 1) Use your pc brand & model number when looking for a replacement adapter. OR If you have the adapter , use its serial number. 2) be sure to match Volts and Amps and hertz specified by the manufacturer. 3) get the same power pin receptacle and tuning pin diameters..(fitment). 4) and the correct wall cable making sure the connector at the adapter is correct and it has the 3-prong AC wall plug. Do not cheap out or substitute.
how voltage variation work on this? does the connectors have built-in voltage regulator or is it some feedback system that tells the charger that which connector is connected? and what is the base voltage of adapter?
@@BobRooney290 very likely its just trafo and buck converter/pwm, the voltage output can be varied by changing pot in the converter/pwm. just a guess tho.
Yes it can..the 19.5V power will go to electronic component that expect 16V. This component normally can tolerate small voltage variance, but in your case the variance is too big (21.8%)..19.5-16=3.5v...3.5/16 x 100 =21.8%
I would recommend buying a universal charger with a user settable voltage (like a slider switch) that way you have absolute confirmation that its the voltage you need

I often buy chargers on ebay as laptops are much cheaper when they don't have a charger.

Can this fry your system? I have a Targus universalone that is 19.5V MAX but my laptop is only 16V.
I would doubt that just the voltage would fry it, unless its a bad quality charger in the first place, and not about the voltage.
