This video is actually approximately 15-20 years old, it was just uploaded to RUclips 6 years ago, hence the video quality. Shmeichel literally means "smile". The song was meant to be an fun ode to the organisation Shmeichel which have a cheer up squad of volunteers visiting nursing homes and hospitals, Gertner is a volunteer there.
The cool thing is I've met him and he embodies this song. He's such a positive person both inside and out. He's an inspiration to me. Loved the reaction!
You’re smashing these reaction vids!!!! Keep It up!!! It’s the highlight of my day/ night!!! You’re to blame for me not being well rested as I stay up watching your vids 😉🤩
You nailed it again! This song brings me straight back to my childhood lol! By the way, this song came out in 2007, so I'm assuming the video is about the same age... Gotta agree with you about the dance moves lol but if this was really 2007, it was right in the beginning of the age of Jewish music videos, so there wasn't really much to compare to;)
He has a very nice and soft voice. The point of this video is basically that when you smile, your day is much better and it makes other people in a good mood. Thanks again for another awesome video amd reaction.
Thing about us is, kissing the mezuzah is so programmed in our minds, that we find ourselves just kissing the door frame even when the happens to not be one there, muscle memory basically...
Now that you got into the idea that you cover all your bases by showing all the different kinds of head Coverings, You absolutely need to react to Ari goldwag AM ECHAD...... I don't want to ruin it further since the whole idea is to see your reactions but that will be an incredible way to see this idea. For all those who know that song and agree please smash the thumbs up button
This was a cute song. My friend loves Shloime Gertner. She is from England. This is the first video of his that I had seen. I like his voice. Yes, he does wear a lot of different hats.
BTW Lipa Schmetzer composed this song for him for his debut album and then this video was shown live by a concert Lipa performed in Madssion Square Garden NYC in 2009
Also, regarding the mezuzah, we kiss our fingers that touched it. Generally, when encountering something sacred, we kiss it. Practically, because kissing a mezuzah on a door post is rather awkward, we touch it and kiss the part of our hand with which we touched the mezuzah
Yes, this is filmed in England - that is where he is from. Shmeichel means Smile. The song IS about being happy. Video taping in the sanctuary might be frowned on by some but its fine. The Mezuza on the doorway reminds us the G-d always watching over us. We kiss it upon entering or leaving. The song is mainly in Yiddish. The Shtreimel is worn by married Hassidic men on Shabbos or special occasions. During the week they wear a black fedora type hat - not the same Fedora as say Benny Friedman. Usually with the kipa (yarmulke) underneath. A few neighborhoods in London have large Jewish populations of all stripes of Judaism including a large Hassidic community. There are also Jewish communities in Manchester and elsewhere.
shtreimels are worn by married hassidim, on Shabbos and Holidays. hasidic version of the black hat. hassidim where a different kind of black hat during the week
shmiechel means smile in Yiddish. he is the only popular Jewish singer from England. the "chin touch" is kissing the mezuzah. as far as the videoing in sanctuary...its definitely a discussion to be had. yes theres a Jewish community in England.
I was so surprised that u were able to understand that it means smile it's in Yiddish it wasn't very straight out but lol this is a great and wild video and keep it up
When he touches the doorway, he's touching the Mezuza and then kisses his fingers... he's not touching his chin, although it's a quick touch so definitely appears that way.
It's a really interesting question you ask about filming in sacred spaces. Religious Jews (perhaps specifically of European descent) have a very relaxed attitude to the decorum in prayer buildings, in spite of what religious laws dictate. In practice they function as communal spaces of sorts outside of prayer times. But this has been the case for centuries. I think a new issue that has arisen with photography and video is the inappropriate use of sacred objects as props.
It's a song about smiling and that it makes a difference when u give a smile. Hes a singer from england. Also hes kissing the mezzuza at the doorway. Theres a large jewish community in england. Regarding recording in a house of prayer is ok depends for what.
Hey I would recommend you checking out Rachem by Yaakov Shwekey live It's kinda old and maybe poor quality, but he has a child soloist Mordechai Shapiro even before he was in the Miami boys choir
London has a about 5-10 k Jewish family mainly divided between hasidic living stamford hill (hackney/Tottenham) & the modern orthodox in goldes green, Hendon/edgware
England has approx. 300,000 Jews. Wirh the vast majority living in London and its suburbs. I highly recommend listening to Ohad Moskowitz. Here is link to a performance at a Jewish Wedding accompanied by the Kinderlach - a Jewish boy band from Israel: ruclips.net/video/BJkLqVDzuQI/видео.html I also suggest listening to Baruch Levine.
There's a RUclips video of a few Jewish guys singing the English part right in front of one of the royal guards (I think one of the royal guards) and it's a hilarious video because he was trying so hard to not laugh.
So, men always wear the kippah. The question is what they wear on top of it, and when. The shtreimel is only certain sects, and within those sects, it's only married men, and even that is only on sabbath and holidays and other special occasions. Others will wear the fedoras on top of the kippah all the time, or just for prayers. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Would this be the correct place to suggest another video to watch and comment on? I'd LOVE for you to watch Yanky Lemmer's "Broken Hearts", the English version of Israeli singer Hanan ben Ari's "Shvurei Lev". The video is fully in English, so you wouldnt struggle with the lyrics at all, and the reason I'm suggesting it is bc I'd love to hear what you think of yanky Lemmer's voice and performance. The video may make you cry! It's beautiful! Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/G8etukBdZ5E/видео.html . Looking forward.
Once again you amaze me with your perception. You picked up on the mezuza. A mezuza is placed on all the doorways in a jewish home or work place. Most people kiss it with their hand and bring it to their mouth, but when you do it swiftly it looks like he touched his chin. You picked up on the word shmaichal which as you said means smile in yiddish. Mr.Gertner is from England. You also mentioned about making videos in a synagogue a lot has to do with circumstances, but it may be a question for a rabbi. As I mentioned a mezuza is not only placed on a house of worship but on all jewish homes.
It is important that you understand one thing. You react to music that the majority of the public that listens to, has a kosher phone, no internet, really small, like in the past. That's why there isn't a large amount of views and likes, the people who listen to this music, hear it on a disc or onky disc, or in any form, just without internet. And one last thing, I am 24 years old and I remember this song since I was really little, so you will know that it has been around for many years, therefore the chirography is very old and not interesting. 🤍💙❤

It's amazing how much you remember from all the bits and pieces you've picked up. Keep it up! 👍
The cool thing is I've met him and he embodies this song. He's such a positive person both inside and out. He's an inspiration to me. Loved the reaction!

Lol. I can relate
This came out in 2007. Older then 6 years. And I LOVE this singer.
You nailed it again! This song brings me straight back to my childhood lol! By the way, this song came out in 2007, so I'm assuming the video is about the same age...

Just a small cute point…
He was singing next to the waterway
To say stop crying and shedding tears there’s enough water in the ocean….
You nailed it again!! Shmeichal means Smile.

+1 on that one
This was a cute song. My friend loves Shloime Gertner. She is from England. This is the first video of his that I had seen. I like his voice.
Yes, he does wear a lot of different hats.
What should I tell you you are just amazing at figuring out what the Jewish songs are talking about keep up the great work!!!
It's amazing how you pay attention to small details
You nailed it. You are getting the hang of things!
BTW Lipa Schmetzer composed this song for him for his debut album and then this video was shown live by a concert Lipa performed in Madssion Square Garden NYC in 2009

Portuguese pie....may you always smile!
You are spot on!

This is older than 6 years old, indeed. Gertner is a very quirky/cheesy type of singer but does have a very nice and sweet voice
shtreimels are worn by married hassidim, on Shabbos and Holidays. hasidic version of the black hat. hassidim where a different kind of black hat during the week
Shloime actually did a pretty accyrate impression of the queen's royal guard with one detail done wrong: he was smiling 😂
shmiechel means smile in Yiddish. he is the only popular Jewish singer from England. the "chin touch" is kissing the mezuzah.
as far as the videoing in sanctuary...its definitely a discussion to be had.

Shloimy Gertner is British. There’s a large Jewish community in London.

Amazing how quick he realized that this is England
i grew up ultra-orthodox and i have heard this song approximately 1 billion times
whoa throwback!
Bering weber also has a song it's called smile
I know and love this song for many years, but I've never seen the music video
England has approx. 300,000 Jews. Wirh the vast majority living in London and its suburbs.

I'm now picturing you transporting retirees around on a forklift
I love that you already know that Lipa is quirky :) :)
Alot of these apparently disconnected scenes become more understandable with knowing the lyrics
Still waiting on the Simcha Leiner video. He's got pipes, all right.
Ribono is a good song to choose.
London Manchester and Gateshead are the three main cities with Jewish communities
The hat can vary by sect, location, status, setting, occasion, and weather.
There's a RUclips video of a few Jewish guys singing the English part right in front of one of the royal guards (I think one of the royal guards) and it's a hilarious video because he was trying so hard to not laugh.
shtreilmal is the fur round hat worn by married chasidish men on sabbath and holidays. during the week they wear the other hat u c in video.
Not Jewish at all but still been loving these vids lol

And the kipa can take on many forms as well! As long as something is on the head.
Yes, There are large Jewish communities in England, mainly in London and Manchester

Highly recommended "הרבי שליט"א " absolute banger of a song
Hey, there's a mezuzah in the lintel, you came hard to see it but it's there... and... we don't kiss a lintel if there's no mezuzah there
Thank you!!

ShMichael means laugh
It means smile, not laugh. Laugh = Lach (in fact the gh used to be pronounced as a gutteral gh, similar to the yiddish ch sound. )
U should react to kinderlach.Another boys choir but not from the USA
Yiddishe Taavos
Song by Motti Ilowitz

Plz react to Hashem Melech 2.0 by Gad Elbaz and Nissim black
'Shmeichel' does mean 'smile' in Yiddish, but a couple of times it sounds like you're saying 'shmekel' which means penis and it's hilarious 😂
hahaha, ya definitely not what I was going for!
Whoa! Just gonna let it hang out like that, eh? 🙈
@@PortuguesePai Hi, kindly share your email. I want to discuss some business query.
You are totally allowed to film in a synagogue for a jewish music video, because jewish songs seeve one of the purposes that jewish prayer has
