    Remember LeBron's last game with Cleveland before he left to go to Miami. Cleveland loss to Boston in the ECF. A reporter asked Kevin Garnett what advice would he give LeBron about his upcoming free agency decision. Garnett said "Loyalty will kill you".

    The better comparison to Damian Lillard is Kevin Garnett, where it almost seemed like the FO took advantage of how their star could almost get a team to the playoffs by themselves and either not get the supporting cast they needed or let the 2nd best players walk as soon as it was time to pay them.

    There was plenty of times where Dirk could’ve bailed but he stayed true….and it finally worked out for him. Dirk is one of the only guys to stay loyal to a team like that and win without some sort of super team. The Mavs also stayed loyal to dirk Which is extremely rare for a franchise to do.

    It depends on the player's skill as well as overall luck. We could be saying the same thing about Giannis had he not won in 2021, we could be saying the same thing about Dirk had he not won in 2011. Sometimes you play with the hand that you're dealt. You may get lucky and come across a royal flush like Steph Curry or get a lousy hand of cards until you decide to try your luck at another table.
    I will never throw shade or any ridicule at anyone showing loyalty to the team they represent because it's too rare of a trait where honor is a dying concept. Though at the same time, if someone feels like they're not getting anywhere, why not try your luck elsewhere? Sometimes our fates are already determined before we make a choice.

    Man, Melo & Iverson weren't loyal to anybody but themselves. Both were liabilities on defense and were ballhogs who couldn't play along other great players. They were never championship caliber players. Melo wanted the money and A.I. wanted to shoot 40 times a game. Dame, on the other hand is being loyal.

    This is a tricky thing to judge since you can be like Giannis and say you won it the hard way. Jokic and the nuggets home grown talent. Obviously what KD did is the worst joining a 73 win team that beat him but you can flip this narrative in anyway you wish.

    11:25 $60M per. That’s where big dog… he’s not worth that. No accolades justify the contract. Giannis is worth that, Bron, Wardell, not many guys are worth $50M+ per. That’s the best of the best.

    If being a pro athlete is a job, then what’s the point in being loyal to a place that isn’t good for you? Dame is one of my all time favorite players, but he’s almost 32 and Portland isn’t competing for a title anytime soon. Apparently Portland’s supposed to be a great place to live, but he can play for another team and rent a condo during the season while keeping a house in Portland, right?

    your life, your career, your legacy, your choice. sports media really did a number on the general public getting them to think these athletes treat their jobs any differently than the rest of us do with our 9-5's. only real difference is we get fired while athletes get uprooted and sent wherever their boss decides. Great analysis as always JC

    I wouldn't say waste of their prime bc we still got a chance to see how great these players really were. For AI i think his basketball story was perfect as far as his prime goes, yes a championship would've definitely capped his career off the right way but man the dude went to the finals and fought his ass off against that laker juggernaut AI really gave it everything he had. I think things could've been different for carmelo bc he had a chance to go play for Chicago when they were championship built just needed that superstar instead carmelo chose to take the money but we all know dam well that new york team ain't stand a chance. Lillard actually has had teams good enough to win it all they just can't get ova the hump

    allen iversons game was not conducive to winning championships. he is like westbrook in that he is a great individual talent but he would have trouble playing with another top talent who could do his thing. it was more of a case where the sixers were the only ones who were willing to put up with his unprofessional ways and his style of play.

    Teams have no loyalty so should players. We have seen organizations do what they want and it be called the business of whatever sport their in. Now players have the power that the have it looks crazy to some. I look at both as business. I always look at the Isaiah Thomas situation with the Celtics as my proof about things just being business.

  • @leocriss6354

    If you take money over signing with another team, especially when the other team is offering you less money to play with a better team, you didn’t stay because you were “loyal”. You took the money. Carmelo and Dame took the money, it’s cool, but let’s not start acting like these guys want to be here because they love the city.

    I definitely don’t want to hear about melo, he chose the knicks they build a solid team around him and he couldn’t get it done. He was then offered a contract from the bulls, the bulls at this time was a force if he’d signed with them he’d definitely be champion. D.rose j. Butler, j. Noah the bench mob they was loaded. He choose the bag instead

    Should players be allowed to just up and request trades? Or should they be held to their contracts more often?

      They should almost never be allowed to do that. There are so many reasons to not do it, not the least of which bc it just makes the whole era look bad.

    • @TTJJCC
      @TTJJCC 2 года назад +1

      They've always been allowed to request trades, but the owners/teams just do not have any backbone. All trade request don't have to be met or even acknowledged. Now, I do agree that a lot of times, a player going public with a trade demand can appear to be classless.

    • @akaspon1
      @akaspon1 2 года назад +1

      They should be held to their contracts. Because these players are being drafted and brought into the NBA to make money and win in their sport. The reality is that the "win" is not guaranteed for any player. Only 1 team will win every year. So if players are just there to chase a championship, then what is the incentive to even play for the other 29 teams? Not every great player is going to win and that should be expected. I see people saying _________ deserves a ring. Why? Over _________ and __________? When does that logic end before it just destroys franchises?

    • @ssor2816
      @ssor2816 2 года назад +2

      They should at least fulfill half of their contract duties before asking for a trade and if a player throws a tantrum and not play or act injured even if the team doctors stated otherwise then that player should not receive any pay plus a fine.
      The top players have to much power in their hands and due to this those who are not as renowned will be affected once a new CBA is done.

    • @TheyCallMeSledge
      @TheyCallMeSledge 2 года назад +2

      Personally I would prefer to honor my contract and play it to the fullest. Then when my contract year is up and I'm not seeing any form of improvement within my team, I will definitely shop around when free agency comes.

  • @ShaunTheNavigator

    I respect Dame for wanting to be loyal to the team that drafted him. I get it. Especially being a fellow Cancerian. We're BIG on loyalty.
    At the same time, though. That loyalty needs to be matched by the home squad. Are they giving you players that you can build with to contend for a championship with? Or are you stuck in perpetual mediocrity, since the team has you in a Superman, you can do it all to get us over the hump scenario?
    My perspective? If you team is putting you in a position to contend every year - stay. If not? Go somewhere that's going to put you may not be "the man," anymore. I'd rather be a second banana or a role player on a championship team, than "the man" on a team that couldn't get out of their own way.
